A Message From The Director

My family and I saw Stephan Daldry’s production of An Inspector Calls in London in 2016, a production credited with revitalizing what’s now widely viewed as a masterpiece of twentieth-century British drama. Written by J.B. Priestley in 1945, it has in the past few decades been seen by more than four million people worldwide, confirming its deep resonance for contemporary audiences. Although set in England in the Spring of 1912, the play is extraordinarily modern in terms of its bluntness and dramatic ferocity. As was noted by Daldry in a 1994 interview: “In some ways the play is more American than English. It’s about a family tearing itself apart, and huge, deep, true emotions are unleashed as they do so.” It’s also about the damage done to others and to ourselves when we fail to treat people who are struggling to get by with some level of decency and respect. It was a joy to cast and direct this work. I’m deeply indebted to all concerned.

WHO’S WHO IN THE COMPANY

MIRANDA DANILOFF MANCUSI (Sybil Birling) is new to Cape Cod theater. Her inaugural performance was as Barbara Jackson in the BCC’s production of Pack of Lies. She is thrilled to be working again with director Jim Ring and fellow actress Kelly Kean, along with this very talented cast and crew of An Inspector Calls. A communications and management consultant focused on sustainability and climate change, Miranda stepped back on stage after a 30-year break. She received her Bachelor’s degree in theatre from Northwestern University. In Chicago, she acted professionally at Bailiwick, Stormfield, and City Lit theatres including Snow by screenwriter John Logan, (Any Given Sunday and Gladiator.) She played Kate in the Remains Theatre production of Tom Stoppard’s Albert’s Bridge opposite Denis O’Hare. She appeared in the ABC TV drama, Jack and Mike and narrated the award-winning documentary Hispanic Mosaic for WTTW, Chicago’s PBS station. Miranda and her husband live in Barnstable Village.

CISSY GEORGE (Edna; March 17-19) Cissy’s first foray into the Barnstable Comedy Club was in her role as the chairperson of the Club’s 100th anniversary celebration last year followed by running the spotlight for Rock of Ages. Her father in law, Harold George, and brother in law, Lloyd George, past and current presidents of BCC, opened the door for Cissy over the years. Aside from being in the dance lines for the Framingham North High School productions of No, No Nannette and Funny Girl, along with years of dance recitals, this is Cissy’s first time on stage with an acting role.

JOHN HANRIGHT (Eric Birling) is thrilled to make his BCC debut! He has been active in Cape theatre for several years. Recent credits: Dracula (Chatham Drama Guild: world premiere) and Victor/Victoria (Cotuit Center for the Arts: regional premiere). Also a writer, John is ecstatic his play, The Finishing Touch, will premiere on Saturday, March 25 at 2 PM as part of the Orleans Academy of Performing Arts’ New Plays Festival! He recently graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a B.A. in English. John thanks Jim, the cast, crew, and (as always) his family and friends for their support.

KELLY KEAN (Sheila Birling) is super excited to be doing her 2nd play at the BCC. Last year she played Thelma in the production of Pack of Lies. A newer resident of Barnstable, Kelly moved here with her husband Ryan and daughter Madeleine from Los Angeles when the Covid pandemic hit. Kelly is a long time member of SAG/AFTRA, having worked on Days of Our Lives on NBC and many national commercials. In Los Angeles, Kelly studied improv at UCB in Hollywood and had On Camera training at Krater Studios. Kelly has also done sketch work and voice-over work on Comedy Central. Getting back to the stage was always a goal of hers so performing at the BCC is a dream come true! She’d like to thank the director, Jim Ring, for believing in her talent and giving her the chance to do what she loves.

LARRY LICKTEIG (Arthur Birling) This is Larry’s first foray into Cape Cod community theater, and he’s delighted to meet you. Prior to BCC, he has haunted theaters in southern New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts for over 36 years. Among Larry’s most challenging roles are Rene’ Gallimard in M. Butterfly, Captain Beatty in Fahrenheit 451, George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Brian in The Shadow Box, Frederick Treves in The Elephant Man, Henry II in The Lion in Winter, John Barrymore in I Hate Hamlet, and Billy Bigelow in Carousel. He lives in Sandwich with his true love Cheryl, two cats, and his motorcycle.

ROBERT MINSHALL (Inspector Goole) Rob Minshall is no stranger to local community theatre. He first took the stage in 2002 a production of Evita at the Falmouth Theatre Guild. Since then, he has performed from Buzzards Bay to P-Town, enjoying great roles on many Cape Community Theatre stages. His favorite roles include the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Dr. Craven in The Secret Garden, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Dr. Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror, and Emile in South Pacific. Rob is happy to be back on the BCC stage having last been here for the Fall production of Rock of Ages as a last-weekend replacement. When he is not working as a selfemployed painting contractor and handyman, he enjoys spending his time raising and playing with his son Remy, who was born during his first show at BCC, a few hours before curtain for Guys and Dolls in 2011, directed by his incredible wife Corinne. Rob would like to thank Jim for this opportunity and all the hard work of his cast mates. He would also like to thank Corinne and Remy for their support and encouragement in all his theatre endeavors.

ERIKA SLATER (Edna) I happened to be searching for ‘comedy clubs’ one day looking for a venue for a night out. And there it was – “Barnstable Comedy Club “ Not exactly what I was looking for but I loitered around the website long enough to see they were looking for help. I popped down one Monday evening just for a lark - next thing I know I’m making my debut strutting around a stage wearing a long black dress & starched white pinny being called Edna. I thought I was going to be sweeping the stage or making cups of tea for the cast. So the moral of all this – be careful what you Google. I live in E. Falmouth, work as hypnotist in Mashpee and I love to tell stories.

DAN SVIRSKY (Gerald Croft) is an actor best known for his performances at Cape Cod Community College and Bridgewater State University. His credits at 4C’s include Loot as Meadows, God Bless You Mr. Rosewater as Delbert Peach, Picasso at the Lapin Agile as Albert Einstein, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime as Mr. Thompson and She Kills Monsters as Orcus. His BSU credits include Assassins as FDR and VetSpeak as Vietnam Vet #2. This is his first performance at the Barnstable Comedy Club and he is excited to be a part of this ensemble.

JAMES F. RING (Director) has been involved in community theatre productions since the early nineteen-sixties, when he spent summers working at the Harwich Junior Theatre and performed throughout Cape Cod as one of the Harwich Junior Players under the direction of Anthony Inslee Hancock, III. His work in front of and behind the curtain recently expanded as a result of his having successfully disentangled himself from a longtime career as a trial lawyer in Boston. He is a full-time resident of Barnstable Village, where he draws inspiration from the dedicated volunteers at the Barnstable Comedy Club. He is deeply honored to have been able to direct and work alongside of the dedicated and highly talented cast and crew of An Inspector Calls.

PATTI HUGHES (Stage Manager) It came in the mail: a BCC interest finder. Little did I know that by showing the slightest interest in "hospitality" I was opening a door to new friends, strange and wonderful new creative experiences and a mad love for community theater. While I have been onstage for countless productions, it has always been in the dark! Stage Manager Job Description: Likes to grope around in the dark, can find and insert tiny batteries quickly, carry improbable objects large and small without muttering, is stealthy like a cat and a good whisperer. Encourages, consoles and finds missing things.
