Andre Krayewski Andre de Krayewski is an artist and Polish expatriate currently residing in Newark, New Jersey in the United States. With a career that spans more than half a century, he continues to masterfully create paintings in his art-deco signature style and in pop art style. Andre de Krayewski is best known in Poland for his movie posters, a career he began in 1965. In America, he was the official artist for the 1997 Panasonic Jazz Festival and painted the New York Film Academy painting which could be seen on countless Academy posters and ads round the nation. He has won many awards, and his work is cherished and sought for by many art collectors worldwide.

Andrzej Pagowski One of the younger of the Third Generation of artists of Polish School of Posters, he easily made the transition from socialism to capitalism; in 1990, he created his own graphic studio, STUDIO P, which developed into an advertising agency in 1993 and continues in operation today. As an artist, his individualized posters evoke a range of moods and ideas. He claims to have created a separate concept for each of his many posters, saying: “Every poster for me is an individual exercise different from the previous one.” His art can be found in many European museums as well as the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has also had one-man shows in Stockholm, Paris, London, and Warsaw.

Bronislaw Zelek Bronisław Zelek, born 1935, is a graphic designer, poster artist and author of acclaimed typefaces. Zelek was born in 1935. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Henryk Tomaszewski in 1961. In 1967, he received Tadeusz Trepkowski‘s prestigious WAG Award and from the 1970s he worked as his former tutor Hernyk Tomaszewski’s assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in Vienna. Original and captivating film posters are Bronisław Zelek’s trademark. His very characteristic way of implementing stills and ascetic colours and his perfect blending of images and typography have made him widely recognised as the no. 1 specialist of portraying horror films in posters. Nevertheless, he is equally comfortable in other fields.

“To kill a Mockingbird” is an American drama film adaptation of the novel by Harper Lee. The main roles are played by Gregory peck, Mary Badam and Phillip Alford. Eryk Lipinski Eryk Lipiński was a Polish artist. Satirist, caricaturist, essayist, he has designed posters, written plays and sketches for cabarets, as well as written books on related subjects. He studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts from 1933 to 1939. During World War II he was one of the artists working with the Polish resistance, involved in production of false documents. He was arrested by the Nazis and imprisoned in the infamous Pawiak prison, in Mokotów prison and in the Auschwitz concentration camp. After the war he contributed to many newspapers and magazines, such as Przekrój, Przegląd Kulturalny, Trybuna Ludu, Panorama, Zwierciadło and Express Wieczorny. In 1966 he organized the First International Poster Biennale. In 1978 he founded the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw and was its first director.One of the Polish Righteous among the Nations (he received this title in 1991).

Franciszek Starowieyski Franciszek Andrzej Bobola Biberstein-Starowieyski (1930–2009) was a Polish artist. From 1949 to 1955 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and Warsaw. He specialized in poster, drawing, painting, stage designing, and book illustration. He was a member of Alliance Graphique International (AGI). Throughout his career his style deviated from the socialist realism that was prevalent during the start of his career and the popular, brightly colored Cyrk posters; however he did create one Cyrk poster Homage to Picasso in 1966. He was the first Polish artist to have a one-man show at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, in 1986.

In a French village, Manou is an Italian logger, virile, with a broad laugh. He can’t say no to women’s sexual invitations, and jealous villagers blame him for recent fires and a flood. Henryk Tomaszewski Henryk Tomaszewski (1914— 2005) — Polish artist-painter, a pioneer of the Polish school of poster. Tomaszewski began his professional training at the Warsaw School of graphic industry, where he received a lithograph diploma. He studied painting at the Academy of fine arts in Warsaw. In 1939 he received first prize for the project of the Polish pavilion at the world exhibition in New York. After the second world war Tomaszewski together with Eric Lipinski have received a standing order for the projects of posters for the Polish state film studios. Their posters became the turning point in the aesthetics of the poster. Instead of the traditional photo montages frames from the film, Tomaszewski suggested that expressive, almost brutal pictures with clear typography. The success of these posters was the beginning of the Polish school of poster, which for decades set the high level of this art in Poland. In 1948 Tomaszewski was awarded five first prizes for their posters at the international exhibition of film posters in Vienna. In 1966 Tomaszewski was appointed Professor of the Academy of fine arts in Warsaw. 1959-1966 1972-1974, and was elected Dean of the graphic Department of the Academy. Was also engaged in book graphics and the art of theatre.

From 1943 to 1946 he attended the School of Artistic Industry in Lvov and from 1947 to 1949 attended the Krakow’s Fine Arts Lycee. He studied at Kraków Academy of Fine Arts. He was artistic editor of “Ty i Ja” monthly (Warsaw) 1959-1962 . In 1963 he moved to France and naturalized in 1971. He worked as art director of Vogue, Elle and Mafia - advertising agency and was artistic creator of Opus International . Taught at the Ecole Superieure d’Arts Graphiques (ESAG) in Paris. In 1976 he produced his “reviev of panic information” - “Kamikaze”/No. 1/ published by Christian Bourgois. In 1991 he produced “Kamikaze 2” with Agnes B. He took part in numerous group exhibitions of graphic, poster and photographic art and was a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale).

Waldemar Świerzy Waldemar Świerzy (1931 – 2013) was a Polish artist. Born in Katowice, Poland, he graduated from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts in 1952. He was subsequently Professor in the University of Fine Arts in Poznań from 1965 and Professor in the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1994. In 1992 the government of Poland issued a postage stamp to honor one of his Cyrk posters, ‘Clown with derby’ in 1992. Swierzy is one of the Polish School of Posters’ most prolific artists, having created over 2500 posters. He employed unusual concepts with a variety of techniques, frequently mirroring Polish social history from 1950s through 1980s, with a myriad of styles: folk art from the 50s, pop art from the 60s, portraits from the 70s, and TV images from the 80s In addition, his Jazz Greats series of famous American jazz personalities became so well known that he reissued them in his later years as signed lithographs. The series includes: Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Charles Mingus and Charlie Parker, among others.

Wiktor Górka Graphic designer, one of the founders of the so-called Polish School of Posters. In 1952, Górka obtained a degree in graphic design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków where he was under the supervision of Jerzy Karolak. He studied painting in the studio of Jerzy Nowosielski and Tadeusz Kantor. The artist was a co-founder of the so-called Polish School of Posters, whose most important principles were: simplicity and clarity, the use of concise symbols and poetic metaphors, as well as diverse means of expression. Between the 50s and the 80s Wiktor Górka worked with the biggest Polish publishers and film distributors. He designed posters (amounting to nearly 300), book and magazine covers, commercial logos and prints. The artist participated in many exhibitions around the world. His posters and projects were awarded in the most important Polish and international competitions. His most famous work is the poster design for the cult film Cabaret (1973).
