Fragility Since the 20th century, more and more women have been giving up childbearing, and the global birth rate has approached a freezing point. However, their will is not respected by the world, and compulsory birth laws have been introduced around the world.
Obligated childcare one day a week... The advancement of technology has created conditions for Embrace to respect women's wishes, and artificial wombs have freed people from childbirth. The First Artificial Womb Park has been launched around the world. If the park succeeds, its scale will be applied to cities.

Suprematism: Under Soviet Collectivism The world in the novel is highly collectivized, much like the Soviet Union in the 1960s. This era gave rise to many unique art movements, including Suprematism. Suprematism is characterized by the combination of bright geometric shapes, which also had a profound influence on architecture. Therefore, this project will start with Kandinsky's paintings to explore geometric forms.

Circles & Squares Circles and squares are representative geometric patterns in Suprematism paintings. In my project, I distorted and recombined two-dimensional and threedimensional circles and squares to form a highly centralized park. The consistency of geometric language symbolizes the high similarity of individual life in a collectivist context: the park looks very rich, but the core of life is not.
The Condensed Numerous geometric structures are compressed within the park, symbolizing the diverse and intensive activities taking place in the area. People's lives are highly communal, sharing fully functional public spaces and social resources within the park. This project aims to provide the community with comprehensive living conditions through the provision of fully functional public spaces, sustainable housing solutions, and innovative urban design. It aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by creating a wellrounded living environment.

Passive Heating
Compared to solar energy collection, wind power generation is more suitable for this project.
Blocks consist of large sunspace and trombe wall. The south elevation is full glazed to maximize the daylight intake, and the materials are of high thermal mass, such as concrete. So the building absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night.

City Pattern Sepreation of production, life, and consumption The vernacular housing type in Gusu District is courtyard houses with one or two floors. This causes the problem of dampness and darkness, as well as insufficent housing supply. Therefore, I propose a high rise to deal with the above issues; meanwhile keep the original taste of traditional buildings.
Large commercial districts are basically located outside Gusu District, and the distance from places of work and residence to places of entertainment such as cafes and museums is usually more than 8km. If the two can be combined, the efficiency of urban life can be greatly enhanced. The production method in Gusu District is dominated by handicrafts, especially the production of Suzhou fans. Such a production mode can be introduced into the project to maximize the convenience brought by the dense raw material suppliers around the site.

workshop + residence complex - the transformation of Suzhou courtyard houses Type: Studio Work (individual) Time: 2021.9 - 2021.12 Instructor: Dongfang Xie Location: Suzhou, China Floorage: 10,800 sq.m. The layout of houses and streets in the old city of Suzhou can be traced back to before the Song Dynasty, but today, production, residence, and consumption present a fragmented layout in the giant city.
a complex including workshops, shops, libraries, open spaces and residential units, etc., designed to attract more diverse users and balance the use of different sites time.
The double inefficiency is undoubtedly anti-modern. Therefore, I reviewed and studied the block prototype of the "front shop and back square" in the Song Dynasty, and reproduced my thinking in the housing project. I refer to Jane Jacobs's "efficient mixed-use urban place":
As a result, a new modern block plane type was iterated from the blocks in the Song Dynasty, and was further translated into a super high-rise tower in the form of a section.

I translate the courtyard house into a new pattern based on the conclusions drawn from the study. The plan becomes a cluster of different programmes that is able to hold people from all walks of life. This potential to link people together is represented by the concept of social condenser proposed in 1928, which encourages residents to conduct commual activities.Subsequently, the plan is translated into a section, to solve the problem of accommodation, daylight, and dampness, as well a s to e n co ra ge i nte r p e rs o n a l interaction.

kindergarten design - the negative response to street battles
Lifted Block Once the volume is lifted, people can bend down and see whether someone is hiding behind it.
Type: Studio Work (individual) Time: 2022.3 - 2022.6 Instructor: Dongfang Xie Location: Kyiv, Ukraine Floorage: 2,100 sq.m. The full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine broke out in February 2022. After invading many major cities in Ukraine, street fighting has become one major means of warfare for Russian troops. However, in street battles, numerous civilian facilities were occupied for military use, leaving citizens nowhere safe to live. It was frequently reported that innocent people were injured or died due to this reason.
Full Glazed Transparency allows nobody to hide inside, so it naturally loses the value in street battles.
7
Based on the above phenomenon, I tried to design a building that is valueless in warfare, so that it can function as a shelter in the special time. I analyzed the street battle movement first, and then use architectural language to respond to it in the opposite way, so as to reduce the chance that it is captured in wars. Affecting the distance between different groups of people, architecture becomes the media that can contribute to social welfare.
Chamfered Floor Users cannot reach the edge of the floor, so that there will be more blind area when looking on the street.
21
8
Bending Deformed floor restricts the usage of areas close to the floor edge, so more blind space can be created.
Vault Roofs are of military importance, but vaults can prevent soldiers from taking use of the roof.
9
Slider Stairs can be blocked by iron wires when street fights happen, but sliders cannot. It is an escape route.

A large activity space is provided to allow children to have fun and make friends.
Classrooms are in different volumes, leaving the open space for children to play.
Interior Looks
Atrium The slider extends into the atrium, providing children with a convenient route to go downstairs.
Bridge The bridge connects the funfair, the core tube, and the bedroom; and it overlooks the second floor.
Classroom The classroom has no window towards the outside, but a skylight as the daylight source.

daily abandoned cats
Background Research
global google search for adoptable cats (weekly trend)
The project provides a platform for homeless cats to find new home, solving the confict between the action of abanding pets and the demand to adopt pets.
Design Strategy
Climbing Space Cats like to climb. So I planned a three-dimentional circulation for this animal to have fun. The red axis indicate the orientation of "room", which are lied according to a grid system.
Cat Space Along the red axis, there is the space serving for the cats. They are shells with hollowed space inside, where different facilities can be put in so the spaces function differently.
Human-Cat Space A series of larger geometries are generated by rotating the cat space along the red axis, so the new space fits for human scale. It provides chances for people to interact with cats, and the varied shapes invide people to interact in various gestures.
Enclosure A cube is put on to cover the previous geometries, and it is cut by the human-cat space. This ensured that during the night, the pavillion can be enclosed, so it protects cats from city lights pollution, and prevents them from getting lost again.
04
Cat Box
pop-up cat cafe - a sustainable media helping abandoned cats to find new homes Type: Studio Work (individual) Time: 2022.6 - 2022.9 Instructor: Jingjun Li Location: A square with large traffic flow Floorage: 81 sq.m. On the one hand, the epidemic control has stimulated people's desire for companionship, and a large number of people are eager to buy pets. On the other hand, isolation has prevented some people from keeping pets. As a result, the number of abandoned animals is increasing, overwhelming the pet market, animal rescue, and city administration. To this end, I proposed a plan to adopt abandoned
animals, and designed an openable pop-up cat cafe to be placed in a square with a large traffic flow, providing a variety of interactive spaces for people and cats. As the cafe itself is profitable, the cats can "earn a living" themselves without the animal rescue agency. The project offers people with a platform for communication, provides a channel for stray cats to find a new home, and also reduces the pressure on city management.

A series of experiments is conducted regarding the units of boxes, the rotating objects, and the location of axis. A combination of all the possibilities are applied to the final pavillion, and then I give each of them an appropriate function that matches with its geometry.
The large box consists of four blocks that are connected by hinges, with wheels below. The box is opened by rotating the blocks, and subsequently, smaller facilities inside each block can be again rotated to function as a certain furniture, for example, tables, seats, and so on. The rotating process turns the box from a closed status to an open status, welcoming people to interact with the pavilion itself and the lovely cats inside.

Site Accessibility metro station 1
Studio Work (individual) 2022.9 - 2022.12 Dongfang Xie Chengdu, China 120,000 sq.m.
In Chengdu, where I live, an ancient royal tomb was accidentally discovered on the football field at the center of a completed stadium, which further led to the abandonment of the 80,000-seat stadium. The predecessor of the gymnasium was the royal tomb, and before the royal tomb was a garden. The new functions and forms have been superimposed with the renewal of the city, and the contradictions of different historical periods have
also been deposited together to form the same building itself, so neither burying the ruins nor demolishing the stadium will solve the problem.
site
"Solution" cannot solve the problem, so I tried to superimpose a new "contradiction" in the way of functional intervention in the already contradictory site, making it a super complex of city events, to re-serve the current city and history with a new function.
Tianfu Square metro station 2
28
The project site is located in the center of Chengdu, with two entrances connected to two main roads. It is very convenient to reach the venue by car, bus, and subway. In such location, the urban function of the site is very inefficient as it is open to the archaeological team only. Therefore, it is my goal to reactivate the site and let it reopen to the public, and to building a connection between Chengdu history with the citizens.
