Parliamentary Annex, Amman, Jordan. Client: Jordanian parliament. Spring 2012

Graduation project, Location: Amman, Jordan. Supervised student: Rami Saad.

In May 2011, I proposed this project for my graduation project students. Ten students adopted my

project; each worked on their individual design ideas for a parliament that best represents its society. Soon after, the Arab Spring came about and this project became the top design idea among all other 100 projects presented that academic year ending in May 2012. This student’s project received the first rank among all others. Concept: A parliament echoes ideologies and conceptions of a country blended with notions of democracy and development. In terms of contextual location, the parliament may be perceived as a national and public landmark, rendering itself as a cultural and social magnet; attracting rather than

repelling auras of the public. In terms of spaces, the parliament caters blindly to its constituents’ needs, spaces within and around are distinguished essential entities. Finally the parliament is for its public representing them to the fullest in utmost transparency.

site area and a very steep slope. The new location for the association was part of an associations city where the law association, the nursing association, the medicine association and many others surround the engineering association. A total built-up area of about 15,000m2 was to be built for the engineering association on 2,700m2 with a special land shape (right).

Dormitories for College Students, Irbid, Jordan. Yarmouk University campus vicinity. Fall 2011 Project by my students: Osama, Muath, & Hanna respectively.

The students did some research on walkability, accessibility and time/distance analysis for college students at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Yarmouk University, and Jordan University in Amman. They have found a problem with the allocation of housing. The first two universities in the city of Irbid have over 50,000 students currently, 10,000 of which are international students. The demand on proper housing is escalating especially in Jordan due to many regional forecasts. This project is focused on allocating proper housing for students. The students searched the city of Irbid and were able to allocate 5 prospect sites where each site can host about 2,000 students. In Amman they allocated two sites in the vicinity of the Jordan University with the same capacity for each. All sites are almost vacant and within walking distance to campus. 21
