All upholstery pieces have arms to embrace the multigenerational approach; that elder residents may get in and out of chairs easily.

A multigenerational approach has been utilized to create a modern loft inspired home with a rustic industrial feel featuring the latest FF&E. Proper adjacencies and spatial analyses have been implemented into the design to best accommodate client needs. The openness of the floor plan gives this interior an airy, minimalistic feeling, thus making it flexible, efficient, and comfortable. The exposed walls and ceilings accentuate the modern loft style and visually enhance the space by adding interest, beauty, and charm. A broad range of warm hues creates a hint of romance and establishes a homely atmosphere while cool hues keep the space lively and exciting. Lastly, a 3D model has been made to better help clients visualize their space.

The clients are Mr. Paul Harper (36) and Mrs. Amanda Harper (34); he is a professional Chef who owns a restaurant in the Restaurant Row in the Chicago’s West Loop and she is a professional dancer who works part time with a Ballet Company in Downtown Chicago. The Harpers hired us to design and lay out their apartment as their permanent residence combined with a small Dance School for children that Mrs. Harper wants to start. The Harpers like to entertain, Mr. Harper especially likes to cook for their friends, as well as having a large collection of wines. They want their apartment to be open and spacious with natural light in all the private and social areas of the apartment. They want to utilize their space efficiently, creating an open layout that takes advantage of the high ceilings, the sunlight, and the stunning views. They want us to take advantage of the double interior height to create mezzanines to increase the floor area and at the same time to create some privacy without full height walls that enclose the space. Minimum requirements include:

TROP KITCHEN

1) Ceiling height cabinets 2) Stainless Steel appliances 3) Bar counter with seating 4) Transitional feeling 5) Ample task lighting

Concept Statement

This transitional kitchen boasts a sleek contemporary flare combined with traditional design. It serves as a warm and welcoming space suitable for preparing meals as well as entertaining guests. It is designed for a small family of three who wish to entertain on certain occasions. Although the kitchen is rather small, it can comfortably accomodate multiple guests during social gatherings. Maximum food preparation space and plentiful seating consisting of a bar counter fit for three and informal dining area will allow for social gatherings and are thoughtfully incorporated into the design. The layout corresponds to the NKBA kitchen planning guidelines maximizing the functionality of the space. The kitchen is designed around the work triangle guideline with special consideration to the proper placement of the refrigerator, stove, and sink. The work triangle guideline states that work centers (ie. refrigerator, stove, and sink) should not be less than 4’ and no more than 9’ apart from each other with barriers between them. The original layout of this kitchen violated this guideline with one of the distances exceeding 9’. To correct this, refrigerator drawers have been placed midway between the sink and standing refrigerator. Not only is this more convenient to the client, but it also allows for more refrigeration space. Additionally, careful planning considerations have been made so there is sufficient walking space of at least 42” surrounding the work centers. Task lighting has been carefully thought out and has proven to be a vital consideration in this design while creating a visually appealing space. Recessed can fixtures have been placed in such a way that creates a nice wall wash on the cabinet while beautiful transitional pendant fixtures illuminate the counter. The end result of this transformed kitchen is one that is visually stunning. The combination of traditional and contemporary elements makes this a transitional kitchen that provides comfort, accessibility, and functionality to anyone who utilizes the space.

MOROCCAN DESIGN

This project involved collaborative teamwork to create a modern Moroccan themed Master Bathroom following NKBA Guidelines.

Moroccan Bathroom NKBA Guidelines Followed: • •

• • •

• •

• •

The clear space at doorways should be at least 32” (81cm) wide and not more than 24” (61cm) deep in the direction of travel. Walkways (passages between vertical objects greater than 24” (61cm) deep in the direction of travel), should be a minimum of 36” (91cm) wide. A minimum clear floor space of 30” x 48” (76cm x 122cm) either parallel or perpendicular should be provided at the lavatory. A minimum clear floor space of 48” x 48” (122cm x 122cm) should be provided in front of the toilet. A minimum of 16” (41cm) of that clear floor space must extend to each side of the centerline of the fixture. The minimum clear floor space at a bath tub is 60” (152cm) wide x 48” (122cm) deep for a perpendicular approach. Clear floor spaces required at each fixture may overlap. Space for turning (mobility aids) 180-degrees should be planned in the bathroom. A minimum diameter of 60” (152cm) for 360-degrees turns and/or a minimum T-turn space of 36” (91cm) x 36” (91cm) x 60” (152cm). In an enclosed shower, the minimum usable interior dimensions are 34” (86cm) x 34” (86cm). These dimensions are measured from wall to wall. Grab bars, controls, movable and folding seats do not diminish the measurement. Showers should include a bench or seat that is 17”-19” (43cm-48cm) above the floor and a minimum of 15” (38cm) deep. The toilet paper holder should be installed within reach of a person seated on the toilet. Ideal location is slightly in front of the edge of the toilet bowl, centered at 26” (66cm) above the floor. All flooring should be slip resistant. Every functional area in the bathroom should be well illuminated by appropriate task lighting, night lights and/or general lighting. No lighting fixture, including hanging fixtures, should be within reach of a person seated or standing in the tub/shower area

Moroccan historical references were incorporated into the design of this stool.

Moroccan Stool

This stool draws its inspiration from old and modern Moroccan furniture design customs. The stool itself is constructed of solid Cedar wood, a material that is often used in Moroccan furniture. The overal design features bright Moroccan colors such as red, gold, and blue. Theese colors are not only colorful and exciting, but they are also inviting and comfortable. Horeshoe arches are commonly seen throughout Morocco. With this in mind, horeseshoe arches have been incorporated into the legs of the stool. The legs are embellished in gold metal which is another element popular to Moroccan furniture design. Lastly, because much Moroccan furniture sits low to the ground, this stool sits just fifteen inches above the ground. All of these Moroccan elements work together to create a visually stunning accent piece. Inspirational Photos

Concept Statement

Aspire is an artistic social media design firm geared towards assisting clientele with finding the career of their dreams in areas such as music, media, fashion, advertising, and film. Aspire, by definition, means to direct ones hopes or dreams towards achieving something; to have great ambition. The objective is to keep staff and clientele as driven and energized as possible by designing a visually stimulating and highly efficient work space.

This lively office interior boasts a simplistic modern design with an open floor plan that is functional to both staff and clientele. Designed around the firm’s slogan, “Follow Your Dreams,” the design features arrows and clouds which are emphasized by angled and curved walls, as well as unique ceiling elements. The combination of an open floor plan with a mixture of different ceiling, floor, and wall elements encourages easy wayfinding through the space. A sense of liveliness and excitement is achieved through the use of fun shapes and bright colors that work together to promote positive attitudes and ambition in the work place. Proper adjacencies have been carefully implemented into this design creating utmost convenience to staff members and its open floorplan allows for easy wheelchair access. The reception and large conference room have been conveniently located near the break area, and manager offices are positioned in such a way where they can oversee staff members. Public and private areas have easy flow while incorporating function without visual or acoustical disruption. The open workspaces utilize systems furniture for easy reconfiguration and expansion.

The overall design embraces a vivid triadic color scheme of red, yellow, and blue which becomes instantly evident upon entering the firm. Monochromatic color schemes of these colors are used in different areas throughout the space to add interest and encourage easy wayfinding. Unique geometric ceiling elements, distinct flooring, and light wood tones have been chosen to give this space a modern appeal.

Sustainable energy concepts have been adapted into this office environment. Low emitting furnishings, flooring, and low-VOC paints have been chosen that contribute to LEED standards. Energy efficient LED light fixtures, abundant day lighting, and energy saving appliances cut down on overall electrical cost.

THE VENUE

Typical restaurant environments are high traffic areas. For this reason, all furniture pieces chosen are hospitality rated.

The Venue, centralized in Leicester Square, London’s home of cinematography, boasts a sleek, elegant, and innovative design. Drawn from the inspiration of a film reel, the layout features many curved architectural elements to create a beautifully flowing space with great aesthetic appeal. A monochromatic violet color palette mixed with various shades of white and black has been chosen to accentuate the existing hotel lobby of the W Hotel. These colors work together to create a lively and alluring space. Large scale furniture has been selected to accentuate the design style of the hotel. This furniture will accentuate existing pieces in the hotel lobby and create a loungelike environment guaranteed to give customers a luxurious culinary experience.

The design solution embraces universal design concepts and accessibility guidelines for a typical hospitality environment. The space demonstrates a clear understanding of how interior design impacts human behaviors such as occupant well-being, anthropometrics, and performance. Design selections are appropriate for these criteria. Careful design considerations have been made to make this an easily accessible space for those with disabilities. The plans graphically identify installation methods and detail notes of products and materials for this restaurant.
