ESCAPE Travel App interface design 6 weeks project
IDEATION & MOTIVATION|
IDEATION Currently, people need to use numerous apps and websites to devise their travel plan. The messy process of planning causes a significant complication in the process and the overall user experience. Also, since mobile devices are adopted universally and rapidly, the youth travelers prefer to accessing information through mobile devices to searching on PC or other unportable devices while they are in travel. The youth travelers need a way to easily devise a plan because they want to enjoy the freedom of the trip, even before the trip. We believe that by developing trip management app EXIT for youth travelers. We will simplify the way of planning for youth traveler and save time for them.

SCENARIO | HANDS & MISS
Messy Process Part of Apps which need to be used in the whole travel process. People need to switch apps again and again during the trip. I want to make people’s trip easier and more free. Without messy process, people will enjoy the trip more.
Persona Aileen Klein is a 23-year-old College student. She gaped one year to travel around the United State and countries in the South America. She majors in Sociology and Spanish. She also has one part-time job in the college which is around 15 hours a week. With the increase of the course workload, she feels pressure to spend time in traveling around. Country: Isreal Occupation: Student Age: 23 Gender: female
ANALYSIS| BASED ON RESEARCH
Based on research, because of the popularity of mobile phone nowadays, people prefer to carry their phone and do research on their phone while they are on travel. 54.5% users prefer to use mobile phone to access travel information, 65% users devise their travel plan with APP on
tablet or mobile device. Meanwhile, only 14.2% users travel with advise from travel agent. Therefore, more and more people prefer to travel with mobile device instead of laptop which takes up a lot of space. Also, people generally rely on effective way to design their trip.

Color of yellow means these place can be planed properly in one day with estimate time. The places with grey background color are candidate sights which users plan to go if they have enough time that day; if these places can not be visited that day, the system will automaticly move them to the next day.

SAVVY Hand Mixer 8 week project
RESEARCH| SCENARIO
CHALLENGE
• Hard to clear the inside part of the whisks • Whisks takes a lot of space for storage • The body part of hand mixer is not washable.

Harry Potter Time-Turner Pendant Necklace
IDEATION
Inspired from Harry Potter Time-Turner Pendant Necklace and umbrella. The Necklace inspired me in a way of saving space by rotating the ring of the nacklace. The space it costs reduces from a sphere to a circle. The umbrella inspired me in similar area but in another way.

FINAL CONCEPT | TWO TYPES OF WHISKS
Press the little botton in the middle
• The whisk is designed for incorporating air into a light mixture quickly. It works very well for whipped cream and meringue. • When the whisk isn’t in use, it keeps in a column shape. It occupies less storage space.
Rotate inside part of the whisk
• When the whisk is in use. The hollow whisk increases contect time of food and air. • These beaters are designed in flat shape when they are not in use so that they cut cleanly through cookie dough, cake mixes, and any other food with cleaning mat.

MOTIVATION | WATER INK
WATER-INK PAINTING with VR? The basic idea of this project is to convert a Chinese traditional water-ink painting style animation into a Virtual Reality experience. The problem is obvious, all the techniques we know about water-ink painting can only be utilized in a 2d setting, how can we apply them in a 3d space?
CORE TECH | CONVERTOR AND DESIGN CONVERTOR The engineers in our team found several papers in non-photorealistic rendering that we think maybe helpful for our project. And later, we narrowed it down to one paper published by Korea University and decided to use the mathematic model described in that paper to implement our convertor. The aim of the convertor is to render 3d models into a water-ink(Su-Muk) painting style with users’ guide. We implemented our convertor with python. The idea is to simulate the behavior of water-ink directly on 3d models so that after our simulation, ink and water will be spread over the surface appropriately. We treat each vertex as a water-tower that contains certain amount of ink and water. More ink will reduce the brightness, increase the opacity, and the vice versa. During the simulation, the water will carry the ink, flowing from one vertex to another through the edge connecting them. The specific Ink-Water behavior model is based upon a cellular automaton which consists of an infinite amount of cells, each belongs to a finite number of states. In the cellular automaton, every cell has the same rule of updating based on values of its neighborhood. [1]. The picture below(from the paper), shows the 3d simulation model.

Final video is posted on youtube as a 360 video. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu2FcnPI4BY
After using Oculus Rift for this project in almost half semester, I find that there are so many problems need to be improved with Oculus Rift VR goggle. Finally, it becomes my senior thesis which is still in process.
