The contents of this book were produced during the completion of the Yale School of Architecture Masters program. The projects range in scale, location, and investigation. However, between them is a consistent belief that to design an architectural work is to design a piece of a much larger cultural and political development. - 2016 -

INTRODUCTION I grew up in a neighborhood to the top right of the following image. Captured here, hovering above Chicago’s O’hare International Airport, is proof that we are part of a united network. Looking at the landscape, no references are made to the hallmarks of Chicago urbanism: neither the clear organization and romantic visions of Burnham’s plan, nor the crisp and revolutionary designs of the Modernist’s steel-frame skyscrapers. Rather, a much later and alternative urbanism has manifest – a global, cosmopolitan development, where city bounds have been dissolved and infrastructural optimism has led terrific construction. When I view the role of architecture and design from this perspective, I am reminded of how strongly it serves as a conduit for our political and cultural values. It is for this reason that in my architectural work, I find it critical to reflect on the local and holistic context of each project. I believe that through the buildings and objects we make, we chart a history and narrate ideologies. Today, the world in which architects operate is unlike times past. Globalization, the Digital Revolution, and anthropogenic effects on the natural environment are shifting the responsibilities and focus of architects, manufacturers, and planners. In their review, assisted by an ever-widening array of contemporary tools and collaborative possibilities, we are able to strategize and leverage cross-sections between economic, political, and social relationships to drive an informed and sophisticated architectural and urban form.

WORK EXPERIENCE Yale University Art Gallery Wurtele Gallery Teacher | New Haven, CT August 2014 to July 2016 The main priority of this position was to lead close-looking sessions for museum guests, primarily grades K-12, to nurture their appreciation and understanding of art. As museum educators, we had over 250 hours of training from curators, conservators, and historians on the collection and pedagogy of the gallery. Typical lessons included discussions on composition, narrative, as well as place and time. Complete comfort speaking to large groups of people was required, as well as extensive collaboration with the other Wurtele Gallery teachers, a team of graduate students from diverse fields and expertise. Yale School of Architecture, Visualization IV: Processing and Presentation Teaching Fellow | New Haven, CT May to July 2016 This seven-week, intensive course focused on techniques of representation vis-à-vis manual drawing, 3D modeling, and animation for approximately fifty students in the first-year M.Arch I program. As a teaching fellow, proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital rendering software, and movie editing was required to assist with in-class tutorials and one-on-one sessions. Final deliverables for the students included four multi-media drawings and a 60-second animation clip. Ricker Library of Art and Architecture Library Assistant | Urbana-Champaign, IL August 2010 to May 2013 This university collection specializes in architecture, architectural history, art, art history, design, museum studies, and art education with over 120,000 volumes and 33,000 serials. As a student library assistant, I provided regular reference and circulation services to library patrons. Daily tasks involved sorting and shelving requested items, assisting in research and gathering materials, maintaining the various library hold shelves, and informing patrons about online resources. ADDITIONAL PROJECTS mo(ve)ments: African Digital Subjectivities, Africa Salon, Yale University Exhibition Design and Fabrication March to April 2016

As part of a marathon effort towards the finale of this extensive research project, my role included managing and designing two key components for the gallery exhibition: the “Drawing Set” and “Models of the World.” The first involved coordinating the design, printing, and installation of over forty large-scale drawings, and the second called for research and correspondence with symposium participants to collect graphics, audio-visuals, and publications for display on long vitrines in the gallery.

The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks global and country-by-country performance on high-priority environmental issues such as freshwater quality, species loss, indoor air quality, toxic chemical exposures, and more. One of their highest priorities is to produce communication materials to bring complex science and policy to the public. My role was to design and produce EPI indicator infographics, the Summary for Policymakers, and the 2014 EPI Report. Graphic work done for the EPI has been featured in the Atlantic, Scientific American, Nature, as well as other online outlets. MulvannyG2 Architecture Intern Architect | Seattle, WA May to August 2013 During my time at MG2, I worked on an international team to develop schematic designs and master plans for the Shihao Center, a 4.3 million square foot mixed-use complex in the central business district of Chengdu, China.
