TREATMENT TITLE: Ink: Nirvana of the mind, body, and soul

CONCEPT WORD: Joy

INCORPIRATION OF WORD WITH PROJECT: In an ever-changing environment, such as Oklahoma, where tattooing only recently became legal (Nov 2006), I wanted to explore why people get tattoos. For many the reason is selfexpression, gaining more self-esteem or reminders of a loved one or an experience. For others it boils down to the appreciation of the art or the pure joy of having a piece of art on their bodies.

FRAMEWORK: Documentary

LOG LINE: The view from industry professionals as well as tattoo collectors on the stigma, acceptance and reasons for getting tattooed and tattooing is explored through interviews and the process of receiving a tattoo.

TREATMENT: The documentary will concentrate on both industry professionals view on the community as well as the perspective of tattoo collectors, on receiving tattoos and living with them. We start out in Studio Ink, where we meet Jimmy Nation, a tattoo artist from Oklahoma. Throughout the process of him tattooing, interviews, with him, other professionals at the studio and tattoo collectors that have no ties to the industry will be weaved in. In these interviews we will get to know why these professionals chose their career, their view on the community that surrounds tattooing, the stigma they may have felt and the acceptance it gave them towards themselves. From the non-professionals we will hear a similar story, but from another perspective, why they get tattooed and the stigma or acceptance they may have found met them from themselves or others.

But that's like way less now because there's so many people that get tattooed like it's like everyone knows someone with a tattoo. It's like almost 90 percent of people in this country have one tattoo.
