SAC's APD group collaborated with DRX a research group run by Henn Architekten. The task was to identify the Voids in selected skyscrapers across the globe. The Lotte Tower (specimen explored) represented an amazing spatial organization of these voids. The horizontal stacks seen in the fully red model are the amenity spaces which are have exaggerated volumes. They also act as buffers/separators/unison spaces for the varied program of the tower. In a way every different building typology encapsulated in this mixed use building is actually sandwiched between these layers of Voids- a representation of the Cognitive idea of a Void. The vertical instead represents the circulation systems (escalators, elevators etc.) these though occupied in some sense are elements that bind the various cognitive voids to each other and hence become equally important to document, in a building these are actually Void spaces- the Literal Voids.
