01 ADAPTIVE RE-USE GOVERNOR’S ISLAND, NEW YORK

We were instructed to design an artist studio with our own alterations and additions using the “House 06” provided to our studio. These are my final designs, which display some of the traits of my hybrid creation. Different walls overlap one another, providing a wrapping-like effect. In the break-out areas and on the roof, lattice grids are employed to diffuse the light and produce pleasing patterns of light and shadow. The façade has been given a few thin slits and openings so that the hybrid object and my altered house speak in a somewhat comparable dialect. 04

THE RELATION BETWEEN SPACES The core concept was founded on the principle of adaptive re-use, where new additions are added to the exisiting building and it’s elements. Existing timber is used which is merging with recycled concrete on the facade. By doing so the culture of an area will be alive and will create a bridge between the old and new. Secondly, the project repurposes removed building materials to create architectural features, while minimizing the use of virgin materials. A basement, first level, second story, and third storey make up the structure. The bed and living quarters are in the basement, exhibition space is on the first floor, and studio space is on the second floor. Overall, the design strategy was successful and had aided in our understanding of the relationshipbetween the old and the new as well as how to combine the newly revised elements with the original features to provide the impression of a single component.

02 MIDDLE SCHOOL REDHOOK, NEW YORK

The narrative for this studio was to design a middle school in RedHook. The studio began by taking design logics as our concept, and with the help of the design logic I started understanding the relation between the flat surfaces and the semi-flat surfaces. With this understanding I started developing my massing startegy where the main concept is assembly of surfaces forming a whole mass. In order to create a path between them, the first threshold, which is the outside skin with small voids in it, connects to the second threshold, which is the inside skin. By connecting the inside skin to the following threshold, which has openings, space for light and ventilation is then created. In essence, the building’s form is determined by how the surfaces are joined together.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

THE RELATION BETWEEN SPACES The exterior and the interior spaces are well connected witht the concept of creating thresholds by layering them. The core concept for the floor plan is to create a spacewith different zones. The open spaces, private spaces, semi-public spaces, and public spaces are all interconnected in the middle school’s design. A middle school can be made inviting and stimulating by using these components. The integration of various thresholds might create a stimulating learning environment.

THE CONCEPT Recognizing the idea of thresholds and producing beautiful experiences. The idea of layering with various surfaces made it easier to create beautiful moments both inside and outside. These are some interior and exterior model shots explaning the above mentioned moments.

03 HOUSING WITH REDEVELOPMENT FARRAGUT HOUSES, NEW YORK

The studio’s primary area of interest was modern urban architectural features. Introduction to the interactions between urban form and its material attributes in particular. Designing from the outside in allows for the coordination of concerns like mixed land use, composite building use, transportation, and the environment through the unique characteristics of a building enclosure and site.

11

THE CONCEPT All the apartment units are connected with a common shared space area which also acts as the circulatory pathway. The main idea was to have an interactive space in the middle which can connect all the liveable spaces of the mass. The common shared space is designed in such a way that it receives maximum daylight and ventilation with very minimum dark spaces. The massing and the apartments even has thick poches which creates a sense of forest forming a relation between the exterior and the interior. This sense of forest creates a sense of mystery and changes the experience of the site for the users. It is a low cost housing for the farragut users where per floor has one bedroom, two bedroom and a three bedroom apartments with balconies and break-out spaces.

THE FACADE Brick cladding over precast concrete panels is a sophisticated architectural solution that seamlessly blends the timeless elegance of brick with the structural efficiency of precast concrete. This facade design marries aesthetics and functionality, offering a visually appealing exterior while ensuring durability and ease of construction. The precast concrete panels serve as a robust and load-bearing foundation, providing structural integrity to the building. These panels are crafted with precision off-site, allowing for greater quality control and faster on-site assembly. The use of precast concrete not only accelerates construction timelines but also minimizes on-site disruptions. The integration of brick cladding also connects the new massing wih the existing Farragut towers.

04 ADVANCED MODELLING & DRAWING PRATT INSTITUTE, NEW YORK

The representation of an architectural story image that is created utilizing combined sketching skills and a photograph is the major emphasis of this project. Utilized are 3D scanned images of a building. These images are used and altered to tell the story of a brand-new speculative rendering of that structure. The new speculative imagery will be used in conjunction with section, plan, and/or axonometric representations of the integrated drawing.

THE CONCEPT The main idea of this project was to understand the quality of spaces of Higgins hall with the help of the 3D scanned image of it. The space used is one of the classroom on the third floor. The first step was to re-model the whole space in Revit and to create two dimensional drawings of it. The space is a beautiful double height classroom made of brick walls and is connected to the main corridor. The next step was to find interesting cross sectional drawings of appliances that we used in our daily life. Here is a cross section of a flashlight, which is used to alter the existing space modelled in revit. With the interesting poches of the flashlight, new spaces are designed. This helps us to understand the relation between poche and a space. The whole process is done on rhino by converting the revit file.

05 ALTERED ESTATES KATONG CENTER, SINGAPORE

This project focuses on the behavior and understanding of narrative structures in relation to multi-dimensional models and their capacity to generate theoretical ideas surrounding climate change through their documentation and re-presentation. It does so through the lens of urban interiority, a quality of densification resulting from the need to minimize resource impact and by developing additions to the Katong shopping center which is under threat in Singapore and can capture and maximize resource capacity.

NEW ELEVATION

THE CONCEPT OF SPACE OBJECT In architecture, the concept of a “space object” refers to the idea that a building or structure is not just a passive container of space but an active participant in defining and shaping the spaces within and around it. It suggests that a building should be more than just an enclosure; it should be a distinctive and purposeful element within its environment. It helps define the character of a space, enhance its sense of place, and contribute to the overall design narrative of a site or building. The new adition are two huge building mass towers and creates an interactive zone connecting the two masses. The new additions have stepped massingfor rainwater harvesting system and green interactive zone helps in reducing the heat island effect.
