(or maybe two) out of a space with contradicting and complicated conditions; one that takes a person (or maybe two) out of a space that is understandable and into one that is (to put it extremely) unfathomable.

Anti - Void

Inspired by the Klen Bottle a form that is both inside and outside. This volume is removed from the stability of the ground plane. It is a space where light comes from multiple sources. It is a disorienting space removed from the regularity and logic of an ordinary day. This is our project. We call it AntiVoid. We evolved through many forms in order to create a space with contradicting and complicated conditions; one that takes a person

We have done so through the creation of a structural, triangulated grid of pipes that is then wrapped in vinyl cord.

This allows for a skin that can be on the interior at one moment and exterior at the next. This structure The inspiration for our project is the then rests in the tree, inviting Klein Bottle. The Klein Bottle is a people into its ambiguous space. non-orientable surface. Informally, it is a surface (a two-dimensional Project Credits manifold) in which notions of left Anna Chen and right cannot be consistently Katie Filek defined. It has no boundary and Christine Chung therefore does not distinguish Alex Van Zyl Samantha Mylnek between inside and outside. Vince Xi For us, the difficulty of a klein bottle is that it is a surface condition, so when one intends to make it three dimensional, one faces the issue of it folding in on itself. In order for it to be fabricated, this interior-exterior condition must be resolved.

Laneway house 63.5 on parking lot 63 Project Credits Anna Chen Katie Filek Oliver Szeleczky

Situated in the West of Denman area in Vancouver, this singleperson laneway house sits on the dimensions of a single parking lot. Based on the PL1400 structure, the building perceives challenges of comfort, sightlines, sun condition, circulation, privacy and publicity, all of which are explored through the idea of a periscope.

Each of the eight units possess a balcony facing onto this courtyard, as well as a front stoop shared with one other unit one which one may sit, socialize, and supervise. In this specific housing development we propose the simple play structure of a sandbox, set into the paved courtyard, but as the housing propagates throughout the West End the play structure itself could shift.

This project is designed for families with 2-3 children in mind though an analysis of both the lack of children in the neighborhoods population, and lack of existing housing stock for families. Due toCeperley its predominant Playground economic focus: one bedroom and studio units for individuals, the project aims to gain higher revenue. 1932 Alberni St. Coal Harbour

The site is located in a unique location – the laneway – we wanted our housing design to not only allow families to live comfortably, but also to allow for reclamation of that laneway for residents, and specifically the reclaiming of outdoor space for play.

Outdoor play is essential in cognitive and physical development of children, yet we exist today in a world of paranoia in which parents hesitate to allow their children beyond their doorsteps without supervision. We turned to the concept of “eyes on the street” as a way to shift this paradigm: our units center around a shared courtyard, with program pushed to the front of each unit to allow for supervision from interior spaces.

The three bands consist of floatation mechanics that would allow them to move with changing tides sometimes appearing and disappearing at distances. This adds an elusive quality as they require explorers to seek their existence.

On the Edge As riparian zones are crucial to water habitats, the intervention intent to reestablish the Fraser River Delta with three band of arms reaching over riparian zones transforming them into a public educational and exploration space.
