Facade Development
VOLUME 1B: RAK HOTEL STAFF HOUSING CONCEPT DESIGN STAGET | CONCEPT DESIGN REPORT
Facade Development
Taking inspiration from Ras Al Khaimah’s natural mountainous terrain, the facades follow a gradient pattern and are Patterndistinguished by color. Color The materiality approach is Gradient simple. buildings stay true to form SimpleThe Materiality and Graphics are bathed in white paint with linear patterning. The adaptation of Al Marjan’s new brand identity suited the inspiration as the same was inspired by the same natural formations in Ras Al Khaimah. The proposed new brand has applied pattern, gradient and colors to provide a fresh and reliable vision for the companies identity. We took this direction as a suitable facade treatment that activated the facades of the linear residential blocks and proposed herein two possible directions that both manifest a modern living community.
BALANCE COMMUNITY
The materiality approach is simplistic. The buildings stay true to form and bathed in white paint that is animated by the two different facade expressions applied as paint finishes.
BONDING
To further activate the creation of a community where LIVE WORK PLAY is the main emphasis, multi-colored Graphics is used to create a more vibrant and attractive community edifice. This will be designed in detail in the next stage.
Location: Al Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah Use: Residential Area: 73,000 sqm GFA The RAK Staff housing development’s vision is centered on creating an attractive and sustainable community for Al Marjan Island’s current and future hotel work force. A community that will be home to different ethnicities and goes beyond the LIVE-WORK habitation. Role: • •
Helped develop and produce BIM model and related drawings for client and authority submissions Assisted in developing the interior layouts and external facades

Location: Germany Use: Residential Area: 20 sqm The design brief was to furnish the client’s living and dining areas with a minimalistic design approach whilst keeping within the budget. The client wanted the new design to compliment her existing furniture. Role: • •
Worked on the 2D plan and 3D visualization Individual furniture selection from client’s preferred website
Designed with a less-is-more approach, the light, bright space is enhanced using a warm palette with splashes of pastel green highlighted by the cushions, jars and candles. The hanging planters make the room vibrant. The contrasting materials of the furnishings like metal, cane, leather, glass and wood create a dynamic fusion of textures.

PASSIVE COOLING SECTION Passive cooling section
In order to cool the retail area passively, the use of the North Westerly prevailing winds have carefully been considered. This has been achieved by forming a canyon at the entrance, forcing the air upwards then accelerating the wind by compressing the roof and passing the air across carefully placed water features. The hot air then escapes from the raised roof section and the remaining cool breeze continues to pass throughout the remaining retail areas, towards the promenade. The aim is to achieve a balanced wind tunnel effect to adequately cool customers throughout the year, without being uncomfortable.
