Summary of the 9th AGTS Program

Day 0 (6th, Wednesday October 2021)

6:00pm to 8:00pm: Arrival and welcome cocktail

Day 1 (7th, Thursday October 2021)

8:00am – 5:00pm: Opening ceremony, summit sessions

6:00pm-8:00pm: Gala dinner and commemoration of EAGC @ 15years Exhibition will be open throughout the day

Day 2 (8th, Friday October 2021)

7:00am-8:30am: Investment matchmaking breakfast

9:00am -5:00pm: summit sessions and the closing ceremony Exhibition will be open throughout the day

Day 3 (9th October 2021)

8:30am - 1:00pm: Field visit to Port of Mombasa, Grain Bulk Handlers Ltd and Grain Industries Ltd

Delegates depart on 9th October, 2021 or at their own pleasure

About Ukunda

Ukunda is a coastal town in the South Coast/southern part of Mombasa. It paves way into Diani Beach, a major tourist attraction. It lies adjacent and to the immediate west of Diani Beach, along the Indian Ocean, close to the international border with the Republic of Tanzania.

It is located approximately 32 kilometers - 20 minutes by road, south of the port city of Mombasa, the nearest large urban area, and lies approximately 72 kilometers - 45 minutes by road, north of the town of Lunga Lunga, at the border with Tanzania.

Registration of delegates

i. Registration of in person participants

There will be on-site registration and badging for the delegates from 12:00pm on 6th October 2021 Registration will begin from Wednesday 6th October from 12:00pm to 8.00 p.m. and will continue on 7th Thursday, October from 8.00 am to 9.00 am. Longer lines should be anticipated on 7th, Thursday, October. Therefore, early registration and badge pick-up is strongly encouraged on 6th, Wednesday October.

Delegates are requested to pick their identification badges at the AGTS onsite hospitality desk at the Hotel reception area. Delegates will be expected to present their passports or national ID cards.

Badges must be worn at all times to gain access to the conference venue and meeting rooms.

The registration desk at the conference venue will open at 7:00 am on Thursday 7th October 2021. Delegates are requested to register before 8:30am in order for the summit sessions to kick off in time.

There will be country specific registration desks, delegates are requested to queue at their respective country registration desks.

A delegates pack will be issued to each participant at the AGTS onsite registration desk Delegates will be required to register for each of the Summit sessions before entering the respective venues.

Visa Requirements

Delegates from East African Community and COMESA countries do not need visas to travel to Kenya. Most of other nationalities can also obtain visa on arrival. For more information about Visa requirements, here are some quick steps to follows:

Step 1: Find out if you need a visa

First, it’s important to find out if you need a visa to enter Kenya. Citizens of most countries will need a visa although citizens of some countries will not. To find out which category you fall under and whether you can apply for a visa online, visit the Kenya e-Citizen website.

Step 2: Visa Application details

Find out what type of visa you require. For most conference participants, this will be a Single-Entry Visa.

Step 3: Apply for your visa

We recommend you apply for a visa as soon as you can. Visa costs are $51 USD for online applications and $50 USD for offline applications (for example, visas issued by Kenyan Embassies). Apply for an e-Visa online by creating an account.

To apply for a visa offline, find a Kenya Embassy near you (click on Missions Abroad in the main menu).

You can also apply for a visa when you arrive at the Kenya airport, but we recommend getting a visa before you travel to avoid delays any unforeseen inconvenience.

Accommodation during the summit

The summit secretariat has gone an extra mile to make the participation of delegates at the Summit as productive, as convenient and as enjoyable as possible. We have negotiated favorable rate of USD 100 from the Diani Beach Resort to accommodate our esteemed delegates and invited guests.

Delegates are requested to book their accommodation through AGTS to enjoy the negotiated accommodation rates.

Rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis, so get in touch with us today to secure the best deal on accommodation and airport transfers.

Delegates are requested to provide their details in advance with the hotel for pre-registration and pre allocation of rooms so as to enable express check in on arrival at the at the Diani Beach Resort.

Transport

Mombasa is easily accessible by air, road and train.

Flights:

There are several international airlines that fly direct to Moi International Airport in Mombasa, such as Ethiopian Airlines, Rwandair, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways, to name a few.

International passengers can also fly to Mombasa on Kenya Airways via Nairobi.

There are also daily scheduled domestic flights from Nairobi to Mombasa on Jambojet, Fly540 and Fly-SAX.

The following Airlines fly from Nairobi to Ukunda, participants are recommended to use them for their convenience.

Access of the Summit Venue from the airport

The Diani Reef Beach Resort Hotel Beach Resort & Spa is located 3km from Ukunda Airport, 43 km from Mombasa International Airport, and 46km from Mombasa Railway Station.

Delegates are requested to share their travel Itinerary with the AGTS team so at to organize specific transportation services from the airport at their(delegates) cost.

Dressing Code during the Summit

The dress code for the conference is business formal, while the welcome Cocktail is smart Casual. African dress code will be appropriate for the gala dinner. On the other hand, the field visits call for a relaxed, smart casual outfit with closed flat shoes .

Weather Information

Ukunda is a tropical town with a tropical climate all year; it is a great destination filled with activities for all ages. On average, the temperatures are always high, October is the sunniest month with average highs of 30 degrees Celsius and lows of 22 degrees Celsius. October has a high chance of precipitation.

Security Medical facilities

At the conference venue, medical assistance can be requested at the AGTS hospitality desk . An infirmary with medical staff will be also available within the conference venue.

The Diani Beach Hospital is highly recommended for PCR test for the delegates who will be flying out of Kenya after the conference. Diani Beach Hospital staff will conduct the test in the hotel so delegates will not need to travel across to the hospital.

All efforts are being made to ensure that the Summit will be as accessible as possible for Persons with disabilities. The Diani Reef Beach Resort meeting rooms are wheelchair accessible.

Free wireless Internet access will be available in the conference venue during opening hours of the Summit. Most of the hotels are also equipped with free Internet access.

Security at the conference venue is the responsibility of the Diani Reef Beach Resort Hotel. Outside these premises, all external security related issues are the responsibility of the host country, the Republic of Kenya.

All arriving high-level participants should alert their respective embassies for arrangements regarding security, transport, accommodation and other protocol matters.

Gala Networking dinner

The Gala dinner will be held on 7th, Thursday October 2021 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. All attending delegates will need to display their invitation cards at the dinner venue entrance.

Dress code for the gala dinner is African Attire.

Field Visit

Delegates have been scheduled to visit the Port of Mombasa and Grain Industries Ltd on the 9th, Saturday, October 2021. Transport will be provided from the Diani Reef Beach Resort Hotel by 7:00am.

Delegates will be provided with a packed snack for tea break.

Reservation process and details about the itinerary for the field visit will be communicated on the 9th AGTS website and at the summit information desk.

Trip to Wasini Island

Delegates not joining the field visits on 9th October, are invited to a field excursion to Wasini Island. The delegates not travelling same day after the field visit are also encouraged to consider taking the field excursion o the Island.

The Excursion includes:

Hotel pickup – Delegates will be picked from the hotel in Diani to enjoy a drive to the historical small fishing village of Shimoni at the South Coast. Here, delegates will have the opportunity to see rural villages, tall palm trees and lush greenery.

Slave caves– a local guide will be waiting to guide delegates through the Shimoni caves where slaves were “stored” during the od slave trading days before shipment to the Zanzibar slave market.

Shimoni piers – Delegates are set to board a traditional Arab Dhow for a cruise to the Marine Park.

Sailing on the dhow – Delegates have 90% chance to spot dolphins a they sail. Delegates can also enjoy coffee on board

Snorkel and Marvel - Accompanied by a certified and experienced guide, delegates will be provided with masks and snorkels to snorkel at the rich marine life where corals, exotic fish, and sea plants are protected. First timer will also be provided with special assistance.

Get back on board – a moment to refresh with fruits and soft drinks

Lunch Time – Delegates will sail to Wasini Island to a tantalizing tropical seafood lunch at the “Coral Spirit Restaurant. The seafood lunch is a fourcourse menu that includes crab, fish, sea weed, and rice with coconut sauce. Delegates can also opt for a chicken or vegetarian menu. Beer, wine and soft drinks are included.

The restaurant is built on coral architecture and located directly at the shores overlooking the channels towards Shimoni.

Wasini Village and Coral Garden (optional) – After lunch, delegates have the option to take a Discovery stroll through the island and its Swahili culture visiting the beautiful coral garden and mangrove forest. A local guide will be available to give an indepth oration throughout the tour.

Delegates alternatively have the option of relaxing at the restaurant enjoying the sea view and the breeze.

Return to Hotel– Delegates will return to the hotel at around 5.00 p.m
