THE BRAND
What is NIRMA ? Nirma University (NU) is a private university in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, India. Karsanbhai K. Patel is the founder chairman of the Nirma Group and the president of Nirma University. Dr. Patel established the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) in 1994 with a view to promote and support higher education in India. In 1995, Nirma Institute of Technology started in a rented premise with five undergraduate engineering programmes affiliated to Gujarat University. In 1996 the institute started functioning in new campus. Thereafter, in 1996, the Institute of Management was established. In 1997, the Institute of Diploma was established to offer multidisciplinary diploma programmes in Engineering. Subsequently, the university established the Institute of Pharmacy in
2003, the Institute of Science in 2004, the Institute of Law in 2007 and the Institute of Architecture in 2014. And recently, in 2017 Department of Design was added to the university. The Motto of the University has been taken from Brhadaranyaka Upanishad - I.III.28. The second line of the Pavamana Mantra explains how to lead the life towards knowledge from ignorance, which assists the mind in understanding the reality. As the only remedy from darkness is light, the only remedy from ignorance is knowledge. Hence Nirma University emphasizes the all-round development of its students. The university aims at producing not only good professionals but also good and worthy citizens of a great country, aiding in its overall progress and development.
Purpose of Branding Branding is important because not only is it what makes a memorable impression on your audience but it allows them to understand what to expect from your company. Effective branding capturesand conveys an organization’s core identity so that it is meaningful and memorable to the outside world. Nirma prides on its vision of shaping a better future for mankind by developing effective and socially responsible individuals and organizations. Given this strong foundation, we wish to corporate different aspects of University to create a brand that not only reflects its values but is as relatable to the potential clientale or prospective students as it is to the existing community of Nirma.Â
Purpose of the Manual The main purpose of this manual is to act as a comprehensive guide for all faculty, students, staff and others involved in developing communications which would include : - Logo use - Colour use - Font use - Photography style - Print and digital media This is to help them use the logo and the identity of Nirma to the best of its use without distorting the image and maintaining a certain consistency which would also act as an unifying tool.

- Using Nirma's graphic identifiers facilitates an immediate association with the Nirma University and strengthens your material.
- Don’t alter the logo or the type face. No tweaking of any sorts as it loses its purpose and dilutes the overall brand.

Institute Of Technology, Nirma University’s (ITNU) offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in branches of engineering in addition to an MCA programme. UG program consists eight branches viz. Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) offers a five-year integrated BBA-MBA, a two-year residential MBA programme, an MBA in family business and entrepreneurship, and a doctoral programme in management, as well as an executive diploma programme, in-house training programmes, management development programmes and consulting services.

Institute of Science, Nirma University (ISNU) offers a Master of Science programme in selected areas of biological sciences and provides broad training encompassing science, business, and ethics to students enabling them to explore wide career opportunities.
Institute of Pharmacy offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in addition to doctoral programme in branches of pharmaceutical sciences.

9. Center for Entrepreneurship: A concept that has been taken up the university to ignite the hidden potential for entrepreneurial development in the students. Workshops are held year-round consisting of speaker sessions, innovative games, competitions to enhance their competitive game and also train them by providing necessary resources for networking, consultancy and seed-funding.

Logo Usage For use by all offices, departments and institutes. For Nirma University’s signage, marketing, communications, licensing, campaign efforts, the logo will be used as the official and primary identifier.

Clear Space The “U” height in “University” is the minimum clear space to be observed around the logo. These size requirements should be followed for all logo applications.
Minimum Size The preferred minimum size for the logo in print is 1.5� wide in print and 144 pixels for digital use. The logo should always be scaled proportionally width/height.
Improper Usage The Nirma University logo should not be modified or altered in any manner.
Colour Palette Nirma University’s identity system is also unified by a consistent colour palette . This colour palette applies to all icons of the identity system. The colour palette is divided into two categories, primary and secondary. The primary colour the that of the university. The secondary palette represents each of the institutes. The colour breakdowns below are intended to inform print, web design, and production. CMYK guidelines are for printing the products. RGB and HEX guidelines are for the digital products.

Typography The typeface “Cardo” has been selected to represent Nirma University’s identity. This typeface is to be used for all print and digital products.
Fallback Font If the typeface “Cardo” is not available, the recommended font is “EB Garamond”.
Photography Usage
We preserve the important events and people in our lives. Photography are our personal stories. Photography should exhibit discipline within the university’s values. There can be different styles and varieties of photography. Black & white images can be used when appropriate, but colourful images are most preferable. Photography is an important tool for the university. It helps in telling the Nirma story. There are two broad categories to the photography, people and places. Photography of people should covey the multi cultural campus and the energy of the students, which makes Nirma unique, while the images of the places in the campus, the buildings should convey the disciplined and strength of our campus.
Photography should always be natural. It should have a professional sense, high resolution quality. When using stock images and directing photographers don’t have overly scripted or posed shots in artificial setups. The photographs should not be overly or underly exposed. They should not use candid images. Photo giving a negative impact, over exaggerated or metaphorical meaning should be avoided. The photos should be atlas have 300 dpi ( resolution ). Social media is a huge platform for Nirma University. Regular basis update with unique events and distinct images is important for the space. THE VOICE
Brand Voice How a brand addresses it's audience is just as important as what it has to say. To capture the audeince's attention the voice should be in first person while talking about the university. For eg. Incorrect: Nirma University emphasizes the all-round development of its students correct: We ephasize the all round development of our students. Additionally, audiences should be addressed in the second person (you) to emphasize a personal and accessible tone. Incorrect: The students will be taught critical thinking and design process.
Correct: You will be taught critical thinking and design process. Tense: A present continuous tone is generally preffered since it invokes a sense of inclusivity. For eg. Incorrect: We develop responsible graduates towards society with proven expertise. Correct: We are developing responsible graduates towards society with proven expertise.
Writing Styles A reliable written style is important for University’s image.

Building Names : Capitalize the proper names of blocks or building, including the word “building” or “block” if it is a part of the proper name. Think thrice before posting as everything is public; privacy doesn’t exist in the world of social media.
Do not use confidential / controversial / private information about Nirma University, students, employees, alumni, etc on social media.
All the policies should be followed. Accuracy should be maintained. Get the caption or the content proof read to avoid grammatical and spelling mistakes. Refer to the appropriate usage of logo, seal, and typeface. Remember the audience : The social media platform has a wide spread reach. It can easily be seen by public at large. Consider this before posting an image or writing a content to avoid violence or indisciplined behaviour. Assure that the site is technically secured and safe. Protect your identity and keep in mind University’s image.
Do not collect sensitive information that can be missed by any others such as, phone numbers, student ID, payment information, etc via social media. Follow all the necessary policies and regulations that may protect the confidential information and important data.

- Any communication pieces published relating to activities in or including Nirma University require the use of the Nirma logo. - Any brochures, pamphlets, booklets published must have the University logo on the front and back page without any distortion. - The University logo must be prominently displayed on all displays, flyers, signage, posters, invitations etc.
Official Stationary Letterhead The official letterhead of Nirma university comprises of the official logo along with university name, as well as the address and other necessary contact details.
The design of the notepad changes to centrally alligned unlike the design of the envelope and letterhead keeping in mind the binding method as well as visual balance. Other than the positioning, the elements have not been changed.
