LANDSCAPE DESIGN White City estate and public highways Client: Groundwork UK RIBA Work Stage: 3 Responsibilities: Concept design, visualisations, material schedules, typical section drawings The scope of this project was to assess the feasibility and design opportunity for White City highways, important first design components

were permeable paving, tree pits and raingardens that can quickly perform this source control function and attenuate water through the use of simple flow controls.

This provided multiple opportunities to remove storm water from the

combined sewer network, as well as allow for the removal of pollutants at different stages, as well as potentially contributing to an improvement of landscape quality and habitat which would be of great added value.

That gave an opportunity to both reduce pressure on the sewer network, but also to make significant improvement to the quality of streetscene through the use of water sensitive integrated design.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN Camden Open Space Improvements Client: Groundwork UK RIBA Work Stage: 2 Responsibilities: Site analysis, concept design, visualisations, material schedules

TOLMER’S SQUARE CONCEPT PLAN

Reducing the impact of a new high-speed railway HS2 requires some improvements of Camden open spaces. HS2 Ltd committed to improving and

creating green spaces in impacted areas such as Tolmer’s Square and the spaces around the areas located within Regents Park Estate. The designs show how these areas will be transformed into an attractive, natural play and garden space for young children & families, including informal play features, upgrading the existing planting, adding varied and colourful planting, and removing or replacing old gates and fences. It was also proposed to improve the connection between the gardens and the surroundings.

Due to existing anti-social behaviour issues, the sunken garden will be replaced by sustainable urban drainage scheme with a boardwalk winding its way through the rain garden planting and grasses.

Existing shrub planting replaced with contemporary grasses and perennials

The existing tree seat could be timber clad or reduced in height to discourage perching. Informal play elements such as stepping stones and balancing beams encourage children to cross the rain garden.

he overall design of Tolmer’s Square has been shaped by constraints imposed by the large plane trees that dominate the square. It is proposed to address the ASB issues by repurposing the sunken seating area as a SuDS rain garden feature. Resurfacing throughout the site will improve levels issues and drainage as well as improving the visual aesthetic of the whole

The design shows how we propose to make the space brighter and more accessible through better planting and surfacing while retaining its calm

TYPICAL PLANTING PLANS FOR RAISED PLANTERS

The Heights Charlton Client: Groundwork UK RIBA Work Stage: 3 Responsibilities: Soft landscape package, materials and furniture schedules, planting plans The re-design of this public space has generated both environmental and social benefits. Pathway alterations have also reinstated safe, level access to homes. Strengthening the boundaries of the estate made it looks

more attractive and defined semi-private spaces for residents (eg back gardens). Planting was used to help create a unique site identity for entrance nodes and communal green spaces, to frame key views, and to generally improve site legibility and overall attractiveness. MASTERPLANNING REALISATION OF THE PROJECT (source: http://olsztyn.wyborcza.pl)

SĹ‚oneczna Polana - Recreation and Watersport Centre in Olsztyn, Poland Client: RESTUDIO Architekci Responsibilities: Concept design, technical design, green roof project design, planting and material schedules

Development of the masterplan of the public use area. I was the member of the team working on construction project in colaboration with architects from RE_STUDIO. The Watersport Centre has opened in September 2015.

COMPETITIONS

Architectural competition Second Prize 2010 Architectural competition for the construction of an indoor swimming pool on the Campus of University of Technology, Poland. Collaboration with the architecture studio RE_STUDIO

Collaboration with the architecture studio RE_STUDIO

COMPETITIONS Industrial Park Exhibition on Gardenia Fair 2012 Competition organised by the National Association of Garden Designers; Poznan International Fair, Poland The idea is to create an architecturally and spatially interesting public space. In the park, I planned two independent recreational spaces in the northern part of the park. There is a large entrance plaza where I designed a modern sculpture, which can serve as a fountain. There are wide paths you can walk around the reservoir and reach the sports section of the park with a playground and a hill that overlooks the entire area. All banks are terraced and wooden platforms can be used for relaxation by local residents and can be used as a stage for outdoor events. An important element of the park project is the urban furniture, which is very specific and tailored to this place with benches, terraces on the water, and lighting. They fit well into the architectural context of the environment, in particular clearly characterised in the heating pipes.

COMPETITIONS ”Palace Park” Second Prize 2009 National competition for conception of revitalisation of the 19th-century Park in north-western Poland. Exhibited on the Warsaw International Expocentre EXPO XXI 2010.

COMPETITIONS Bytom Town Square Finalists Exhibition 2012 National landscape design competition for the regeneration and development of the new vision for the town square in Bytom, Poland.

BRANDING COMPETITIONS ”Locomotive Playground” Publicity Award and Exhibition 2012 National Competition for the best playground project Poznan International Fair, Poland The playground involves creative usage of space and provokes to play creatively. The design of the space enables children sensory learning about the world, it stimulates their imagination, develops and builds awareness of the social relations. The concept is based on poem ”Locomotive” by polish poet Julian Tuwim. The symbol of the train and the train tracks running through the area unite spaces having different functions, designed for different age groups and preferences of users. An additional advantage of the concept is its limitlessness manifested in the possibility of continuing outside of the square and integrating with the surrounding landscape.

GARDEN DESIGN Suburban Garden This big family garden is situated near Warsaw. I designed it in the winter of 2013 and built it in the next year.

The location of the client’s one-storey residential house with narrow passages on the sides and considerable variations in ground level created some extreme design challenges on this property. The client also wanted to maintain as many birch trees as possible and many of them were situated on the lower level compared to the street. The design concept was to create a space with the gentle lines of a lawn and the least amount of paved surface. The boundaries were blurred by planting various plants and shrubs close together. It created a stunning backdrop and automatically made the space look larger and well established. The large wooden deck leads directly from the kitchen and living room down to the decorative lawn in the front garden. An open lawn area is close to the house, which is surrounded by deep, densely planted beds. I decided to create a journey through the garden from the upper wooden terrace to the lower part of the garden via a path paved with granite. The backyard is more informal and the shape of the lawn surface is more curved and delicate. This place is ideal for contemplation with the open view to the nearest wild pond and the birch grove. At the end of the garden is a hidden seating area, which makes a lovely peaceful place to hide away.

GARDEN DESIGN Artistic Garden This is a sophisticated urban garden I designed and built between 2013 and 2014.

The client needed to fit his garden with the architecture of the new house but also wanted to reflect his personal style and love of the art. To To complement the modern look I decided to use floating lines of concrete walls and go with strictly green and white for the planting theme for the garden accented only with red-leaved acer palmatum. A contemporary, yet comfortable town garden was carefully composed, and the space was extracted for multiple ‘outdoor rooms’ while leaving maximum space for the lawn. A modern water feature and a long narrow pool become the main focal points in the garden visible from the living room, the bedrooms, and the big wooden terrace. Subtle lighting brings the garden to life after dark, which helps to connect it to the living space when it is not being used.

GARDEN DESIGN The Classic Roof Garden I designed and built the roof gardens on the sixth floor of a Warsaw residential estate in the summer of 2012. The client on the sixth floor of the warsaw residential estate had two terraces on his new apartment. The first one was small and very slim curving around the living area and the bigger one lead directly from the dining room and was visible from the kitchen and the parents bedroom. The members of the family, who are often out of town, wanted an outdoor space that looked terrific all year round from both indoors and out. It was important to create a space that would be both user friendly and elegant. The Italian wall fountain and wicker furniture set the mood for afternoons of relaxation with landscape lighting to accent the stunning plantings and extend the days’ enjoyment of this space well into the evenings. The openwork garden panels protect against the wind and intense sunlight and make a background for the carefully selected plants in decorative planters.
