Green Dot Week
Introduction The Green Dot program is built on the premise that if a community wants to measurably reduce power-based personal violence (sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking), a cultural shift is necessary. To make that shift possible, Green Dot equips bystanders to recognize and potentially halt instances of sexual coercion and other forms of power-based violence using a variety of intervention strategies (direct, delegate, distract). This approach helps all members of our community learn how to replace red dots – moments in time when someone attempts to hurt another with their words or actions – with green dots. Green Dots are a choice - a small action an individual makes to combat and prevent power-based personal violence on our Grounds. When we all do our part, Green Dots will overtake the red, making our community a safer one. Our goal is simple – to spread the message that
1) Violence will not be tolerated at UVa 2) Everyone is expected to do their part to make our Grounds safe.
From February 3rd-10th, students, faculty and staff around Grounds are working together to spread awareness about the program and encourage everyone in our community to get involved. »» Overview Talks: Student organizations on grounds have partnered with Green Dot volunteers to deliver 45 minute Overview Talks where you can learn more about Green Dot. Click here for more specific times and locations. »» Bystander Training: Our first student training of 2016 is Friday 2/5 and there are still a few spaces available. If you can’t make it this week, check out our other student trainings for the Spring (2/19, 2/28, 3/18, 3/25, 4/3). Include linkes in your posts.
