Moscow, Russia’s largest megalopolis, takes the lead in introducing and disseminating the world’s best practices of urban development and planning both within Russia and globally. The Moscow Urban Forum is an annual event for discussing the most current trends in modern urban development, introducing professionals to state-of-the-art technologies and the world’s best practices in urban development and city planning. The Moscow Urban Forum 2011 was initiated with the goal of consolidating Russian and international experience in urban planning. The event resulted in an updated set of tools and technologies for their implementation in Russia. The Forum became a launchpad allowing international experts to become involved in the process of development of Moscow and other Russian cities and stimulating their competitiveness on a global scale.

The Moscow Urban Forum 2012 invites companies and expert institutions that specialize in the following areas of urban planning and development: Management Consulting Development Engineering City Planning Finance

Sergei Sobyanin Mayor of Moscow

Why does Moscow host the Urban Forum? Because Moscow is welcoming, Moscow is hospitable. We are open and ready to call out the problems we have, and we are prepared to discuss them with others. Cities, however far away they are — in different countries or on different continents — often have similar problems.

Jan Gehl

Architect, Gehl Architects

I sing like Frank Sinatra, only about Moscow: “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. It’s up to you—Moscow, Moscow!”

Shi Nan

Secretary General, Urban Planning Society of China

Over the course of the past few decades, China has learned a great deal from other countries. We have now accumulated our own experience, and we came to participate in the Forum in order to share our experience with others. The lesson that we have learned is this: learn from other countries, educate each other, but always take into account the entire context. Do not just copy everything you see, but instead analyze carefully what happened and why it turned out to be good or bad on a case-by-case basis.

Greg Clark

Senior Fellow, ULI EMEA

The Forum was extremely interesting and intellectually challenging. The atmosphere of the conference was candid and welcoming, and aimed at finding real instruments for achieving palpable progress. I am sure that the discussions that took place at the Forum were of great use for those who attended and will facilitate practical conclusions.

Edward Blakely

Honorary Professor of Urban Policy and Head of the United States Studies Center at the University of Sydney

Moscow is an easy city to fall in love with. It is a city of elegant landscapes, great museums and rich cultural life. In December 2011 on the edge of Russian winter Moscow put on a spectacular Urban Forum with a stunning panel of international experts from all over the world.
