VISUAL Exhibition at Galería Krabbe, - opening onThursday, September the 8th, 6pm. 2016.

Less than a year ago, I received an invitation from Anne Juul Christophersen, to participate in the group exhibition she curated. Participants included 15 emerging artists from the Danish art scene. The architectural framework was Æglageret, an ancient egg warehouse in the old town of Holbæk, about 60 km from the city of Copenhagen. And so it was that I found myself there, on the 12th of March 2016, under the heavy, cloudy sky, so typical of the North. At the opening I met my fellow participants, and heard the inaugural speech by the art historian Trine Ross. The gallery was located in the attic of the old warehouse, white walls in the makeshift showroom, under the exposed wooden beam gables. It was a very friendly atmosphere and the architectural contrast to the exhibited work was a visual experience itself. High standard paintings, collages and sculptures of very different styles were successfully arranged in a poetic and balanced manner. Anne Juul Christophersen did an excellent job of selecting the artists, who all contributed very interesting works, and striking techniques. Sculptures made by combining porcelain and branches, pictures painted by the traditional brush or spray, or a combination of these, collages showing contemporary social realism, and imaginary universes reflected on the canvases. Enough material to immerse the viewer for hours. Soon after returning to Spain from my native country, satisfied with what I had seen and happy to have been part of that constellation of artists, it occurred to me that I could invite the group to exhibit in Galería Krabbe in Frigiliana. Luckily, Anne Juul Christophersen - and the other artists in the group, thought it was a great idea. And this is how the exhibition of Danish artists, VISUAL, got to Krabbe Galería in Frigiliana. We all have our own individual perception of the world, deeply affected by what we have experienced through life. We all live in the same world, but reality is different for each one of us. Reality is individual. We perceive. We get impressions. We see what we want to see and sometimes we see, what we do not want to see. We each have our own reality. To be able to understand this world that we all share, - to be able to understand and to accept other people´s individual realities, we must first dare to open our minds, see within ourselves and try to understand ourselves and our own individual reality. The exhibiting artists in the exhibition “VISUAL” all have in common, that they dare see within themselves and portray what they find. They visualize their own individual “reality” and show it in their artworks, so others can observe it, relate to it, get inspired by it and maybe even rejoice or become heavy hearted by it. The artists and their artworks at the “VISUAL” exhibition have not been selected by colors or appearance with the intent of creating a beautiful and well balanced experience for the exhibition´s visitors, just like reality is not always a beautiful and well balanced experience. Instead the artists and their artworks have been selected because of the depth of their artworks and the deep traces, their visual expressions leave in the beholder. Without condemning or preaching, the exhibition “VISUAL” shows the exhibiting artist´s individual realities and their relations with each other in this world, we all have in common. It is the first time this particular group of artists exhibit together in Spain.

Rasmus Bjørn

Rasmus has during the last years primarily been working with paintings. Sometimes in a installationary context. Rasmus Bjørn shows paintings that let's the eye glance and wander through the near and nature and disappear through the woods and out into the endless horizon. The staging of a melancholy world stresses a new romantic story in his works. The scenography of the lonely human, the outskirts, the deserted mysterious landscape and the slumbering drama all together creates a Nordic fairytale in his works. Between dusk and the natural framework, on the quiet human storm, Rasmus is creating a mood of deep emotions and big ideas .

Anne Juul Christophersen

Anne Juul Christophersen lets a little girl act as her own, as well as the beholder´s alter ego, in the wonderful scenarios she has created. There are memories and inspirations from folklore, A.A. Milne and a thousand other stories. The dangerous bear is huge and yet kind and the paintings are full of pheasants, hens and rabbits. Fairy tales and lived life on all emotional switches. The artist has hugely evolved her technique as well as her artistic expression in an intriguing direction. She plays, duplicates, she creates details or ornamental patterns. Pabi Chulo Kim René manifests in many forms, has many destinies, stories and syndromes. You know them, you find them, you have them, you get them. Perhaps! You take distance. You give them to others. The neighbor's daughter. Those outside the border. Those who do not believe in you. A part of you! Kim René has no gender, no religion, no nationality, no political correctness. But got its origins in a modern capitalistic welfare-society-understanding. Kim René asks questions about individual individuality, movements of the messes and the structural order. Kim René is basically computer created, fictional, a piece of art, a painted surface. Androgynous, pan-romantic, universal. Kim René is an evolutionarily traveler of its time. An impression, a movement, a feeling, a state, a fragment of a holistic wholeness. Kim René is a player in a fictional drama series in the role as a masked polymorphic antihero who attacks reality. Kim René is a mental mannequin dressed up in human aspects. Kim René may move in time, in any plateaus, all inclined planes, all floors. Also when you are in the basement. Kim René exists and breaths only because of you. Kim René carries a message, perhaps caused by your interpretation. Kim René stands outside but remains inside. Kim René can go through you. . Kim René could be you! 12

Niels Corfitzen There is no doubt that Niels Corfitzens paintings are the results of daily observations of life and the events that follow. In this process it is not unusual that there is a filtration taking place – that creates the artist’s identity in the universe that represents the diversity of visual arts. His paintings balances between an ambitious classical idiom and mantras from a modern culture, which thematizes the contemporary and civilized man's life and problems, often set in the prospect of a decaying world. With its unnatural environments and colorful galleries of personalities, the artist creates a state of mind and an underlying concern in relation to our traditional conception of the classic oil painting. On the surface the paintings appear as small stills or scenes from a self-obsessed and ruined youth, who fight for the audience attention. A game with light and contrasts creates a concentrated presence and draw references back to the great masters such as Edward Hopper, PS Krøyer and Antonio Lopez Garcia. The paintings are created in many layers that allow the artist to have a dialogue with the work as it unfolds, which causes the process to appear naked to the observer. This method seems to create a pixelated and technological expression.

Niels Corfitzen (1980) grew up in Sweden surrounded by the country’s splendid nature. He has also lived several years in England, but today he has his base in Copenhagen Denmark. This clash of nature and culture is often depicted in his works. Niels has received schooling in arts throughout his youth, as the artist trade runs in the family line, but apart from that he is an autodidact artist. His works has been exhibited in museums throughout Scandinavia and is represented by several galleries in northern Europe. He has also received much recognition for the many commissioned portraits he has on his CV, including the award-winning portrait of the Danish politician Svend Auken from 2009, which was used as cover for his autobiography – written by Hans Mortensen

Tine Helleshøj

Sensual, clever, rock'n roll – are all words that have been used to describe Copenhagen based Tine Helleshøj’s bold, individualistic style.
 At the age of 20, after attending several art schools, her career was jumpstarted by winning the first price at a curated exhibition, shown on Danish National television in 1998. Since then she has been working as a professional artist shown in several galleries throughout Denmark as well as art fairs across the world.
 Working in mixed mediums such as gouache, spray paint, stencils and oil painted characters –Helleshøj’s nostalgic pop images of sexy pin up girls and macho men set against bold and colorful detailed backgrounds exude an aesthetic that is both joy-filled and mesmerizing at the same time. She weaves her characters stories spontaneously, eschewing obvious social statements, instead focusing on captivating imagery that brings a smile to the viewer ́ s lips. She is not inspired by any certain direction in art but finds her inspiration in urban life.
 Her ” joie de vivre” approach to art has earned her a large following since her debut in 1998, appealing to a wide audience of art enthusiasts and casual admirers alike. 17

Claes Otto Jennow In my work with collages, I often consider the rearmost paper, on which I glue my objects, as the stage where the story unfolds. In this particular series of collages, I have composed a number of my collages and drawings as the scenery and wrapped it up with the stage curtains from old cardboard theaters. The stage curtains are from old classics such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jeppe On the Mountain etc. This way my series of collages “The Stage Curtains”, becomes a contemporary stage, frozen in time, far from the classic stories, which the stage carpets once set the stage for.

Jacob Juul In his work Jacob Juhl is concerned with how we perceive of the world through our senses and our verbal and visual languages. The artworks are often based on photographs and balance between tight minimalism and textural poetry. 
 In 2015 Juhl did a solo show at Galerie Martin Mertens in Berlin, participated in “Imago Mundi” in Venice and BuSho Short Film Festival in Budapest. In 2016 he has done two solo shows in Denmark in his ongoing series “In the Presence of Absence”.

Caroline Krabbe My work is inspired by the relationships between people, family and friends. The characters in my paintings are not portraits of real people, though at the same time they seem familiar to the spectator. They are generalized portraits; they really could be anybody. Through the movements of my hands the characters are shaped, and take on a life of their own. The images carry a meditative mood of calm, but the mind can also be headed onto a touch of loneliness, where everyone is on their own. Perspective shifts play with the viewer’s attention. Landscapes and sceneries are deliberately changed and representations of elements distorted, challenging the idea that the images correspond directly to a particular place in reality, and bringing them closer to a magical reality. There is space for contemplation and reflection in the recognizable situations and elements of the images. The imagery and shifts brings the viewer to a world where conventional rules are repealed, and where imagination interferes with reality. May, 2016. Caroline Krabbe 30

Anders Moseholm I am inspired by ambience and atmosphere. I am inspired by spaces that look simple but are complex. Keywords for me are calculated coincidence, network, ambiguity ... I am inspired by what seems like one thing, but also turns out to be something else. Like an everlasting existential dilemma. You cannot have green without red and red without green. I am inspired by twisting historic, geographic site-specific references. I sample and remix images together with my imagination in order to create my art. I primarily work with painting and try to create a meditative structure of imagery which communicates a mental state of movement and presence as I experience the contemporary age.

Rama King Nash Small dots dominate the surfaces of my paintings, I really like the optical effect that dots create and the vibration effect this causes between foreground and background. Sometimes I paint thick dots on canvas, for them to have a three-dimensional effect. I began using dots inspired by Pop Art, "primitive" art, and art crafts from Mexico. I like telling stories with my works, these are often filled with existential reflections and social criticism. At other times, I like to highlight everyday situations or interesting details of our surroundings that may appear trivial but that have a great influence in our lives. Human behaviour and interaction in time and space is the central theme in my art.

Jonas Pihl The Certainty of Chance In his paintings, Jonas Pihl works with a meeting between certainty and chance and the point where they overlap and become one. In bigger terms one could talk about an amalgamation of chaos and cosmos – chaos theory and the fractal patterns in nature, which is, paradoxically, a chaotic system. As an example, in the painting, Ghost Train, Pihl pours flowing paint on the canvas in a random manner; but the turbulent patterns it creates are controlled by the strict, taped boundaries. Thereby a tension is created between control and freedom. This is underlined by Pihl´s process oriented way of working. He steps out on a journey with no certain end – just as the viewer is given hints to the many directions the long perspectives in the paintings can lead. What is on the other side? In the painting, Glorious Morning, this is exactly the question being asked, as the dimensions skip from one to the other – maybe describing the many faceted sides of reality? The answer is in the eye of the beholder. Jonas Pihl is educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2008 and has since exhibited around the world in galleries and museums in New York, Miami, Cologne, Luxembourg and The Liverpool Biannual. This is his first exhibition in Spain. 41

Mette Rishøj Mette Rishøj is all about energy. Her individual works may seem playful or sinister, noisy or poetic, but are always teeming with an energy that fascinates or frightens – and mostly both. Her powerful expression evokes mythological themes such as the power of nature, the creativeness of Man and the destructive potential of his folly to create open-ended and highly personal narratives about the contemporary world that are deeply fascinating. Through her unorthodox technique Mette Rishøj incorporates real-live motifs such as trucks, factories and ships as part of her works as a reference to our concrete reality in a way that mirrors tribal art and cave paintings but she introduces chaotic elements with contemplative qualities as powerful reminders that our world is ever-changing.

Ann-Lisbeth Sanvig I am a storyteller. My artwork are about innocence contra decadence. Aesthetics contra sensuality. Femininity contra masculinity. Seriousness contra humor. By using symbolic references and ambiguities in my artwork I intend to express, that life is not always, what it seems to be.

Kristian Vodder Svenson In his latest artworks - done with acrylic paint on canvas - he created floating worlds, very detailed and inviting to explore. What you see and how you interpret what is seen, is entirely up to the individual which also is the reason why Kristian Vodder Svensson never give his works titles. Without any doubt, the paintings show beautiful visions, bursting with poetry and adventure jus waiting to begin. Trine Ross

Lene Winther Lene Winther is a Danish sculptor born in 1966. The underlying theme in most of her works is the subject of human responsibility towards the Earth's and our own condition. With ambiguity and humor her sculptures activate the imagination and inspire further reflections.
