IN THE FIRST SEM, IMPORTANCE WAS GIVEN TO DESIGNING THE VERY FUNDAMENTAL UNIT OF SOCIETY, A HOUSE. THE LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY INCREASED FROM AN INDIVITUAL DESIGN UNIT TO A FAMILY UNIT. SEVERAL CASE STUDIES AND SITE VISITS WERE DONE TO UNDERSTAND THE PATTERN OF LIFE. SECOND SEM WAS PROGRAMMED TO DESIGN FOR MASS. THE DESIGN THAT CATERS TO A SOCIETY RATHER THAN A FAMILY. TO UNDERSTAND THE SOCIAL STRATA VISIT WAS DONE TO THE WORLD HERITAGE SITE, PRAGPUR AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE SETTLEMENT WAS DONE. FURTHER A CULTURAL CENTRE FOR THE SAME VILLAGE WAS GIVEN AS THE DESIGN PROBLEM. DESIGNING AN INSTITUTIONAL BUILDING WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE SEMESTER ACCORDING TO WHICH A PLAYSCHOOL WAS DESIGNED IN NEW DELHI.

THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A CULTURAL CENTRE, MUCH NEEDED FOR THE HERITAGE VILLAGE OF PRAGPUR. THE SITE HAD A LEVEL DIFFERENCE OF 15M WHICH WAS TACKLED BY GOING ALONG WITH THE CONTOURS AND MINIMAL CONSTRUCTION. VERNACULAR CONSTRUCTION WITH MUD WALLS AND BAMBOO WAS ADOPTED. THE ROOF WAS DESIGNED BY A COMPOSITE MATERIAL OF MUD WITH BAMBOO REINFORCEMENT. THE ORGANIC FORM OF THE ROOF CLOSELY RESEMBLES THE ORGANIC FABRIC OF THE SETTLEMENT.

THE DESIGN PROBLEM WAS A SHORT TERM PROJECT GIVEN TO UNDERSTAND THE SPACES AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WHICH EACH OTHER. ADJASCENCY DIAGRAMS, CIRCULATION SYSTEMS , SUN PATH DIAGRAMS ETC WERE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL WHICH FORM THE VERY FUNDAMENTAL PRE-REQUISITE FOR DESIGNING.

THE DESIGN PROBLEM WAS A REAL TIME PROJECT AT FARIDABAD. THE TASK WAS TO PROVIDE THE MAXIMUM USABLE SPACE IN THE GIVEN AREA. COURTYARD SYSTEM WAS USED TO CREATE OPTIMUM USABLE SPACE WITHOUT HINDERING THE PROXIMITY AND INDIVITUALITY OF EACH SPACE PROVIDED. EACH FLOOR HAS 2 BEDROOMS AND GYM AT THE BASEMENT. THE CONCEPT WAS CREATE A HEALTHY LIVING ENVIRONMENT BY INCREASING THE INTERACTION FOR WHICH MORE SEMI PRIVATE SPACES WERE DESIGNED.

PLAYSCHOOL, NFC THE MAIN CHALENGE WAS TO CREATE AN ENVRONMENT THAT IS PLEASING FOR THE CHILDREN. HENCE STUDY WAS DONE TO UNDERSTAND THEIR INTERESTS AND ATTRACTIONS. EXPLOITING THEIR QUEST FOR ADVENTURE A DESIGN WHICH IS THEME ORIENTED AND MORE ORGANIC WAS PROPOSED. THE SENSE OF AMBIGUITY IN THE DESIGN WILL KEEP THE KIDS OCCUPIED THROUGHOUT. PRAGPUR IS A WORLD HERITAGE VILLAGE IN H.P. A WEEK LONG STUDY TOUR WAS CONDUCTED TO STUDY AND DOCUMENT THE SETTLEMENT AND ITS BUILDING TYPOLOGY. THE STUDY WAS PUBLISHED BY THE COLLEGE IN 2007.

IN THE FIRST SEM INTRODUCTION TO BYE LAWS WAS GIVEN. FORM DEVELOPMENT W.R.T BYE LAWS WAS DISCUSSED BY A DESIGN PROJECT TO DESIGN AN OFFICE BUILDING IN GANDHINAGAR. IT WAS MORE OF A FORM FINDING EXERCISE THAN A COMPLETE DESIGN PROBLEM. LATER MORE DETAILED AND COMPLEX DESIGN STRATEGIES WERE DISCUSSED AND A NEW PROJECT TO REDESIGN THE AUDITORIUM OF THE COLLEGE WAS GIVEN. THIS WAS TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF PROJECT SPECIFIC DESIGN SOLUTIONS. SECOND SEMESTER HAD AN INTRODUCTION TO PARAMETRIC DESIGNING AND FURTHER AN ICONIC STADIUM DESIGN PROJECT . THE TEMPLE RUINS OF KHAJURAHO WAS VISITED AND THE NEARBY SETTLEMENT CALLED RAJNAGAR WAS STUDIED AND DOCUMENTED IN DETAIL FOR THE INTACH. LATER FINAL DESIGN PROBLEM WAS FORMULATED IN RAJNAGAR ITSELF FROM THE STUDIES DONE.

THE PROJECT WAS PRIMARLY A FORM FINDING EXERCISE TAKING IN ASPECTS OF BYE-LAWS. A DETAILED STUDY OF BYE LAWS WAS DONE AND FURTHER CALCULATIONS. THE FORM OF THE BUILDING MIMICS A CREEPER THAT SPINES AROUND THE HOST. THE BUILDING HAS TWO LIFT CORES AND THE STRUCTURE IS SUPPROTED BY SHEAR WALLS AND STEEL TRUSS.

THE CHALLENGE WAS TO REDESIGN THE AUDITORIUM WHICH WAS ONCE THE ICON OF MODERNIST MOVEMENT. THEREFORE THE DESIGN SOLUTION WHICH IS TO BE PROPOSED HAD TO BE JUSTIFIED IN ALL RESPECTS. APART FROM THAT THE LIMITED OPEN AREA IN THE COLLEGE CAMPUS WAS ALSO A CONCERN. A DESIGN SOLUTION WAS FORMULATED BY RETAINING THE FORM AND SINKING THE EXISTING AUDITORIUM AND THUS INCREASING THE OPEN AREA . THIS WAS A BETTER SOLUTION COMPARED TO CREATING ONE MORE STRUCTURE THAT MAY DECREASE THE EXISTING GREEN.
PARAMETRIC DESIGN EXERCISE
A TWO WEEK PROGRAMME IN PARAMETRIC DESIGNING WAS DISCUSSED ON THE PROJECT TO DESIGN AN ICONIC BUILDING IN DELHI PRIOR TO COMMON WEALTH GAMES.THE FORM OF THE FOOTBALL STADIUM IS INSPIRED FROM A GAME PLAYED DURING JANMASHTAMI DAY. THE STRUCTURE FORMED IS THE MOST SUCCESFULL AND STABLE PATTERN. THE SAME FABRIC IS USED IN THE EXTERNAL FORM OF THE STADIUM.
sTUDIO RAJNAGAR SETTLEMENT STUDY FOR INTACH (GRP OF 3) RAJNAGAR THE ROYAL CITY OF CHOLA KINGS IS A SMALL SETTLEMENT WITH A POPULATION OF 10000. THE SETTLEMENT WAS STUDIED AND DOCUMENTED FOR INTACH. THE SETTLEMENT IS A SEMI URBAN RURAL SETTLEMENT GROWN AXAIALLY BETWEEN A HILL AND JLSENA LAKE. THE OLD FORT OF THE KINGS ACT ASD THE NODAL POINT OF THE SETTLEMENTS DEVELOPMENT. THE FABRIC OF THE SETTLEMENT CLOSELY RESEMBLES A CENTRAL SPINE FROM WHICH BRANCHES ARE FORMED. THE STATISTICS REGARDING THE SOCIAL STATUS WERE TAKEN AND A DETAILED STUDY AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE PLACE WAS DONE. THE COMPILATION IS PUBLISHED BY THE COLLEGE.

THE SITE FOR THE PROJECT WAS IN RAJNAGAR. THE CONTOURED SITE WAS FACING A LAKE ON THE NORTH SIDE. THIS POTENTIAL WAS USED TO THE MAXIMUM BY OPENING THE DESIGN TOWARDS THE LAKE. THE AXIAL DESIGN WAS FLANGED WITH TWO WINGS. THE DESIGN IS SPREAD AT THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS AND COURTYARDS ARE USED TO CREATE MORE FOCUS POINTS. THE DESIGN ACCOMMODATES 40 ROOMS, AN AYURVEDIC CENTRE, TREATMENT ROOMS, LIBRARY AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT AND STAFF QUARTERS.
GOVT HOUSING AT RAVINDRA NAGAR
THE SITE WAS FACING THE LODHI GARDENS AND HAD A STRONG CONTEXT.THE PROGRAM INCLUDED 200 UNITS IN 4 TYPES OF CLUSTER. THE DESIGN WAS A PERMUTATION COMBINATION OF THE DIFFERENT CHOICES IN A PARTICULAR MANNER CREATING DESIRABLE VOIDS AND TERRACES TO EACH UNIT. HENCE EACH FLOOR PLATE IS DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER CREATING 43 DIFFERENT UNIT PLANS.

HUDCO TROPHY 2009 (COORDINATED WITH TEAM OF 10) PANEL 09 SHORTLISTED AMONG THE TOP 10 ENTRIES THE BRIEF WAS TO STUDY , ANALYSE AND INTERVENE ANY COMMERCIAL STRECH IN INDIA.THE SITE WAS IN NIZAMUDDIN BASTI INCLUDING THE DARGAH. INTERVENTINO GIVING PRIORITY TO CONSERVATION WAS DONE IN THE SITE.
HUDCO TROPHY 2008 (TEAM OF 10) THE PROJECT WAS TO REDEVELOP A SLUM AND INCREASE ITS LIVING STANDARDS. THE LOW COST HOUSING PROJECT WAS PROPOSED IN THE SLUMS OF OKHLA INDUSTRIAL ESTATE. THE NUMEROUS WASTE CONTAINER IN THE NEARBY CONTAINER YARD WAS PUT TO USE IN MAKING THE HOUSING UNITS. THE HOUSING CLUSTER IS THE COMPACT ARRANGEMENT OF CONTAINERS WITH A COURTYARD SYSTEM.

ANNUAL NASA DESIGN COMPETITION (ANDC) 2008ENTRY SHORTLISTED AMONG THE TOP 20 DESIGNS THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A VENDOR MARKET THAT CATERS TO THE COMMON MAN RATHER THAN THE UPPER STRATA OF THE SOCIETY. THE PROJECT HAD TO BE OF SIMILAR STANDARDS OF THAT OF BRANDED RETAIL OUTLETS, BUT AFFORDABLE FOR THE PUBLIC. THE SITE WAS CHOSEN CLOSE TO THE SLUMS OF TAIMOOR NAGAR. THE PROPOSAL WAS TO REDEVELOP THE SLUM WITH THE COMMUNITY MARKET ACTING AS A MULTI FUNCTIONAL INCOME GENERATOR.THE MARKETY ACTING AS A DAILY MARKET AS WELL AS A SPACE FOR THE WOMEN TO DO HANDICRAFTS, EXHIBITION SPACE, COMMUNITY CENTRE… THE MARKET WAS PROPOSED OVER A NARROW TRIBUTORY OF YAMUNA WHICH WAS DUMPED WITH MUNICIPAL WASTE. A WATER TREATMENT PLANT WAS ALSO PROPOSED .THE MARKET IS DESIGNED WITH SEPARATE LEVELS CATERING TO THE CUSTOMER AND VENDOR.

TRANSPARENCE 2008-09 DEVELOPMENT SPECIAL JURY RECOGNITION AWARD THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN A MEDIA CENTRE THAT WILL BE ICONIC FOR THE FUTURE INDIA,WHICH WILL MAP INDIA AMONG THE ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS. THE SKY SCRAPER WAS SITED IN COCHIN BECAUSE OF ITS TOURIST VALUE AND THE POTENTIAL SCENIC BEAUTY. THE DESIGN TO REPRESENT FUTURE INDIA UNFETTERED BY THE PAST HAD TO HAVE AN ARCHITECTURAL WONDER WHICH WILL PROCLAIM THE DEVELOPING INDIA, READY TO ESTABLISH ITSELF AS A WORLD POWER. THE FORM REPRESENTS THE GROWING INDIA UNDISTURBED BY THE STUMBLEBLOCKS. THE 14 FLOORED SKYSCRAPER WILL HAVE WATCH TOWERS, MEDIA TOWER, EXHIBITION SPACE, HOTEL,ENTERTAINMENT ZONE.. THE BUILT EXTENDS ITSELF INTO THE SEA WERE AN UNDERWATER MUSEUM IS DESIGNED.

FLOOR PLATES FRAME THE FORM IS DESIGNED USING PARAMETERS ON A SPLINE WHICH IS COMPUTER GENERATED. THE FORM IS MADE USING STEEL AND GLASS. THE PROCESS OF RATIONALISING THE FRAMEWORK IS DONE BY GIVING LUMPS TO THE EVOLVED STRUCTURE. THE STEEL FRAMING WILL BE LED LIT SO THAT AT NIGHT THE FRAME STANDS OUT. MOREOVER THE GLASS FRAMES ARE LOVABLE IN ONE DIMENSION BY THE MECHANICALLY DRIVEN FRAMES. FACILITIES LIKE METRO, CABLE CARS AND CRUISE DOCK ARE PROPOSED.

SITE WASC HOSEN IN I.P ESTATE WERE THE EXISTING BUS TERMINAL IS REDESIGNED TO A TRANSMIT STATION BETWEEN DELHI METRO AND INTERSTATE BUS TERMINAL. THE DESIGN IS A CONFLICT BETWEEN FLOW AND CONTROLLED FLOW WHICH IS REPRESENTED BY TWO DIFFERENT DESIGN APPROACHES MERGED IN THE SAME BUILT. SHOPPING COMPLEX, TRANSPORT MUSEUM.. ARE INCORPORATED IN THE DESIGN.

THE STATION IS PROVIDED WITH SEPARATE ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TERMINALS CATERING TO AROUND 80 BUSES AT A TIME. DIRECT CONNECTIVITY FROM THE METRO THROUGH HORIZONTAL ESCALATORS AT A HIGHER LEVEL MAKES SURE OF EASY PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT. THE ROOF STRUCTURE IS DYNAMIC REPRESENTING THE FLOW. THE MOVEMENT IS ACHIEVED BY A FRAME STRUCTURE MADE USING BALL JOINTS. THE HYDRUALIC LIFT PRINCIPLE IS USED TO GENERATE THIS MOVEMENT WITHOUT LOOSING ENERGY.

CENTRAL GLASS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION -09. JURY –TOYO ITO THE SITE WAS CITY OF CALICUT ,KERALA. TO SOLVE THE ISSUES OF COMMUNITY SPACES IN THE CITY TRAVELLING COMMUNITY MODULES ARE PROPOSED.THEY FORM A TRANSPORT NETWORK THROUT THE CITY LINKING ALL IMPORTANT DOMAINS. AT PEAK TIME ALL THESE MODULES COME TOGETHER AT THREE DIFFERENT EXISTING OPEN SPACES IN THE CITY TO FORM A MULTI PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTRE.
