Stillaguamish Village Future Housing Community Master Plan, Parks Plan, & Phasing Plan
Desiring to rebuild their dispersed community, the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians is developing an 80 Acre site to provide services, amenities, and housing. This project weaves cultural values, native resilient landscapes and sustainable solutions in a long-term phased development. Phase one has single family homes, multi-family young adult homes, a canoe workshop, wellness center, elder assisted living, elder cottages, and a native stories inspired park system. Youth are one of the most underserved populations in the nation. This project is the first in Tacoma to provide safe temporary shelter, housing, and supportive services for young adults experiencing homelessness. The programming and design encourages therapeutic activities such as gardening and basketball. Kintsugi is a Japanese art form that mends broken pottery with gold lacquer, and articulates that the piece has become more beautiful because of its history. This student design build honors the past, present, and future generations of Japanese culture in America.
