VOTE GREATOREX FOR YOUR INDEPENDENT VOICE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Dear Neighbour, Back in May 2011 I was both privileged and very proud to be elected to serve you as your Bransty District Councillor. Here 4 years on I am again putting myself forward and seeking your support as an Independent candidate. Having grown up in a large traditional family and in a working class neighbourhood I have first-hand experience of the many barriers to educational attainment and the benefits afforded by overcoming these to achieve a career as a senior nuclear technologist. Imbued with strong
social values of citizenship, I have for a number of years campaigned and promoted social and economic policies here in Copeland and nationally, based on justice and fairness in order that communities can thrive and families have, like my own, opportunities to prosper.
By fostering an inclusive approach and collective responsibility for making our neighbourhoods attractive and safe places to live, I will aim to create a community where we welcome and support one another, irrespective of our circumstances and backgrounds.
The global financial and banking crash of 2008 has though resulted in unprecedented conditions, with cuts in public spending and welfare reform which threaten the very social fabric of our communities. The challenges we face are enormous and given the opportunity to represent your interests I will work tirelessly with local partners to improve the outlook and well-being of every individual who lives and works in Whitehaven and more widely across Copeland.
Having worked in Copeland for over 15 years, I along with my partner, a teacher in a state funded secondary school, and our two young children, are firmly established in the area. Over this time we have formed many friendships and become closely acquainted with many of the areas socio-economic challenges and the considerable opportunities for economic development. The Bransty seat represents a wonderful opportunity to again actively serve a community within an area that has become my adopted home.
I will continue to combine my business and local authority experience to identify innovative approaches to help achieve the necessary budget cuts whilst maintaining the capacity to deliver essential public services, a competitive economy and healthy communities. Capitalising on our industrial advantages here in Copeland, I will press the case for investment in Whitehaven and elsewhere locally to create high value jobs and encourage businesses to act responsibly by stepping up to play a full part in transforming the prospects for our area. Importantly, I will provide leadership to activities that ensure we all involved in and can share in the benefits of wealth creation.
In 2011 I endeavoured to speak with every resident on their doorstep, overturned a large opposition majority vote and promised not be a stranger in the intervening period. If entrusted and again elected, I will renew this promise to do the same. Should this happen, please be assured I am committed to again represent your interests to the very best of my ability. With very best wishes.
