Moscow, Russia’s largest megalopolis, takes the lead in introducing and disseminating the world’s best practices of urban development and planning both within Russia and globally. The Moscow Urban Forum is an annual event for discussing the most current trends in modern urban development, introducing professionals to state-of-the-art technologies and the world’s best practices in urban development and city planning. Sergei Sobyanin Mayor of Moscow
Why does Moscow host the Urban Forum? Because Moscow is welcoming, Moscow is hospitable. We are open and ready to call out the problems we have, and we are prepared to discuss them with others. Cities, however far away they are — in different countries or on different continents — often have similar problems.

I sing like Frank Sinatra, only about Moscow: “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. It’s up to you—Moscow, Moscow!”
Shi Nan
Secretary General, Urban Planning Society of China
Over the course of the past few decades, China has learned a great deal from other countries. We have now accumulated our own experience, and we came to participate in the Forum in order to share our experience with others. The lesson that we have learned is this: learn from other countries, educate each other, but always take into account the entire context. Do not just copy everything you see, but instead analyze carefully what happened and why it turned out to be good or bad on a case-by-case basis.

Senior Fellow, ULI EMEA
The Forum was extremely interesting and intellectually challenging. The atmosphere of the conference was candid and welcoming, and aimed at finding real instruments for achieving palpable progress. I am sure that the discussions that took place at the Forum were of great use for those who attended and will facilitate practical conclusions.
