REVERBERATION
POINT . LINE . PLANE . VOLUME
"The writing of a poem is like a child throwing stones into a mineshaft. You compose first, then you listen for the reverberation." James Fenton
design ONE professor DANIELLE WILLEMS FALL 2012
The investigation of sound and how it moves through a space, has given this project the opportunity to constantly evolve and explore more in depth diferent aspects of reverberation. During the exploration of this behavior, various levels of reverb were developed: high reverb, intermediate reverb, and low reverb. Each of theses forms of reverberation depend on the amplitude of a space and on the magnitude of the surfaces that embody a space. This project exhibits reverberation through various stages of decay and difusion. As one explores the space the amount of difusion of soundwaves that occures flucuates because the structure plays with compression and release, that way portraying the various levels of reverb to it’s extreme. The soundwaves slowly strat to decay in the path from intermediate reverb to low reverb. Once inside low reverb, the soundwaves slowly start to disappear.

INFILTRATION
design TWO professor ANNE NIXON SPRING 2013
The project studies the ability to inhabit the inhabitable and finding the comfort of infiltrating a space. In the research of infiltration, the idea of how simply a body crosses with its self could sparks up the complexity of “crossing of spaces”. This gave room to design a very dynamic space worth positive contradictions. The SLEEPING HOUSE on Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY invite students and faculty to partake in a communal but yet private sleeping facility that attempts to meet everyone’s sleeping preferences.

The Sleeping Home is made up of curves that comfortably fit the curves of the human body, offering enough comfort for the visitor to sleep in different positions depending on the desired sleep. The different stages of sleep would be dependent of on the how deep of sleep is wanted, whether it would be a few hours worth of a short quick nap. The center area of the building is also offered for a group sleep activities.

"We need sequences of space which arouse one’s curiosity, give a sense of anticipation, which beckon and impel us to rush forward to find that releasing space which dominates, which climaxes and acts as a magnet, and gives direction.

SPRING 2013
The C a l l a h a n H o u s e is a never built project by Paul Rudolph. Limited to only a set of five two- dimensional drawings existent, I developed a morphological study on the house. I studied the countless amounts of overlapping voids. From this discovery, the idea of a rule set that would push, pull, subtract or turn the overlapped area depending on the program of the house. Transforming the house into potentially a more dynamic space.

The growing popularity of Wave Hill Park in the Bronx, NY, opened up the oppurtunity to propose a design for an research and educational academy. This academy catered as a Feathered Sanctuary for Research and Care of Ill, Injured and Orphaned Wild Birds. The main attraction of the site is an Aviary that houses the Indigo Bunting and the Black-throated Green Warbler.

TESSELLATION PHASE TWO
PHASE ONE
V
The base of this project was through the development of a three- dimensional tessellation that would infinitely iterate itself allowing for endless arrangements of volumes. Moving forward, i developed this three- dimensional tessellation to a two- dimensional tessellation, from which my floor plans are based off of.
The idea of creating an aviary, gave room to play with the concepts of Feather, Wrapper and Stone. Conceptually analyzing how something heavy, such as a stone, interacts with something weightless such as a feather. Making the "wrapper" and intermediate point that would connect the two.

During the period of the course, i developed the ability to think “outside the box” and create objects and creatures through the creative act of morphology. The act of morphology, in this case, is the trasformation of an object or organism, until you reach a point that doesnt simulate the initial object.

design SEVEN professor ERIKA HINRICHS SUMMER 2014
During the development of this elementary school in downtown Brooklyn, I found interest in the conceptual idea of creating a structure that would start to emulate the urban landscape that occurs on the edges of Brooklyn through the notions of elevating and intersecting programs. To take this idea yet one step further, the building begins to give off the sensation that it is getting "peeled" away from the datum, allowing for the passing pedestrian the opportunity to stop and look down into the mulitpurpose space and be a part of any community events occuring. ankenny hernandez
