a water park
A WAT E R PARK
Located on the Grand River in the heart of Galt, this park seeks to re-connect the public to the river. By softening the river wall and extending the boundaries of the river towards the city, the park offers a welcoming opportunity to descend into the water. Integrating a natural pool, which filters water from the Grand River, this park improves the water quality and reduces stigma about interacting with the river. A combination of pump and gravity fed fountains express the movement of water through the series of filtration beds before it reaches a public swimming pool. Recycled rubberized surfaces integrated with vegetation beds creates a landscape meant for running, jumping, and exploring. The plant selection is textural, leafy, and colourful, encouraging a hands-on approach to discovery and imagination.

The project’s aim is to strengthen the relationship that local inhabitants have with the Grand River. The acts of sculpting and layering materials tactically expand the riparian zone towards the urban context of Galt, inviting life to take root along the banks of the river.

OUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE
Of the many crisis we face as a collective today, the housing and climate crises can be found at the forefront of the architectural discourse. This project’s aim is to provide solutions to the issues surrounding these paradigms, while carefully considering even those who go unnoticed among statistics. In particular, the “hidden homeless” population in includes those who do not have access to adequate or permanent housing, but are not accessing housing services. Located along Sherbourne Street in Toronto’s Downtown East, this project is comprised of a cooperative housing assemblage for single women and women with families experience homelessness. Along with residential accommodations, the site incorporates services and resources to reach individual and community goals. Reflective of these qualities, infill was prioritized as a sustainable method of maintaining a visual connection to the historic street face, while a visually-open patio space extends into the site alongside a joyfully curated landscape.

A south-facing, 60m long greenhouse provides residents and community members the opportunity to grow fresh produce, reducing cost of food and demand for off-site produce shipments.

Shared kitchen, dining, and living spaces allow for cross-ventilation across the wall-to-wall apartments. Bedrooms become sub-units, each with access to exterior and interior windows for ventilation.
The building envelope is comprised of pre-cast panels, which reduces on-site construction waste and allows for fast and accurate assembly through the development of modular units (above).

The apartments are designed as both a secure and supportive environment. Each apartment houses up to 9 residents, with defined bedrooms, adjacent bathrooms, and common areas.
Individuals are given control over the spatial quality and transparency of their own bedroom space, including adding multiple exits, or a series of windows look onto the shared common space.

creature
C R E AT U R E
This project is designed in a near-future image of our cities, where architecture has been driven by mundane, mass-production. Creature exists to bring texture and colour back into the built environment, re-imagining how parts can be fused together, layered, rotated and reflected. Creature explores the concept of the ascent. One’s journey through the structure is winding; passing through layers of steel, glass, and fabric, the tension created from the unknown path ahead is softened by the moments where one can view fragments of the familiar city. When the pilgrimage to the top of the structure is complete, clear views back out into the city are revealed. In this, Creature serves to juxtapose and compliment the city, allowing people to look back on their city in a new light.

SHARED SPACE
Shared Space is a four-person student residence that meets both the private life needs of the individual and welcomes the greater community through its form and functions. The building features a multipurpose space which can be used as a living room for the residents, a community space for additional students, or as a venue for small community events. A glass façade allows plenty of light to enter the multi-purpose space and reveals the sculptural form that resides there. The sculptural form – which also functions as seating on the ground level and a railing on the second floor – reaches upward, emphasizing the verticality of the narrow space. The private quarters of the building rest above, distinct from the public and semi-private spaces below. The compact bedrooms feature high ceilings to create a loft-like retreat for each individual student.

This library is located in Toronto’s Junction. In the midst of the bustling city, the library behaves as a human-made park where individuals and groups can learn, create and share. The roof’s unique structure is a nod to the local art scene. It behaves as a large pavilion, supported by tree-like columns. Within these columns, various program spaces are organized, and where additional privacy or sound control is required, glass and woodclad rooms are employed. The site’s natural topography gives way to a sunken theatre space on the south end, which provides a retreat from noise and traffic while maintain views of tree- and building-tops through clerestory windows.

Negotiating the space between a residential neighbourhood and a bustling commercial zone, the library’s programmatic elements are arranged to reflect this (below). The grand performance space is placed towards Dupont, where the most vehicular and pedestrian traffic occurs, reflecting the lively happenings outside. The collection spaces are orientated towards the residential neighbourhood, away from the bustle of the city, providing a retreat for learning.

Mixed-Use Affordable Housing Design Visualization
Haldimand Central Administration Building Fire Safety Plans
Role:
Role:
Tools:
I collaborated with senior and intermediate staff to develop 3D model for a proposed 14-story mixeduse affordable housing building. I also completed extensive post-render work in Photoshop to transform elements of the building to better reflect the client’s vision. Both of these tasks were completed under tight proposal submission deadline, which we met. SketchUp, Photoshop.

Tools:
Tasked with creating a series of Fire Safety Plans to be located in the building, I complied the necessary information from mechanical, electrical, and civil drawings. Ensuring graphic clarity, I edited existing construction drawings for graphic clarity, adding appropriate notation. AutoCAD, Illustrator.
