What have NGOs been doing to help different communities facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic? India went into a nationwide lockdown in March 2020 to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. As citizens of the country prepared to stay at home and navigate through the new normal, NGOs of India began to brace themselves for the battle ahead. Here are some of the ways in which the social and charitable organizations of India have worked relentlessly since then to safeguard a wide range of communities against the terrible effects of the pandemic and the lockdowns. Migrant and daily wage workers: In the initial stages of the pandemic, innumerable daily wage workers were forced to relocate due to the lockdown and sudden termination from their jobs. This loss of income amidst the spread of the virus amounted to a wave of distress across the country. food ngos in india stood up to support these individuals by providing necessary food, water, protective gear, and shelter. Organizations also arranged for travel arrangements for many workers to safely move back to their ethnic towns or villages. Residents living in marginal areas: Citizens residing in destitute areas because especially vulnerable during the pandemic, as they lost their sources of income and access to necessities. NGOs sprung into action to provide essentials such as food in the form of cooked, warm meals as well as ration packets containing daily requirements for sustenance. Protective equipment such as masks and sanitizers were also distributed. Another important step taken by NGOs was to set up isolation and treatment centers within marginalized areas to prevent the spread of the virus. Orphaned children: Records show that lakhs of children have been orphaned since the onset of the pandemic as their parents either succumbed to the disease or fled from the area. These orphaned children are handed over to care agencies or NGOs after approval from the Government. Organizations take on the role of primary caretakers and provide young children with necessary nourishment, quality healthcare, and a protective environment to live in.

Many communities have been the collateral victims of the pandemic, whose struggled tend to go unnoticed. With new variants of the virus emerging and an impending third wave, struggles faced around the country are only likely to increase. Online Donation
