Commercial Mixed-use Project Nagpur, Maharashtra VIII 2022 Academic Dr. Akshay Patil

The aim of the project was to create a mixed-use commercial hub with enhanced public experience & involvement through integration of informal natural environment & public realm. The main objective being to design a space that fits into the profile of the commercial buzz of Sitabuldi area in such a manner that it stands out as a landmark for the area. To develop a balance between open & semi-open spaces in such a manner that it promotes social interaction among the users, so that it acts as a welcoming place for one, whenever visiting a place nereby. The proposed design serves the purpose of not only being a commercial hub but also an urban landmark, an insertion in the busy area of Sitabuldi. The designing stage involved focusing on services such as parking, vertical circualtion, mechanical servies (HVAC), etc.

To add a bit of organic feel to the structure on the site is only justified by the true nature of what originally stands on it.

VISION + Creating the site as an image of an urban landmark & enhacing the space experience of the users alongwith generating revenue. + Designing a space that fits to the profile of the commercial buzz of Sitabuldi area.

ASHRAYA Typology: Location: Year: Type: Platform: Team:

Residential Project Nagpur, Maharashtra 2021 Competition House 2.0 | Archdias 3 members

HOUSE 2.0

Design for a competition with an aim to design a house that addresses the play of a typical household and at the same time responds to the intangible idea of what the term 'living' exactly means. The proposed design is an attempt to rethink the basic functionality of the house, and explores every notion of what a 'home' is, keeping in mind all aspects of emotional, mental and physical well-being, using intelligent and appropriate design interventions with clarity and comprehensibility of planning.

02

Design Features & Conceptual Sections “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”

Ashraya, a home designed for an upper-middle-class family to function well as a warm and refreshing place for rest, leisure, and work. It is an attempt at what a post-pandemic home would look like. Now that we are spending more time at home and having to share that limited area with our cohabitants, the available space is optimized to its maximum. Situated in the developing area of the city Nagpur, Maharasthra it caters to the needs of six members- the clients, their parents & two children.

The Jaali on the Northen facade lights up the interior and the courtyards ensure cross ventilation.

Location : Nagpur, Maharashtra Developing Residential Area Climate : Tropical Savannah Site Area : 2066 sq ft.

Individual pockets of greens and open spaces on both floors aid the ingress of natural light and fresh air. For achieving this, the spaces are designed around the courtyards - major to the North and minor to the South.

A S H R AYA

The courtyard stack effect keeps the interior cool allowing ample amount of air to enter and warm air escapes from the courtyard above.

Material Palette Exposed Brickwork - along the staircase well which creates a backdrop for the pooja space and the courtyard.

Ceramic Tiles- Flooring

Terracotta Jaali - along the Northen and Eastern facades. It allows diffused light and ventilation. Reclaimed Teakwood- Partitions, stairs, floor and window and door frames. Grass Bed- Courtyards and the terrace garden.

Various intermediate levels create visual connectivity within different levels.

Since spaces inside the home can’t any longer have a singular purpose, the design of a co-working space allows flexibility to the users. All spaces are visually connected to the courtyards hence having a sensory connection with each other. The Louvered Openings at the mid-landing levels of the staircase on the southern facade restricts heat rays while allowing air circulation. Thermal massing reduces heat gain and courtyards enhance passive cooling; the house relies on groundwater and harvested rainwater to meet their potable water needs and generate their own power with solar panels. The terracotta jaali on the Northern facade creates a beautiful play of light and shadows created at different times of the day and acts as the heating, cooling, and recreational spaces whilst maintaining privacy.

05 LAMELLA ROOFING

CONSTRUCTION

Typology: Location: Semester: Year: Type: Mentor:

Outdoor Project VNIT, Nagpur, Maharashtra VI 2021 Academic Dr. Vilas Bakde, Ar. Ahefaz Panjwani

The objective of the project was to design a temporary roof structure along with a stage for performing yoga as a part of International Yoga Camp held on the ground of VNIT Campus for 15 days. The performance stage was required to measure 20M x 10M with proper roof covering. Requirements included key plans, detail sections, working elevations and important details with brief specifications and dimensions. The proposed design included Lamella Roofing System using Short Length Timber (SLT) members and appropriate joinery. The flooring and foundation was also made using standard sized SLT members. Since the structure has to be temporary in nature using SLT construction proves to be an effecient method.

+Egg shaped hanging swing chair for relaxation can be used while reading or playing guitar or simply sitting and relaxing.

+ Gardening pots, small and medium sized (1000-1200mm high) shrubs to increase the green element.

+ This view shows the whole left portion of the rooftop that consists of : the fire pit, the seating surrounding it and the small shrubs that are around the seating. + It also shows low-heighted wooden plank railing in the periphery : for better view from the rooftop and also giving a rustic look to the rooftop.

+ This view shows armchair seating near the waterbody : helps create a soothing sound and environment. + The flooring here is the hardwood engineered flooring planks to give it a rustic look.

+ Provision of pergola - to have a semi-open (shaded) seating space.

+ Waterbody provided to create peaceful and aestheic tranquil environment + Armchair seating near waterbody to enjoy the sound and view of waterbody while sitting and relaxing.

+ This view shows the 4 panelled folding window that opens up to a bar counter seating. + It also shows the Egg shaped hanging swing chair for relaxation can be used while reading or playing guitar or simply sitting and relaxing.

+ View showing wooden seating beneath a pergola which creates shade and interesting shadow play during day. + The seating is surrounded by small shrubs planted at a height of 700mm which helps cooling the environment. 37
