about me

Developing meaningful products is something that is very dear to me. Looking around society, I see an abundance of products, many of them used only once or twice. I want to develop products with meaning, and where sustainability and users play a crucial role. A bit more about me: I am a 28 years old woman, living in Copenhagen’s Vesterbro neighborhood where I enjoy the sound of the city. I like to live in a sustainable manner, and I think about how my choices may affect others. I currently work as a recycling guide, where I help citizens to recycle more. In my spare time I enjoy immersing myself in ceramics, which helps me relax in the busy everyday life. My portfolio is a collection of some of my projects from the last four years while studying to become a design engineer. Some of the projects have been developed in cooperation whit others students.

Project l GIRL UR’IN

Bachelor project from Sustainable Design 15 ects

Girl Ur’in is a female urinal, which can be used at outdoor events, such as street parties and festivals. It is created to enhance gender equality at such events. Many women experience standing in long lines for toilets, or they eventually feel forced to urinate along fences, or in other exposed areas. Besides coming to the rescue of ladies needing to pee, Girl Ur’in contributes to a cleaner event area. This project is still ongoing, and hopefully it will soon become a reality at many more outdoor events. Girl Ur’in has been co-created with female users.

Girl Ur’in is co-created with female users through workshops. All prototypes are built in the university facilities by me and the team members

Project II touch screen in public places Project from Sustainable Design 15 ects

The fact that touchscreens are becoming increasingly popular in public places causes blind people to be left behind with further disadvantage. We developed a voice over-based interface along with a physical tactile frame that enables blind people to use touchscreens. We did this in order to include this handicapped minority in our society, which is a passion of mine. Once again, co-creation was an important element of developing the concept.

Our concept is developed with a user-driven approach, which resulted in a solution that included an overlooked segment of society. Right: Our concept on a package box (self-service pick-up point of packages).

Project III garbagesystem for new city district Project in sustainable design 15 ects

When new residential areas are constructed, garbage systems are often one of the last things on the architects’ agenda. This often results in sorting of waste becoming difficult for the residents. We developed a waste system for new neighborhoods in Copenhagen, which could include both a local biogas plant reducing heavy traffic from garbage trucks, as well as a large urban garden. This way, a more direct connection between residents, their waste, and their energy supply is established. By transporting the waste through an underground suction system, the neighborhood is exposed to less heavy traffic. Further, the residual product of the biogas plant can be used in the urban garden as a fertilizer.

Visualization of actor-network analysis and system analysis shows the relation between human and non-human actors, used as a tool for understanding the existing systems.

Project IIII customer decision journey Project in Master Design and innovation Product Development Projects in an Organizational Context 5 ects

The Customer Decision Journey (CDJ) was developed in cooperation with GN, a Danish company that produces hearing aids. CDJ is a solution to sell hearing aids at front desks, in order to give more people easier access to these devices. The user orders a starter-kit and through self-testing receives the hearing aid that fits their need. The design and development of CDJ was based on personas and desk research.

Project V cooling vest for surgery

Project in Master Design and innovation Advanced methods 10 ects

Many surgeons experience physical and psychological strain when operating for many hours. For certain operations, surgeons must wear a led-vest in order to protect themselves against x-rays. This results in the surgeon often beginning to sweat, which is unhygienic and can be dangerous for the patient. Our solution is a cooling vest that the surgeon can wear underneath his apron. The cooling vest is connected to a container with water and is controlled by the surgeon when needed. Similar products are already on the market. Therefore, the project focused more on implementation and change in the behaviour and workflow that is required by the surgeon.

Prototypes of how an alternative to conventional bricks could look like. Here, a reversible glue flows down through the bricks (inspired by a chemically reversible attachment-mechanism, based on a slug’s mucus) and takes advantage of geometric locking (inspired by how thorns attach to walls).

Project VI bio inspired repeatable rycycling of bricks

Project in Master Design and innovation Biomimetics and Bio-inspired Design 5 ects

Bricks, made for the building industry, are one of the materials that are not at the moment being recycled repeatedly. We developed a new type of brick that allows repeatable recycling. Inspired by a chemically reversible attachment-mechanism, based on a slug’s mucus, reversible glue flows through the bricks. This project sought to improve the lifecycles of bricks by ensuring they were recycled, and furthermore to improve the conditions in the conventional building industry where these materials often need to be broken down and reproduced, and thereby downcycled. In order to do so, a bio-inspired approach to problem-solving is adopted, where nature and biology is used as inspiration.
