The second project from my third year was a col laborative effort where we explored traditional and contemporary Japanese architectural styles, in the Roppongi District of Tokyo. The cultural centre has nuances from different timezones, geographies, and cultural settings of the Japanese mainland. We thought of a way traditional architecture could be remoulded in the setting of city like Tokyo, which has different images at day and night.

04 Old + Modern The centre depicts fusion of tra ditional shrines and the new age polycarbonate homes, serving as a beacon of hope and culture.

03 Polycarbonate Walls A contemporary material , gaining popularity in contemporary Japa nese Residence design. Also easy to build and repair.

01 The Lantern These lanterns have existed since ages as beacons of light and hope. Our quest - to find our lost culture through the light of these lanterns.

Concept 02 Japanese Shrines Inspired from the traditional shrine typology, where roof is divided into two parts to create more space or letting in light.

In order to develop a unique visitor experience, the cultural centre is divided into 3 zones. Starting with the open air theatre nestled in the greens, the visitor moves to the zen courtyard. The blocks sur rounding it are remniscent of the Imperial Katsura Villa of Kyoto. The climax of this journey ends at the Food court, featuring the wooden beam matrix crafted using Japanese joinery techniques.

The architecture, although contem porary, has nuances from the vernac ular styles. The block is remniscent of the Kyoto Villa, a prime example of Japanese craft and detailing.

05 The Seminar Block

The first project from my third year was a group effort. The centre would serve as a platform where common people would be acquainted with the reasons and ef fects of climate change, and latest technical know-hows for disaster preparedness. The centre houses multiple seminar halls and galleries. The galleries are equipped with latest media display techniques including VR and simulation rooms. I was mainly responsible for the de signing the galleries, building elevations and exterior landscaping.

26 This is the first large scale project we designed in a group of five people. Since the project was for se nior citizens, it involved a lot of planning in terms of unit placement, response to climate and materiali ty. I was mainly responsible for the site zoning, land scaping and the design of individual resort units. Architectural Design Project/ 2022 Revit, Sketchup, Lumion 10 03

The brief was to design a 7 X 7 m interaction space for me and my friend, our favourite scientist and 5 like minded friends. Thomas Alva Edison has inspired many people. He was not only a scientist but also an entrepreneur and always believed in Tinkering. We applied principles of UX Design to arrive at design elements and interior style that would be loved by all the types of users.

I was responsible for assisting the principal architect in designing the floor plan for a commercial office. The office would later be redeveloped into a residence. So provisions for open/ semi-open spaces were included in the design. Since the client wished for an exposed brick facade, I was also responsible for performing re search on brick facade designs in India. also worked on the elvation of the entrance wall of the office us ing Rhino+Grasshopper

The challenge was to create a form out of POP using principles of addition and subtraction. One might notice that it is the sur faces and voids that define any form. This same model might look like a sea sponge if punctured with a thousands dents. Game of light and shadow , 1st year studio project
