Bivio

«Bivio» means «crossroad» in Italian. This volume divides the Münsterhof in two smaller squares: One in front of the Church and the other one in front of the Guildhall. The distinction between those two areas is already discernable today while most of the houses built around the Guildhall are lower than the ones around the Church.

Develope an urban project in the « Münsterhof » of Zürich. Start from the volume, afterwards develope the structure and finally the fassade. Th requirements of the structure are a 200m2 room 2 storeyed and a 400m2 room 3 storeyed. Stegengas se

The building has been thought as a physical separation between both areas of the Münsterhof. However during the day, a fluid movement is maintained through the inner courtyard. Kämbelgasse

The supportive structure corresponds to the pattern of the Diagonals. For the 200 m2 room 3 ribs (which pattern corresponds to the diagonals of the room) ensure the expansion of the space. The ribs lie on the inner supportive walls of the structure. For the 400 m2 room a gable roof ensure the expansion of the space, whose pattern do also refer to the room’s diagona l.

The building offers on the groundfloor a semi-public 2-storeyed space: smaller rooms surround the inner courtyard and connect the two squares to this inner space. At night the entrance and the deep reveal of the windows should ensure sitting places and covered areas for the public.

GSEducationalVersion

The windows are put up in different ways through out the different floor: in the groundfloor are they indoors put up, in the 1st floor coincide with the supportive fassade and in the 2nd floor coincide with the fassade’s structuring elements.

Our expansion is in a direct relation with the existing building, therefore relate strongly to it. The height of each floor as well as the visible pattern of the stone slabs are the same of the existing building. In our extension is the pattern through the form‘s print created.

We wanted the colour to expand from the inside to the outside that’s why we chose Keramik (a material which is mostly used in interior design).

Far from it the existing building is grey and the windows are leveled with the whole fassade (-> lack of plasticity of the existing fassade compared to the surrounding buildings). Therefore we wanted our fassade to relate in a stronger way as the existing fassade to the surrounding buildings. 407.70

An other aspect of the Keramik is its reflective capacity which gives even more plasticity to the fassade.

X Propose a Markethall using a clear structural concept. Which elements are in tension and which ones in compression

ÂŤIsland of compression in an ocean of tensionÂť had once Buckminster Fuller defined this phenomenon.

The Markethall is built out of a tensegrity system. In this kind of system the different rods of the structure cross each other Tragwerksentwurfthemselves. II without touching Markthalle Becuase of tension cables combining the different rods one another, this system does X work. Annamaria Bonzanigo, Bing Liu/K02

Our site was square therefore we decided to work on a symmetric form. This form is composed out of two elements: a base and a cantilever. The repetition of the base-module makes the connexion between the base and the cantilever possible.

The goal of this project was to have as less as possible rods coming to the ground. In this way a free organizable space is created.

The Oak Bar

In order to create a stable woodenstructure, we screwed the different pieces of wood into each other. To close this wooden structure we chose metal sheets.

Using the constructive qualities of the Material Oak propose a Bar for the Bucheggplatz in Zürich. Through our reaserches we learnt oak was a really strong constructive material and at the meantime not one of the cheapest. For this reason we decided to use it in our bar as the supportive element. The structure of this bar is made out of 17 pillars (two of them ensure the stability of the outside stairs)

The contrast created between the metalic covering and the oak aim to emphasize the use of this material in the Bar.

The bar is built on two floors. In the lower one we placed the bar and bar-height bistro tables in order to preserve a fluid movement in the bar’s ground floor.

For us the «Bucheggplatz » was one of the crossing points of the everyday’s life of a Zürich habitant. Therefore we wanted our bar to be a box from where the visitor could admire this everyday’s scene of this square.

In the upper one we decided to build Niche from where the visitor could admire from an higher level the everyday’s life of the people walking through Bucheggplatz.

Das Ideal Which term would you define an IDEAL? Choose your Ideal, read about it in order to understand why you perceive it as an IDEAL. Represent your Ideal in an abstracted way and develop out of it and architectural project.

My Ideal is Rock. As a child I would always jump and play in the rocks of South Italy. I was fascinated from those forms, which year after year always seemed to be different. The uncontrollable force of the water, splashing against them, was the cause of their constant change.

My project for this task was a concert hall. The uncontrollable force is the human being which through its jumps, weight, contact with the space would tranform it. For this to be possible I invented a material which was a mixture of sand and glue. As you touch it grains of sand would fall away.

This uncontrollable force, this constant change, the creation of those new forms/spaces was my IDEAL. A space which suits to the movements of the human being will progressively be formed.

Das Vertraute

Looking to this space more abstratically, this space was composed from a floor (leaves and earth), pillars (Three trunks) and a roof (tree’s branches). We liked the atmosphere of the place, the silent. It was as if the only thing that could come trough and invade the space was the light. But as it is now the reflection of the light on the floor is not so clear.

Choose a familiar place, analyse it and recognize its spatial qualities. Afterwards restructure this place in order to underline the spatial qualities you observed.

With my Partner we decided to work on a piece of forest situated close to my house in Zürich (-> Schwandenholz 8052 Zürich). We started measuring the trees and drew a plan of the zone we delimited. It was an artificially planted forest, so there was a recognizable order between the trees. Because of this order the branches of the trees (which were almost without any leaves when we developed the project) would look like arches as they meet each other.

Querschnitt 1:25 Querschnitt 1:25

Làngsschnitt 1:25 Làngsschnitt 1:25

Through the different thickness of the trees’ trunks different lights effects were created in this space: where the trunks were thiner there was more light coming in and vice versa.

We didn’t want to destroy any tree. We wanted to demonstrate that through the elevation and the lowering of a floor a space could be perceived in a completely different way.

Street Objects

!

Porpose an artistic project, whatever you want.

I‘ve been picking up objects from the floor during a month. I wasn‘t looking for them, they just appeared to my feet walking arount the streets. The day ofSTRASSENOBJEKTE: the presentation I lay down on the floor those objects, approximatively in the Ein Monat. same way Heb I found them. Objekten von der Strasse auf.

One Month. Pick up objects in the street. Don’t look for them. They must come to you. Take only the ones which are meanigful to you.

Such sie nicht.

Sie müssen dir kommen. Between each objectzuand the floor I placed a Nimm die, für dich bedeutungsvoll sind. piece of paper on die which I had written some of my reactions as I found those objects. For exemple for the Sock: „ I would have never dared myself to touch it with my proper hands.“

The people were walking around the space and were discovering the objects as I discovered them. But besides it they also knew my own reaction. Giving a meaning to those objects was not for me the answer of this project. Everything can be interpreted in a different way. What I wanted to do was to share a personal experience with other people in a way that they could understand it/feel it. „It is a human trait to want to organize things into categories, inventing categories creates an illusion that there is an overriding rationale in the way that the world works.“ « It is a human trait to want to organize things into categories, inventing categories creates an illusion that there is an overriding rationale in the way that the world works. »
