EYFS Curriculum Dovecote Nurseries follow EYFS curriculum that is governed by the UK. The EYFS framework sets UK standards for the development of children aged from birth to five. The curriculum is based on four core principles.
The curriculum is based on four core principles. The Unique Child
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
Our model of curriculum delivery covers the education and care of all of our children in their early years provision, including the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities. Our teachers and staff teach children by ensuring challenging, playful opportunities across the prime and specific areas of learning and development in the EYFS.
Enabling Environments
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between teachers, staff, parents and carers. Enabling environments value all people and value learning.
Effective Learning and Development
We know that children develop and learn in different ways.
Daily Routine Each day is planned around the needs and interests of every individual child, enabling each to develop at a rate that suits them. However, the overall structure and rhythm of the day remains the same, as we know that routine contributes to a secure environment for children when they know what to expect and therefore how to behave.
The rooms are set up with the children’s age and stage of development in mind and the focus enables them to explore, develop, learn and create in a way that is right for them. Our nursery staff will ensure that they know each child thoroughly by playing with them and by talking to parents. We plan activities that will engage and interest each child, extend their skills and experience, and of course, make sure they have fun!
Lunch
Lunch is generally around 12.00pm. We understand how important it is to eat in family groupings, talking about our meal, and making it a relaxing and enjoyable time for everyone. The staff eat with the children.
Morning Morning starts with the hustle and bustle of arrivals. Breakfast is offered to the ‘Early Birds’ and our staff are trained to settle children into nursery. Staff ensure they know the children in their care, and will encourage them to join in or select an activity or area of play that they particularly enjoy. This is an important time for sharing information about children to ensure that the staff know how well a child has slept, or whether they have been upset during the morning for any reason. Drinks and healthy snacks are offered to children during the morning.
Sleep time
Younger children are likely to need a sleep during the day. We will always endeavour to allow a child to sleep when they want to, and will also work with parents to establish a routine that suits the need of the child. We set up our rooms so that all children can sleep within a quiet, peaceful, dedicated area. This means children can sleep when they need to and that we are able to supervise them more easily.
Home-time
When parents arrive to take their children home, the staff will make sure they are available to share any information about the children’s day, as well as pass on any important messages.
Partnership with Parents We recognise that parents are their children’s first and most enduring educators and carers. Our aim is to work in close partnership with parents to complement their approach to childcare, particularly to assist children when learning new skills such as toilet training, reading and writing. The closer the parent and nursery team work in partnership, the more rewarding the child’s time in nursery will be.
Parental Peace of Mind – Our Promise to Parents Dovecote Nursery will be the leader in high quality, progressive childcare. We will provide a warm, friendly, happy environment where each child is encouraged to reach their full potential through praise, sensitivity and mutual respect. The nursery door is always open to all parents and carers for informal drop-ins. Parents will also be invited to regular parents meetings to discuss a child’s progress. At the end of each day, parents with younger children will receive a ‘Daily Diary’ containing a brief summary of what the child has eaten, how long they slept for and other relevant information. They will also capture any key moments of the child’s day to share with the family. A detailed profile report will be provided at the end of each term.
Complaints Procedure The feedback of our parents is highly valued. There may be times when parents may question incidents of aspects of the nursery’s operation and normally these will be resolved on an informal basis by a face to face meeting with the teacher or the Nursery Manager. However, if a simple resolution to difficulties is not forthcoming, we operate a complaints procedure that is shared with all parents as a part of their joining pack.
