Hvad nu hvis den nedlagte Skamlebæk Radiostation blev det nye besøgscenter og indgangen til hele Geopark Odsherred? Hvordan kan landskabsarkitektur formidle solvognens findested i Trundholm Mose? Og kan vi lave Lammefjordens vandsystem om for at fremme bæredygtigt landbrug, naturudvikling og turisme? Denne publikation præsenterer strategiske designforslag udarbejdet af landskabsarkitektstuderende ved Københavns Universitet. Fra februar til april 2016 har 23 studerende fra 11 lande udforsket muligheder for at udvikle Geopark Odsherred gennem landskabsprojekter. What if the vacant radio station at SkamlebĂŚk became the new visitor centre and gateway to the Geopark Odsherred? How can landscape design communicate the finding place of the sun chariot in the Trundholm bog? And can we rework the water system of the reclaimed Lammefjord for sustainable farming, nature development and tourism? This volume presents strategic design work by landscape architecture students at the University of Copenhagen. From February to April 2016, 23 students from 11 countries explored possibilities for developing the Geopark Odsherred through landscape projects. In dialogue with municipal planners, local experts and local enthusiasts they developed six projects for the future Geopark Odsherred. Enjoy!

ABOUT TRANSFORMATION STUDIO
Byudvikling arbejder i stigende grad med transformation af eksisterende byggede miljøer og landskaber igennem strategiske projekter. Spørgsmål om hvordan man kan aktivere eksisterende resurser, kvaliteter og potentialer stimulerer nye tilgange til landskabsarkitektur. Landskabsarkitekter interesserer sig mere og mere for hvad fysiske tiltag kan gøre, frem for hvordan de burde se ud. De udvikler byrums- og landskabsprojekter som interventioner – dvs. som midler snarere end mål og som en aktiv del i en dynamisk udvikling snarere end et færdigt resultat. Ideen er at styre udviklingen i en ønsket retning ved hjælp af målrettede fysiske og programmatiske indgreb. Samtidig kræver komplekse byudviklingsprocesser samarbejde mellem mange aktører og at forblive åbent overfor nye interesser og erkendelser i en langvarig proces med uvisse resultater.
Spatial planning increasingly focuses on the transformation of existing built environments and landscapes through strategic development projects. Questions about how to activate existing resources, qualities and potential for strategic purposes stimulate new ways of design thinking. Landscape architects are more and more interested in what a design does rather than how it looks. They are increasingly conceiving open space projects as interventions – as means rather than ends, and as an active part of dynamic development rather than fixed results. The overall idea is to steer spatial development in a desired direction through strategic physical and programmatic interventions. At the same time, complex urban development processes require collaborating with many actors and remaining open to new interests and insights.
Den strategiske projektudvikling kræver mere end formgivning i forhold til et på forhånd defineret program for et på forhånd afgrænset område. Strategisk projektudvikling inkluderer formuleringen af et designproblem og afgrænsningen af et projektområde med udgangspunkt i en analyse af tilstedeværende resurser, udfordringer og potentialer. Stedsanalysen bliver derfor det første og måske vigtigste skridt i en designproces. Dette kræver mere forskningsorienterede designmetoder uden dog at give slip på kreativiteten. Fordi enhver lokal situation er unik, socialt omstridt og konstant i forandring, findes der ingen objektiv måde at afgøre hvad der vil være den rigtige intervention. Men ved at arbejde skiftevist med analyse og projektudvikling i en sammenhængende kreativ proces, kan landskabsarkitekter udforske og sandsynliggøre lokale udviklingsmuligheder. Det er hvad vi gør i Transformation Studio.
Strategic design requires more than giving shape to an a priori defined program on an a priori delimited site. It includes the formulation of a design problem and the delimitation of areas for design intervention based on an evaluation of present resources, challenges and potential. Site analysis thus becomes the first and maybe the most important step in the design process. This requires more research-oriented design methods without, however, slipping creativity. Because each local situation is unique, socially contested and constantly changing in relation to many factors at multiple scales, there are no correct solutions, and no objective way of deciding what would be a good intervention. But when conducted as an integrated creative process, site analysis and design can explore and make local development possibilities probable. This is what we do in the Transformation Studio.
Gennem intensivt feltarbejde i et større studieområde udforsker vi aktuelle udfordringer og potentialer. På dette grundlag formulerer vi strategiske visioner of identificerer relevante områder for fysiske og programmatiske interventioner. Endelig udvikler vi strategiske projekter for udvalgte steder.
Through intensive field work in a larger study area, we investigate current challenges and development potential. On this basis, we formulate strategic development visions and identify relevant sites for design intervention. Finally, we develop strategic design interventions for selected sites.

STRATEGISK DESIGN SOM OVERSÆTTELSE STRATEGIC DESIGN AS TRANSLATION Inspireret af Aktør-Netværk Teori forstår vi strategisk projektudvikling som en oversættelsesproces. Oversættelse, også kaldet en ANT-analyse, er en metode til at beskrive hvordan komplekse koblinger mellem mennesker, ting og ideer bliver bygget op for et bestemt formål1. Dette kunne for eksempel være en strategisk vision for byudvikling. Netop fordi ANT ser både mennesker, ting og ideer som forandringsagenter er den et godt udgangspunkt for at strukturere en strategisk designproces fra stedsanalyse til projektudvikling.
Inspired by Actor-Network Theory (ANT) we understand strategic design as a translation process. Translation, also called an ANT-account, is a method to describe how complex networks of people, things, and ideas are constructed for a certain purpose1. This could, for example, be a strategic vision for landscape development. Precisely because ANT equally perceives people, things, and ideas as agents of change, we find this method helpful for structuring a strategic design process from site analysis to project development.
En oversættelsesproces har fire afgørende momenter som forbinder projektudvikling med opbygningen af de aktør-netværker som er nødvendige for at realisere projektet2. Fra formuleringen af den første vision for et givent område samt identificering af de aktører som er berørt af de formulerede mål, over afprøvningen af forskellige udviklingsmuligheder ved hjælp af kort og diagrammer, til udviklingen af et konkret projekt og endelig det øjeblik, hvor det realiserede projekt udfolder sin virkning på stedet. Inden for ANT taler man om problematisering, tiltrækning, indrullering og mobilisering af allierede3. I praksis er disse faser ikke klart adskilte og særligt tiltrækningsfasen, der bygger bro mellem den oprindelige problemformulering og de endelige projekter, kræver konstant at skifte mellem analyse- og designperspektiv.
A translation process has four decisive moments which link project development to the construction of actor-networks that are necessary to realise the project2. From the formulation of a preliminary vision and the identification of a set of actors who are concerned with the formulated goals, over testing of different development possibilities through maps and diagrams, to the development of a concrete project, and finally the moment where the realised project unfolds its effect. ANT calls these moments; problematization, interessement, enrolment and mobilization of allies3. The different moments are not clearly separated, and especially interessement activities, which link problem formulation, analysis and project development, require shifting continuously between analysis and design mode. The diagram above shows how a project (the black dot) develops from the first vision to the realised project by assembling human and non-human actors (the black circles) until a constraining actor-network has been built.

Odsherred Kommune ligger på Nordvestsjælland. Kommunen har knap 33.000 indbyggere på 355 km²; den største by er Nykøbing Sjælland med omkring 5.100 indbyggere.
Odsherred Municipality is located in north-western Zealand. Close to 33,000 inhabitants live on an area of 355 km²; the biggest town, Nykøbing Sjælland, has about 5,100 inhabitants.
På trods af at det kun er en times kørsel til København er Odsherred et såkaldt yderområde i Danmark. Befolkningen er aldrende, ledighedsprocenten er høj og især de unge flytter fra. Men Odsherred har også store stedbundne potentialer i form af et unikt istidslandskab, rig kulturarv og naturarv og aktive lokalsamfund. Disse stedbundne ressourcer danner udgangspunkt for kommunens største udviklingsprojekt: Geopark Odsherred.
Although it is only a one-hour drive to Copenhagen, Odsherred is a so-called peripheral area in Denmark. The population is ageing, unemployment rates are high and especially young people move away. But Odsherred also has strong place-based potential in the form of a unique ice age landscape, rich cultural and natural heritage, and active local communities. These place-based resources form the basis for the municipality’s biggest development project: the Geopark Odsherred.
En geopark er “et sammenhængende geografisk område hvor steder og landskaber af international geologisk betydning forvaltes med et holistisk koncept for beskyttelse, uddannelse og bæredygtig udvikling”4. Rygraden i Geopark Odsherred er Odsherredbuerne: Vejrhøjbuen, Vigbuen og Højbybuen, som blev skabt i den sidste istid. Formationerne i Odsherred er et skoleeksempel på et landskab skabt af isen5. I september 2014 blev hele kommunens areal anerkendt som UNESCO Geopark og Geopark Odsherred blev optaget i det Europæiske og det Globale Geopark Netværk.
A geopark is “a single, unified geographical area where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development”4. The backbone of the Geopark Odsherred are the Odsherred arches; Vejrhøj arch, Vig arch and Højby Triomphe were formed during the last ice age and are a textbook example of a landscape created by the ice5. In September 2014, the area of the entire Odsherred Muncipality was officially recognized as a UNESCO Geopark and became a member of the European and the Global Geoparks Networks.
Geopark Odsherred sigter mod at skabe økonomisk vækst, identitet og uddannelse med udgangspunkt i landskabet, kulturhistorien, kunst og lokale råvarer. For at opnå disse strategiske mål arbejder geopark-organisationen med fysiske projekter, brandinginitiativer og events som involverer mange lokale og nationale samarbejdspartnere. Her kommer Transformation Studio ind i billedet: Opgaven i Odsherred var at udvikle landskabsprojekter for geoparken som udfolder eksisterende stedbundne ressourcer og på denne måde at stimulere natur-, erhvervs- og turismeudvikling.
The Geopark Odsherred aims to create economic growth, identity and education based on the landscape, cultural history, art, and produce. To achieve these strategic goals the geopark organization works with physical projects, branding initiatives and events involving many local and national cooperation partners. This is where the Transformation Studio comes into the picture: The students’ task was to develop landscape projects for the geopark, which unfold existing place-based resources in order to stimulate positive development of nature, business and tourism.

(1) At leve og lære fra landskabet. Landskabet og det levede liv i landskabet, gennem historien og i dag, er hjertet i geoparkprojektet. I det 19. og 20. århundrede har landmænd tørlagt Lammefjorden og Sidinge Fjord for at dyrke grønsager, som i dag er et registreret varemærke. Mange kunstnere er blevet tiltrukket og tiltrækkes fortsat til Odsherred på grund af det karakteristiske landskab og de særlige lysforhold. I dag lærer forskere, turister og lokale folkeskoleelever fra landskabet samtidig med at de bidrager nye historier til landskabets fremtidige udvikling, for eksempel med GeoKids projektet. Hvordan kan landskabsprojekter formidle disse landskabshistorier og understøtte det liv som leves i landskabet i dag og i fremtiden?
(1) Living and learning from the landscape. The landscape and the life being lived in the landscape, through history and today, are at the heart of the geopark project. In the 19th and 20th century farmers drained the Lammefjord and Sidinge Fjord to farm produce, which today is a registered brand. Many artists have been attracted to Odsherred because of the characteristic landscape and the light conditions. Today, researchers, tourists and local pupils are learning from the landscape, while they also contribute new stories to its future development, for example with the GeoKids project. How can landscape projects communicate these landscape stories and support the life being lived in the landscape today and in the future?
(2) Livet ved kysten. Der er omkring 26,000 sommerhuse i Odsherred, de fleste langs den 157 km lange kystlinje. Livet ved kysten er domineret af sommerhusturister, mens de fastboende bor i landsbyerne i indlandet: turister og borgere lever hver i deres eget domæne. Geoparken tilbyder nye muligheder for at forbinde kysten og indlandet, turister og fastboende. Den tilbyder også nye muligheder for at gentænke og reorganisere ansvarligheder og følelser af ejerskab for landskabet, for eksempel ved at invitere sommerhusejerne til at bidrage til forvaltningen og udviklingen af landskabet omkring Skamlebæk Radiostation og Disbjerg. Hvordan kan livet ved kysten blive en ressource for udviklingen af geoparken og omvendt?
(2) Coastal living. About 26,000 summer cottages are located in Odsherred, most of them along the 157 km-long coast line. Coastal living in Odsherred is dominated by visitors, while the residents live in the villages and small towns in the inland. Visitors and residents each live in their own domain. The geopark offers new possibilities to connect coast and inland, visitors and residents. It also offers new possibilities to rethink and reorganize responsibilities for the landscape, for example, by inviting summer cottage owners to participate in the management and the development of the landscape around Skamlebæk Radio station and Disbjerg. How can coastal living become an asset for the development of the geopark and vice versa?
(3) Mobilitet og tilgængelighed. Bedre adgang til landskabet og især til geosites er et af geoparkprojektets vigtigste målsætninger. “Adang” betyder her både fysisk og mental tilgængelighed – som er tit forbunden. Højderygstien langs med Odsherredbuerne, for eksempel, kommer til at forbedre den fysiske tilgængelighed af landskabet samtidig med at den vil inspirere til særlige landskabsoplevelser og følelser. Den nye Rute 21 fra Holbæk til færgen i Sjællands Odde er primært planlagt som en hurtig transitrute; men den tilbyder også en ny landskabelig køreoplevelse af Odsherred. Forskellige måder at bevæge sig gennem landskabet inspirerer forskellige landskabsoplevelser. Begivenheder såsom Geopark Festivalen kan være en anden vej til at invitere folk ud i landskabet. Hvordan kan landskabsprojekter understøtte mobilitet og tilgængelighed af geoparken?
(3) Mobilities and access. Improved access to the landscape and to geosites in particular is one of the most important aims of the geopark project. “Access” means here both physical access and mental access – which are often interconnected. The ridge trail along the Odsherred arches, for example, will both improve the physical access to the landscape and inspire particular landscape experiences. While it was planned for fast transit the new route 21 from Holbæk to the ferry in Sjællands Odde also offers a new landscape centred experience of Odsherred. Different ways of moving through the landscape inspire different landscape experiences. Events such as the Geopark Festival can be another way to invite people into the landscape. How can landscape projects support mobilities and access to the geopark?

HVORDAN VI HAR ARBEJDET
HOW WE WORKED
Med afsæt i de tre udviklingstemaer (1) At leve og lære fra landskabet, (2) Livet ved kysten og (3) Mobilitet og tilgængelighed udforskede de studerende muligheder for nye strategiske landskabsprojekter. Aktuelle landskabsudviklingsprojekter, lokal viden om stedbundne kvaliteter, ressourcer og potentialer som er udviklet herigennem og – ikke mindst – de mennesker som allerede er engageret i udviklingen af Geopark Odsherred forsynede de studerende med trædesten for at udvikle nye ideer.
Based on the three emerging development themes; (1) Living and learning from the landscape, (2) Coastal living, and (3) Mobilities and access; the students explored opportunities for new strategic landscape projects. Current landscape development projects, local knowledge about place-based qualities, resources and potential, and – not least – talking to people who already are engaged in the development of the Geopark Odsherred provided the students with a key to idea development.
En uge med intensivt feltarbejde skabte basis for projektudviklingen. På vores første dag fik vi en guidet tur gennem geoparken af den kommunale projektledere. Vi besøgte solvognens findested i Trundholm Mose, GeoKids shelteret i Veddinge bakker, en planlagt demonstrationsmark og østersbænke fra Bronzetiden i den tørlagte Lammefjord, det megalitiske gravsted på Plejerupdyssen og vi nød udsigten fra Esterhøj over Højderygstien.
A week of intensive fieldwork created a basis for project development. On the first day in Odsherred, we were given a guided tour of the geopark by the municipal project manager. We visited the finding place of the Sun Chariot in the Trundholm bog, the GeoKids shelter in the Veddinge hills, a planned demonstration field and Bronze Age oyster banks in the reclaimed Lammefjord, the megalithic tomb at Plejerupdyssen, and we enjoyed the view over the ridge trail from Esterhøj.
Gennem de næste to dage udførte de studerende tre tematiske transects6. I små grupper undersøgte de en rute forbi steder med betydning for ét af de tre udviklingstemaer, enten langs kysten eller på kryds og tværs af indlandet. De studerende bevægede sig rundt i bil og til fods, gjorde iagttagelser i landskabet og førte samtaler om stedet på stedet .
The next two days the students conducted thematic transects6; in small groups they investigated a route past locations which resonated with one of the three development themes; along the coast or across the inland. The students moved around by car and on foot, made observations in the landscape and had onsite conversations about the landscape.
Formålet med feltarbejdet var at udvikle første ideer og at identificere katalytiske situationer for nye landskabsprojekter, dvs. situationer hvor fysiske tiltag ville kunne stimulere positiv udvikling af natur, erhverv eller turisme. Til dette formål skulle de studerende rette opmærksomheden mod tegn for forandringer i landskabet, for eksempel i form af nylige fysiske forandringer, nye aktiviteter og anvendelser og ideer og ønsker om forandringer.
The aim of these transects was to generate first design visions and to identify catalytic situations for new landscape projects, i.e. situations where physical interventions were likely to stimulate positive development of nature, business or tourism in relation to the Geopark Odsherred. To this end, we asked the students to look for signs of landscape change such as recent physical changes, new activities and uses, and ideas and desires for future development.
Hver gruppe lavede to til tre arrangerede interviews med lokale aktører i geoparkprojekter eller relaterede initiativer. Derudover lavede de mindst tre spontane interviews med folk de mødte ‘på farten’. I de spontane interviews brugte de studerende et kort over Odsherred for at tale med folk om deres daglige ruter, udfordringer og glæder i hverdagen og steder som betød noget særligt for dem. Mens de arrangerede interviews gav rig information om stedbundne kvaliteter, ressourcer og aktuelle forandringer, bidrog de spontane interviews med indsigt i mange forskellige menneskers hverdagsruter og rutiner.
Each group conducted two to three arranged interviews with local actors in geopark projects or related initiatives. In addition, each group conducted at least three spontaneous interviews with people they met ‘on the road’. Here, the students used a map of Odsherred to talk about people’s everyday life routes, challenges and pleasures, and the places that meant something special to them. While the arranged interviews provided rich information on place-based qualities, resources and current transformations, the spontaneous interviews contributed with insight into a variety of people’s everyday life routes and routines.
Observationer langs ruten fokuserede på tre typer situationer i alle skalaer: (1) Inside/outside, dvs. rumlige overgange fra et sted eller landskab til et andet; (2) front/back, dvs. aktiviteter som forgår ‘bag scenen’; og (3) above/below; dvs. hvordan infrastruktur- og servicenetværker, som ofte er usynlige ’nedenunder’ en situation, påvirker de synlige aktiviteter ‘på overfladen’, for eksempel er et busstoppested del af et større eller mindre transportsystem som forbinder et sted til andre steder.
Observations along the route focused on three types of situation on all scales: (1) Inside/outside, i.e. spatial transitions from one place or landscape to another; (2) front/back, i.e. usages and activities that occur ‘behind the scenes’; and (3) above/below; i.e. how infrastructural networks and services, which are often invisible ‘below’ a situation, affect usages and activities ‘above’, e.g. a bus stop is part of a larger transportation network which creates connections to other places.

Med udgangspunkt i deres feltarbejde lavede de studerende fælles evalueringskort for hvert tema; de identificerede katalytiske situationer of formulerede første udviklingsvisioner og projektideer, som vi diskuterede med geoparkprojektlederen og to kommunale planlæggere. De sidste to dage i felten brugte de studerende på mere fokuserede stedsundersøgelser med udgangspunkt i deres første projektideer. Tilbage ved tegnebordene i København, udviklede de studerende deres indsigter fra feltarbejdet til mere specifikke udviklingsvisioner, afklarede projektområder og definerede konkrete tiltag. De sidste fire uger blev brugt på at udarbejde et strategisk projektforslag ledsaget af ugentligt feedback fra gæstekritiker og en afsluttende projektpræsentation og -diskussion med geoparkprojektlederen og de kommunale planlæggere.
Based on their fieldwork the students made common evaluation maps for each theme, identified catalytic situations, and formulated first development visions and project ideas, which we then discussed with the geopark project manager and two municipal planners. The last two days of fieldwork were spent with focused site evaluation based on the students’ first project ideas. Back at the drawing boards in Copenhagen, the students developed their fieldwork findings into more specified design visions, delimited sites for intervention, and defined concrete interventions. Through the last four weeks the students elaborated a strategic landscape project guided by regular feedback from guest critics and concluded by a final project presentation with the geopark project manager and the municipal planners.
Flere studerende holdt kontakt med de lokale aktører som de havde talt med i Odsherred. Andre tog kontakt til nye lokale eksperter eller aktører undervejs. På denne måde blev de studerende ved med at indarbejde ny input i deres projekter helt frem til afleveringen.
Several students stayed in touch with local actors they had interviewed in Odsherred throughout the course. Others contacted new local actors and experts in the process. In this way, the students kept introducing new insights into their projects until the final hand-in.

De seks projekter der kom ud af kurset spænder vidt fra ideer til midlertidige kunstbegivenheder til vandhåndteringsprojekter i den store skala.
The six strategic projects which resulted from the course represent a wide range of design ideas for strategic landscape development ranging from temporary art events to large scale water management projects.
De tre oprindelige udviklingstemaer er genkendelige i de fleste projekter og flere projekter lægger sig i forlængelse af aktuelle geoparkprojekter og initiativer. Samtidig fremsætter alle projekter nye ideer og indsigter – de foreslår nye programmer, bringer nye steder i spil og anbefaler nye samarbejdsnetværker. Først og fremmest skaber de nye billeder af mulige fremtidige landskaber, som vi håber, kan være til inspiration for alle de lokale aktører som kommer til at arbejde med udviklingen af fremtidens Geopark Odsherred. The initial three development themes are recognizable in most of the projects and several projects clearly expand on existing geopark projects and initiatives. At the same time all the projects present new original ideas and insights – they bring in new programmatic ideas, identify new locations for landscape development, and propose new collaboration networks. SEKS PROJEKTER FOR GEOPARK ODSHERRED SIX PROJECTS FOR GEOPARK ODSHERRED Skamlebæk Sletten – Indgangen til geoparken vil forvandle den funktionstømte Skamlebæk Radiostation til et attraktivt besøgscenter for Geopark Odsherred med plads til lokale arrangementer, møder og udstillinger. Skamlebæk Sletten omdannes til en offentlig park som fortæller historien fra istidens geologiske formationer over bronzealderen til moderne levn fra radiofunktionerne. Smeltevandsstien guider besøgende fra havet op gennem smeltevandskløften til Disbjerg med biologiske, historiske og geologiske læringsplatformer og dramatiske udsigtspunkter undervejs. Skamlebæk Sletten – The Gateway to the geopark will turn the disused Skamlebæk Radio Station into an attractive visitor centre for the Geopark Odsherred with room for community events, meetings and exhibitions. Skamlebæk Sletten becomes a public park telling the history from geological formation over the Bronze Age to the modern remnants of the radio functionality. The Meltwater Stream Trail guides the visitor from the sea up the meltwater gorge to Disbjerg with biological, historical and geological outdoor classrooms and dramatic viewpoints along the way. På vej i de inddæmmede landskaber vil skabe mental og fysisk adgang til tre vigtige geosites: Lammefjordens, Sidinge Fjordens og Klintsøs inddæmmede landskaber. I alle tre områder vil forbedrede og nye stier lede besøgende og lokale omkring de steder hvor tørlægningen er mest synlig, nemmest at forstå og opleve, for eksempel ved pumpestationer, dæmninger, kanaler, grøfter og spor efter tidligere kystlinjer. Stepping into reclaimed land will create mental and physical access to three major geosites in Geopark Odsherred: the reclaimed landscapes of Lammefjord, Sidinge Fjord and Klintsø. In all the three areas improved and new trails will lead visitors and locals through the sites where the land reclamation is the most visible and understandable such as; pumping stations, dikes, canals, ditches and traces of shorelines. Veje til en bæredygtig vandmaskine foreslår at omdanne Lammefjordens vandsystem for at fremme bæredygtigt landbrug, naturudvikling og turisme. Den delvist økologiske Brogaard Farm forslås omlagt til fuld økologisk produktion; rørlagte dræn vil blive åbnet og en farm campingplads, farm shop og nye rekreative stier skaber grundlag for agro-turisme. Et nyt vådområde omkring centerkanalens munding vil rense vandet, stimulere naturudvikling og invitere besøgende langs nye stier. Towards a sustainable water-machine proposes reworking the water system of the reclaimed Lammefjord for sustainable farming, nature development and tourism. As a start the partly organic Brogaard Farm will shift to fully organic production; piped ditches will be opened up and a farm campsite, farm shop and new recreational paths will boost agro-tourism. A new wetland area along the outlet of the central canal will purify the water, stimulate nature development and invite visitors along new paths. Genopdag Solvognen i Trundholm Mose! iscenesætter findestedet af Danmarks fineste Bronzealderklenodie som en landskabsoplevelse. Projektet forslår at omdanne den i dag tørlagte Trundholm Mose til et offentligt tilgængeligt naturområde. Nye vådområder og enge vil stimulere biodiversitet og tilpasse landskabet til klimaforandringerne. Stier, boardwalks og skiveformede platforme vil guide den besøgende til solvognens findested og fortælle historien om Bronzealderens ritualer.
Skamlebæk Radiostation
Finding the Sun Chariot in Trundholm Mose stages the finding place of Denmark’s finest Bronze Age artefact as a landscape experience. The project proposes to transform the today reclaimed Trundholm bog into a publicly accessible nature area. New wetlands and meadows will stimulate biodiversity and adapt the landscape to climate change. Paths, boardwalks and disc-shaped platforms will guide the visitor to the finding place of the Sun Chariot and tell the story of Bronze Age rituals.

Korevlerne GeoCommunity vil genoplive det lokale fællesskab i Danmarks største koncentration af sommerhuse langs Lyngvej i Odsherred. Projektet forslår bottom-up naturudvikling af sommerhusgrunde øst for Lyngvejen, et nyt farmers’ marked og mødested i et funktionstømt supermarked ved Lyngvej, et nyt medborgerhus i den tomme Hønsinge Mølle og nye stier som forbinder indlandet med kysten. Korevlerne GeoCommunity aims to reignite the community within Denmark’s highest concentration of summer cottages along Lyngvej i Odsherred. The project works with bottom-up nature development of the summer cottage lots east of Lyngvej, it establishes a new farmers’ market in a vacant supermarket at Lyngvej, a community centre in the vacant Hønsinge Mill and new paths linking the inland to the coast.
Dragsholm
Nordisk Center For Lokale Fødevarer – en landskabsoplevelse anviser en alternativ placering i tomme staldbygninger på Dragsholm Slot og udvider programmet til landskabet. På gårdspladsen forslås demonstrations plantebede og madrelaterede aktiviteter. På forsøgsmarken i Lammefjorden kan nye afgrøder testes og formidles til besøgende. Stier leder oppe på Vejrhøj og nede til stranden hvor mobile skulpturer viser vej til vilde, spiselige planter på skiftende steder alt efter sæson. The Nordic Food Center – a landscape experience suggests an alternative location in disused stables at Dragsholm Castle and expands the programme to the surrounding landscape of the Geopark Odsherred. In the courtyard will be demonstration gardens and food-related activities. New produce can be tested and communicated to visitors on a test field in the Lammefjord. Paths lead up the Vejrhøj and down to the beach where mobile sculptures guide foodies to wild edible plants. 16

SKAMLEBÆK SLETTEN – INDGANGEN TIL GEOPARKEN Dette projekt vil omdanne det ubenyttede bygningskompleks Skamlebæk Radiostation og det omgivende fredede naturområde til et attraktivt besøgscenter for og en indgangsportal til Geopark Odsherred. Det nye besøgscenter vil byde på information, uddannelse og fællesfaciliteter og derved skabe lettilgængelig og inspirerende information som vil skabe et udgangspunkt for at udforske hele Geoparken. Det nye center og indgang til Geoparken vil skabe en platform hvor tilbagevende spørgsmål fra lokale og besøgende kan blive besvaret – hvad er Geopark Odsherred, hvor er Geoparken og hvordan får jeg adgang til Geoparkens attraktioner?

Området med levn fra radiofunktionerne vil blive til en park, der fortæller en rig historie om dets tilblivelse, som spænder fra de geologiske formationer til bronzealderen og senere moderne udnyttelse. Derudover er det en del af et fredet naturområde, hvilket giver yderligere kvalitet til stedet, da beskyttelsen fremmer habitat for flora og fauna, især orkideer og sommerfugle.
Skamlebæk Radiostation ligger ved den vestlige kyst af Odsherred i et område med unikke geologiske formationer i form af et smeltevandsdal og en enestående koncentration af attraktioner i nærheden. I kombination med områdets gode lokale, regionale og nationale cykel-, tog-, og motorvejforbindelser er det derfor det ideale sted til et nyt besøgscenter for Geoparken. Ved at artikulere, forbinde og omprogrammere eksisterende elementer og attraktioner, er det vores mål at fremhæve det allerede eksisterende og blot gøre det synlig, tilgængelig og bevare det, hvor det er nødvendigt.
Området markerer starten på en ny 2 km land smeltevandssti, som skaber en rekreativ adgang til landskabet. Stien følger bækken fra havet og op gennem smeltevandskløften med biologiske, historiske og geologiske læringsplatformer og dramatiske udsigtspunkter undervejs. En astikker på stien skaber adgang til radiotårnet, der byder på flere imponerende udsigtspunkter. Stien fungerer bogstaveligt som en indgangsportal til Geoparken; den slutter ved en rasteplads og campingplads tæt på det eksisterende udsigtspunkt på Disbjerg hvorfra man kan fortsætte vandringen på Højderygstien og det større netværk af vandrestier i Geoparken.
Genanvendelsen af radiostationens bygninger vil skabe attraktive rum for Geoparkens administration og etablere et besøgscenter til at informere, uddanne samt skaber en indgang til Geoparken. Bygningen kan på grund af dets
SKAMLEBÆK SLETTEN – THE GATEWAY TO THE GEOPARK This project will transform the disused building complex of Skamlebæk Radio Station and an existing nature conservation area into an attractive centre and gateway for and to the Odsherred Geopark. The newly established Geopark centre will provide engaging information, educational and community facilities, thus conveying easily accessible and inspiring information as a starting point to discover the Odsherred Geopark in its entirety. The new centre and gateway to the Geopark will provide a platform to answer the frequently arising questions from locals and visitors alike: What is the Odsherred Geopark, where is the GeoPark and how can I access the Geopark attractions?
sign the building is highly adaptable and in addition to existing events, programs and research projects, further permanent and temporary functions could be accommodated with ease. The Geopark Centre and its site will become a place for community events, meetings and exhibitions, a place fostering new multi-stakeholder connections thus creating new opportunities between local residents, seasonal residents, tourists and the farming community. The site with remnants of the radio functionality creates a park that tells a rich story of its genesis ranging from geological formation, to Bronze Age and recent modern utilization. Furthermore being part of an existing conservation area an additional attraction can be added to the site through the protection and fostering of habitats for existing flora and fauna and specifically for local orchids and butterflies.
Located at the western coast of the Odsherred Geopark, the area of the Skamlebæk Radio Station has the unique geological features of a former ice age meltwater stream as well as an unmatched accumulation of attractions in close proximity. In combination with the area’s good local, regional and national cycle, train and motorway connections, it qualifies as an ideal location for the new centre of the Geopark. By articulating, connecting and reprogramming existing features, and attractions, we aim to emphasise the already existing and merely make it visible, accessible and preserve it were necessary.
The site also marks the starting point for a new 2 km educational Geopark themed, Meltwater Stream Trail that provides recreational access to the inland. This unifying element follows a stream from the sea up the ancient meltwater gorge with various biological, historical and geological outdoor classrooms and dramatic viewpoints along the way. Branching of the trail access to the working radio tower is facilitated with further impressive views. Literally acting as a gateway to the GeoPark the trail reaches a campsite and resting place close to the existing viewing point on top of Disbjerg, directly connecting with the Ridge Path and the wider Geopark trekking network.
The reutilisation of the Skamlebæk Radio Station buildings will provide an attractive space for the Geopark administration and establish a visitor centre to inform, educate and provide a gateway to the Geopark. Due to its size and de20

PÅ VEJ I DE INDDÆMMEDE LANDSKABER Dette projekt omhandler den mentale og fysiske adgang til tre vigtige geosites i Geopark Odsherred – de inddæmmede landskaber af Lammefjord, Sidinge Fjord og Klintsø. Disse landskaber bærer en stor del af Geopark Odsherreds identitet idet de repræsenterer tre af i alt fire Geopark temaer – landskab, kulturhistorie og råvarer – men de mangler formidling. Hele 20 % af hele Odsherred er tørlagt land. Tørlægningen har fundet sted i over 125 år og er stadig en igangværende proces, hvor vandet konstant skal pumpes op til havniveau.
den den nuværende og drænede Lammefjord. Sidinge Fjord opleves bedst ved at gå på dæmningen og stå på den nye platform ved pumpestationen. Således kan man nyde udsigt både over det dyrkede landskab til den ene side og havet til den anden. Det er også på dæmningen at man ser en tydelig niveauforskel mellem hav og land. Oplevelsen vil her blive fremhævet ved at gøre det muligt at træde ned fra pumpestationens platform ned i det dyrkede landskab og fortsætte gåturen langs kanalen og opleve det at gå på tidligere havbund i det stejle terræn.
Mens den geologiske formation er synlig kan selve kulturhistorien være svær at forstå og opleve. Desuden er alle tre områder ejet og dyrket af landmænd, hvilket gør det svært for besøgende og lokale at få adgang hertil. I dag går de fleste vandreruter langs kysten eller offentlig veje. Den nuværende situation kan med stor fordel forbedres ved at omlægge og forbinde eksisterende stier igennem eller omkring de tørlagte landskaber. I alle tre områder vil stierne lede besøgende til de steder hvor tørlægningen er mest synlig, nemmest at forstå og opleve, fx ved pumpestationer, dæmninger, kanaler, grøfter og historiske kystlinjer. Den overordnede idé for de tre områder er den samme, men udførelsen er forskellig alt efter områdernes geologiske historie, skala og de forskellige eksempler af tørlægning.
Klintsø en tørlagt sø. Selvom der her ikke er nogen dramatisk dæmning eller særlig tydelig niveauforskel bærer det stadig præg af at være drænet. Ruten i klintsø vil løbe omkring den tidligere søbred, som skaber muligheden for at opleve den tidligere søs størrelse og de historiske spor af søbred i landskabet. Langs stien vil besøgende passere et rør der leder vandet fra det dyrkede område ud til havet, kanaler og, selvfølgelig mest vigtigt, opleve hvad der var vand før, er land nu. Små indgreb som at videreføre en eksisterende linje af træer, som løber langs en af klintsøs udløbskanaler, vil hjælpe med at forbinde nedløbsrøret ved stranden med kanalen visuelt. En symbolsk linje lægges i jorden ved Klintsøgård Efterskole der forbinder det sted hvor Klintsøs historiske søbred er brudt og hjælpe med at guide besøgende videre på ruten.
I Lammefjorden er skalaen så stor, at den bedste måde at opleve tørlægningen på er langs kanalerne. Dele af stien vil lede besøgende fra havniveau (-7 m) til Audebo dæmning og -pumpestation samt Audebo plantage. Oplevelsen på turen vil blive fremhævet ved at blive ledt op til havniveau via trapper, hvorfra man kan nyde udsigten til begge sider ud over

STEPPING INTO RECLAIMED LAND This project is about mental and physical access to three major geosites in Geopark Odsherred – the reclaimed landscapes of Lammefjord, Sidinge Fjord and Klintsø. These three landscapes are a big part of Odsherred’s identity as they represent three out of four Geoapark themes; landscape, cultural history, and produce, but they lack communication. 20% of Odsherred is reclaimed land. Land reclamation has been going on for over 125 years and is still an ongoing process, as the water needs to be pumped out and up to the sea level.

While the geological formations are visible the cultural history, can be hard to perceive and understand. Moreover, the areas are privately owned and farmed by farmers, which make it difficult to access them. Today most of the trails are running along the public roads and coastlines. There is a big potential for re-routing and connecting the existing hiking trails by adding new ones that will go through or along the reclaimed areas. In all the three areas the trails will lead through the sites where the land reclamation is most visible and understandable such as; pumping stations, dikes, canals, ditches and historical shorelines. While the approach is similar, the concrete design differs according to considering the geological history, scale, and various sites representing the drainage.
Klintsø is a drained lake. While it doesn’t have a dramatic dike and a sea level difference, it still bears evidence of drainage history, as you still see the border of the lake in the landscape today. Therefore, the hiking path is running on the former shoreline of the lake which will create the possibility to experience the size and historical traces of Klintsø. Along the path the visitor will pass by a pipe that leads the pumped water to the sea, canals and most importantly experience what was water before and land now. Small interventions such as a tree line connecting the pipe to the Klintsø’s outlet canal and a symbolic line on the ground at Klintsøgård Efterskole will mark the former border of Klintsø.

EN BÆREDYGTIG VANDMASKINE Det inddæmmede landområde, Lammefjorden, har et potentiale til at blive en geo-seværdighed i Geopark Odsherred. Området byder på en rig geologisk historie som er dannet under sidste istid, hvilket tydeligt ses i landskabet; bag den forhenværende havbund rejser de karakteriske morænebakker sig. Lammefjorden er en vigtig del af kulturhistorien og er også kendt for sine lokale produkter i form af Lammefjorden Grøntsager. Dette er essensen af områdets identitet. Det inddæmmede område kan i bund og grund ses som én stor “vandmaskine”. Vandstanden styres af Audebo pumpestation,hvor vandet pumpes syv meter op og derefter videre ud i Isefjorden. Den gamle kystlinje er en ringkanal, som forhindrer vandet fra morænebakkerne i at flyde ned i den inddæmmede Lammefjord. I dag er Lammefjorden et svært tilgængeligt naturområde for folk at besøge, på grund af det intensive landbrug. Området står overfor massive miljømæssige udfordringer; ved intensivt landbrug løsgives metangasser i luften, alt imens nitrat og pesticider flyder ud i havet. I nogle områder har det intensive landbrug ført til synkende jordbundsforhold, mens andre områder allerede er for våde til at dyrke. Øgede regnskyl og klimaændringer vil i fremtiden kun forstærke disse problemer. Det betyder, at ”vandmaskinen” har brug for nye tiltag, for at kunne opretholde landbruget og imødekomme de miljømæssige udfordringer. Odsherred Kommunes foreslår at tilføje en ny pumpestation i den vestlige ende af Lammefjorden, for at aflaste den eksisterende. I dette projekt foreslås et mere bæredygtigt alternativ. Projektet anvender to forskellige strategier som stræber efter at forbedre de vanemæssige udfordringer. Målet er at etablere en sund og mere bæredygtig vandmaskine. Den første strategi har fokus på en bæredygtig fødevareproduktion i den vestlige del af Lam-
mefjorden, hvor de synkende jordbundsforhold er den største udfordring. Den anden strategi har fokus på at styrke det naturlige landskab i øst, hvor jorden er for våd til at opdyrke. Det bæredygtige landbrugsområde ved Brogaard i den vestlige del af Lammefjorden er udgangspunktet i den første strategi. Gården og produktionen er allerede delvist økologisk, og derfor har specielt dette område potentialet for en miljøvenlig udvikling. Landskabet omdannes ved at åbne de rørlagte dræn og derved skabe mere overfladevand. Her vil være forskellige randzoner; nogle med rekreative stier, hvor folk kan nyde og lære af det økologisk opdyrkede landskab, og nogle med mindre grøfter som adskiller markerne. Brogaard vil være et midtpunkt med en økologisk gårdbutik og muligheder for både tryout-farming, farm-camp og crop walk n’ talk. Den anden strategi fokuserer på den østlige del af Lammefjorden. Her øges det våde naturområde. Kanalen inde i området vil delvist blive udviklet til et vådområde, hvor forskellige metoder for vandrensning vil hjælpe på vandkvaliteten. Et rekreativt stisystem vil tillade folk at få adgang til området, og komme helt tæt på naturen, hvor de kan nyde både den kunstige og den naturlige ”vandmaskine”. På Audebo Pumpstation Museum er det muligt at opleve historien om dræningen af Lammefjorden, som vil være et perfekt udgangspunkt for en guidet tur i vådområdet. Alle besøgende til Geopark Odsherred ankommer gennem Lammefjorden hvorfor dette område ville være en ideel hovedindgang til hele geoparken. Lokalbefolkningen og besøgende vil opleve den særlige atmosfære i Lammefjorden og nemt have adgang til både natur- og produktionslandskaber. Den rige historie og bæredygtige udvikling af ”vandmaskinen” vil gøre Lammefjorden til en vigtig geo-seværdighed.
TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE WATERMACHINE The reclaimed land of Lammefjord has the potential to be a major geo-site within the Geopark Odsherred. It offers a rich geological history which is shown in the contrasting landscape formed during the last ice age; behind the flat seabed of the fjord rise the moraine hills of the Vejrhøj arches. The man-made reclaimed land represents an important cultural history and is well known for the local produce of Lammefjord Vegetables, which is the essence of the area’s identity. The reclaimed area is basically a huge ‘Watermachine’. The water level in the inlands of Lammefjord is controlled by the Audebo pump, where the water is pumped seven meters up and out into Isefjord. The old coastline is now a ring canal which prevents water from the moraine hills to flow into Lammefjord. Today Lammefjord is not very accessible and inviting for people to visit due to intensive farming. The area is facing massive environmental challenges; methane erupts into the air from the farm seabed and nitrate and pesticides flow into the sea. In some areas the intensive farming has led to sinking soils while other areas are simply too wet to cultivate. Increased rainfalls will only intensify these problems in the future. This means that the watermachine needs innovation to keep up the farming and to meet the environmental challenges. Odsherred Municipality proposes an additional pump station in the west of Lammefjord to relieve the existing one. This project is proposing a more sustainable alternative. The project applies two different strategies which strive to improve water challenges in the effort to establish a healthy sustainable watermachine. The first strategy is centered on sustainable food production in the west area of the Lammefjord where the sinking soil is the most problematic challenge. The second strategy focuses on reinforcing nature
into the landscape in the east, where the soil is too wet to farm. The Sustainable farming area at Brogaard farm in the west of the Lammefjord is the starting point. It is already partly ecological and therefore it has the potential of further development in this direction. The landscape will be transformed by opening up old ditches and making more surface drainage. These will have different buffer zones; some with recreational pathways where people can enjoy and learn from the ecological farming landscape, some with smaller ditches separating the fields. The Brogaard farm will be a farm center with an ecological farm shop and possibilities for try-out-farming, farm-camp and crop walk n’ talks. The Wetland area in the east of the Lammefjord will be transformed by reinforcing a wetland landscape. The water canal will partly develop into a wetland area, where different methods of water purification will clean the outflow of water. A recreational path system will allow people to access the area, where they can learn from and enjoy both the artificial and the natural ‘watermachine’. It is possible to experience the history of the drainage of the Lammefjord at the museum at the Audebo Pumpstation, which will be a nice starting point for a guided tour into the wetland area. Many visitors enter the Geopark Odsherred through the Lammefjord; therefore this area would be ideal as an entrance for the whole of the Geopark. Locals and visitors will experience the special atmosphere of the Lammefjord and easily access both nature and production landscape. The rich history and the sustainable development of the ‘watermachine’ stipulates Lammefjord as a major geo-site.

The Lammefjord is an important geological site in Odsherred Municipality. Placed right next to Vejrhøj, the 121m tall iceage ridge, the contrasting flat landscape of Lammefjord is easily experienced. Most visitors will enter Odsherred Geopark through Lammefjord, and with its geological heritage the area would be ideal for presenting the history of the whole geosite.

The Municipality of Odsherred works with four themes in promoting the Geopark, namely Landscape, Cultural heritage and Art and Produce. In this project the local produce is the most important one. The landscape was created during the last ice age and has a high impact on how life is lived in the Lammefjord today. The area has been successful in creating a brand for the produce. Especially the Lammefjord Carrots, which is sold throughout Denmark.

The area of Lammefjord is kept dry by a system of drains and by the Audebo Pumpstation. The ring canal, running all the way around the edge of the fjord, collects the water from surrounding ridges and transports it to the sea. The inner canals drain the farmland. TWO SITES - TWO STRATEGIES
A SUSTAINABLE WATERMACHINE
The project applies two different strategies. The Brogaard Sustainable Farming strategy is centred on sustainable food production in the west area of Lammefjord, which is most affected by the sinking soils. This strategy is a more sustainable alternative to the planned additional pumpstation in the area. This area is already partly ecologically cultivated and is therefor a solid starting point. By opening up and getting more surface waterdrains, this project strives to improve the sinking soil issue.

The Lammefjord Wetlands strategy in the east focuses on re-creating a wetland landscape in an area, where it is now too wet to cultivate. Very importantly, the wetland area will improve the water quality before it is pumped out into the sea of Isefjord.

The starting point for this development will be the farm Brogaard situated in the west of Lammefjord. The owner Boje Skytte is already partly cultivating his land ecologically. The landscape will be transformed by opening up old ditches and making more surface drains. These ditches will have different buffer
zones, some with recreational paths where people can enjoy and learn from the farming landscape. Brogaard will be inviting for people to visit, with an organic farm shop and possibilities for try-out-farming and farm-camping.

This area was the last to be drained, and the first to be wet again. In this project different ways of cleaning water was investigated and the following guidelines were used: water transport delay, oxygen input, wider banks and water filtration with plants.

The new Lammefjord wetlands will be transformed by recreating a nature area. The water canal will partly develop into a wetland area, where different methods of water purification will clean the outflowing water. GENOPDAG SOLVOGNEN I TRUNDHOLM MOSE Projektet tager udgangspunkt i initiativet om at skabe en destination for Geoparken, hvor de besøgende kan opleve findestedet for det betydningsfulde nationalklenodie fra bronzealderen, nemlig Solvognen.
Projektets strategi er at benytte et minimalt antal midler, for at opnå den maksimalt muligt effekt, der vil gavne Geoparken og dens lokale beboere. Designinterventionerne er diskrete, og peger frem mod det allerede eksisterende landskab. En simpel „boardwalk“ til Solvognens findested, hjælper den besøgende med at kunne opleve mosens mystiske kvaliteter, og til at kunne genkalde sig de historiske værdier. De nyplantede træer hjælper med at omgive Solvognens findested og gøre det til en stærk oplevelse, at opdage stedet for de nyankomne besøgende. De årstidsbestemte oversvømmelser om vinteren på stedet, bidrager til oplevelsen af et rituelt og mysisk offersted, og om sommeren vil jorden være tør og „Boardwalken“ kan benyttes som siddeplads.
Den arkæologiske betydning af stedet bliver nyfortolket, så den skaber et nyt fokus på landskabet i sig selv. Strategien bringer dermed nyt liv til Unesco Geoparkens generelle mål om at skabe bæredygtig udvikling, og oplyse om miljømæssige udfordringer. Projektet realiserer Trundholm moses potentiale for at blive et naturareal, der fortæller historien om dets egen tilblivelse og samtidig skaber associationer tilbage til den kulturelle historie om Bronzealderens ritualer, der engang foregik på stedet. Samtidig åbner det op for både udefrakommende gæster, de lokales og sommerhusgæsternes adgang til området. Reetableringen af Bronzealderlandskabet fortæller ikke kun historier fra områdets geologiske og kulturelle fortid men er også et nødvendigt skridt set i lyset af udfordringerne ved klimaforandringerne og for at forhindre et yderligere tab af biodiversitet, der truer områdets fremtid.
Referencen til soldiskene er reflekteret som en anden intervention i mosens vådområder, og er inspireret af den runde solfigur fra Solvognen. Soldiskene giver den besøgende muligheden for at kunne finde dem som en hengemt skat i landskabet. Fra disse soldisk-platforme kan landskabet blive opserveret fra et anderledes perspektiv, der peger på landskabet som sin egen nyopfundne skat. Denne tætte landskabsoplevelse er en kontrast til fugleudkigsposterne, som giver muligheden for at observere mosens og engenes fugleliv fra oven. Mosens oplevelse af at blive tæt omsluttet af de høje tagrør og finde det mystiske findested for Solvognen, er især en spændende oplevelse om vinteren, mens engenes diversitet i plante og dyreliv, bedst kan opleves og udforskes i sommerhalvåret. Projektet trækker dermed opmærksomheden på årstidernes skiften og giver forskellige oplevelser for både sommer- og vintergæster.
De adskilte marker som ikke længere har en høj landbrugsværdi, bliver givet tilbage til naturen for at kunne beskytte de unikke naturtyper, såsom moser, tørre enge og våde enge. Projektet løser også problemer med de manglende stiforbindelser til Solvognens findested, som derved vil forbedre adgansforholdene, samtidig med at det vil forbedre de landskabelige oplevelser, f.eks vandre i engene, krydse mosens vådområder og observere landskabets kvaliteter. Dette opleves ved at tage solvognsruten mod sommerhusområdet i Ellingelyng, eller Nr. Asminderup Station og videre frem mod den planlagte nye Højderygssti.

Seasonal flooding allows the Finding Place of the Sun Chariot to be discovered as a waterbody which has been used for a Bronze Age ritual. In the summer the land is dry, and groups of people can gather and use the boardwalk as bench.
The archeological importance of the site is re-interpreted to highlight the landscape itself. This strategy revitalises the aims of a Unesco Geopark for sustainable development and raising awareness of environmental issues. The project fulfills the potential of Trundholm Mose to become a nature area which tells the story of bogs being used as Bronze Age ritual sites, as well as providing access to nature for the local citizens and summerhouse guests. The re-establishment of a Bronze Age landscape not only communicates the history, but it is a necessary step in face of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Inspired by the shape of Bronze Age sun discs the Sun disc platforms provide the visitors with an opportunity to pause and experience the restored wetlands, pointing to the new found treasure – the landscape itself. This close experience in the landscape is contrasted by a birdwatching tower which allows to overlook the diverse bird life in the nature areas.
The fragmented fields which no longer serve a purpose for agriculture are returned to nature, protecting and establishing wetlands and meadows. The project also solves accessibility problems by completing existing paths to the finding place of the Sun Chariot, whilst enhancing the diverse landscape experiences – walking in meadows, crossing wetlands and observing the landscape qualities. This can be experienced by taking the Sun Chariot Route, a round trip connecting places of interest. New connections from the Sun Chariot Route to Ellinge Lyng summerhouse area, Nr. Asmindrup Station and further to the planned Geopark Ridge Path are made.
The two key interventions – Finding Place of the Sun Chariot and Sun Chariot Route – draw attention to the changing seasons and provide different experiences for summer and winter visitors. The wetland experiences of being enclosed by the tall reeds and discovering the mystical Finding Place of the Sun Chariot are best in the winter season. The diversity of the meadow plant and animal life can be best perceived in the summer.
Minimal interventions provide maximal benefit for the Geopark and local residents; subtle design elements emphasise the already existing landscape qualities. A simple boardwalk at the finding place of the Sun Chariot helps the visitors to experience the mystical qualties of a bog and to consider its historical value. Newly planted trees en48

A PLANNED GEOPARK DESTINATION The Geopark interest in Trundholm Mose has been to establish a destination for visitors to see the finding place of the Sun Chariot. The Bronze Age people who lived in Odsherred worshipped the sun as a life giving source. During this time objects of great value were deposited in bogs and lakes as ritual offerings to the powers above. The Sun Chariot is a national treasure iconic of the Bronze Age. It illustrates the idea that the sun was drawn on its eternal journey by a divine horse. It could have been used in rituals to illustrate the motion of the sun.

Trundholm Mose mainly consists of agricultural fields which are used for hay production and hunting. Some plot boundaries are marked by hedgerows indicating the old canal structure. Today only a few areas are used for intensive crop production and grazing. Among the fields there are fragmented wet and dry meadows as well as wetlands. The most waterlogged areas can be recognised by tall cattails.

Sinking soils and rising waterlevels due to climate changes and too intensive drainage leads to flooding of fields. This causes fertilizers to enter the watersystem and canals.
The A21 is a barrier in the landscape for the canals and wetlands to be connected. The current land use further adds to the fragmentation of nature areas.
Because of the habitat fragmentation, pollution and unfulfilling management the nature is very homogenous, and new rare species have little opportunity to inhabit the bog and survive.
The fertilizers that are washed out in the canal system are slowed down because of the lack of water stream. This causes algae to flourish in the still water leading to eutrophication.

Since Trundholm Mose turned into a bog the farmers began to seek interest in establishing new grasslands for the production of winter feed for the livestock. The bog was drained in 1799.
The Sun Chariot was found in 1902 when the fields were first ploughed. During the 20th century a more intensive drainage system has been introduced to support the growing agricultural use of Trundholm Mose. At this time the fields were divided and sold to private owners.
Today parts of the area are suffering from severe flooding due to the agricultural use over the past 100 years. Many lots are not used any longer and have lost their agricultural value. Today the area is mainly used for hunting and recreation. There are still grass fields and few farmed areas.

The finding place of the Sun Chariot is inaccessible by foot from the nearest village. The main routes leading to the bog prohibit pedestrians and cyclists. The only access route to the finding place of the Sun Chariot is Trundholm Mosevej. The local inhabitants in Nr. Asmindrup are surrounded by farmland but have little access to nature. The only common green space in the village is Byens Bakke, a recent community project funded by the municipality. It is located in close proximity to the planned Geopark Ridge Path. The finding place of the Sun Chariot is also cut off from Ellinge Lyng by the A21 expressway.

NEW GREEN CONNECTION UNDER THE A21 ROAD
By re-establishing a more natural canal system, with a meandering canal instead of a straight canal, it will give the opportunity for the biological and ecological proccesses to both clean the water from pollutants, and bring more life back in the canal system. By ensuring a buffer zone on each side of the canal, the nearby fields will be protected from flooding, as the canal will have enough space to form its curves according to water pressure and weather.
Providing opportunities for the wetland wildlife to cross beneath the road will decrease the nature area fragmentation. The established canal buffer zone would be visible from the A21 road. This could raise the awareness of Trundholm Mose as a nature area.

EXPERIENCING THE NATURE FROM ABOVE A new experience is provided by a bird watch tower. Half hidden in the lines of trees, it invites the visitors to look out over the bird life of the bog. Its position along the Sun Chariot Route encourages people to take the trip and experience diverse nature types on the way to the Finding Place of the Sun Chariot. From the birdwatcing tower, the visitor gains a new insight into the three characteristic nature types of Trundholm Mose. Each nature area has its own characteristic rare bird species.

CLOSE EXPERIENCE OF THE WETLANDS The Sun disc platforms hidden in the wetlands reflect the shape of the Sun disc often depicted in the Bronze Age. They allow the visitor to discover a treasure in the landscape and provide a different experience, emphasising the unique landscape qualities in Trundholm Mose. While gaining the opportunity to observe the surrounding insect and plantlife when sitting on the sun discs, there is also the chance to spot rare animal and plant types in the bog, for example, the warty newt and the moor frog, which is appointed as internationally protected animal species, also known as appendix IV-species.

The Sun Chariot finding place today is marked by a stone, which is flooded most of the year. It is situated close to the A21 expressway, where the open fields are creating a vast solitary atmosphere. Behind the finding place there is an old wooded bog. It is uninviting to the visitors, but gives a melancholic feeling from the lost history of the Bronze Age. Despite the slight traffic noise, there is a solitary and mystical atmosphere which is enhanced by this project.

The bog is enclosed from the open meadows and the A21 expressway by new light canopied trees. The path through the meadows hints at a destination in the wooded bog. A single boardwalk leads the visitors into the bog allowing to walk around and experience the mystical qualities of a Bronze Age ritual site. From September to May every year the finding place is flooded, adding to the essential experinece of a bog, and making the trip worthwhile in winter. The boardwalk is built around the stone which marks the historic finding of the Sun Chariot. Its position ensures that the stone is close to the path encouraging visitors to walk around the boardwalk, yet unreachable during the winter season. The finding place is completely transformed in summer, when the ground is dry, and visitors can sit on the boardwalk around the stone and hear about the Bronze Age history. Walking through the small bog, the visitors arrive at the Sun Chariot Route and are invited to experience more of the Trundholm Mose landscape.

KOREVLERNE GEOCOMMUNITY Korevlerne GeoCommunity er et forslag til at genoplive det lokale fællesskab i Danmarks største koncentration af sommerhuse. Dette fællesskab vil blive udviklet som et eksempel på hvordan man bevarer det naturlige landskab og hvor bæredygtig livsstil og aktive fællesskaber spiller en hovedrolle. Korevlerne GeoCommunity ligger på den vestlige side af Odsherred Kommune på Sjælland og består af 15.000 sommerhuse. Det er et unikt sted hvor mange forskellige naturtyper kan opleves, både strand, skov, hede og mark. Området er under konstant forandring af Vestenvinden der eroderer kysten langs Sejerøbugten og transporterer og deponerer sand og grus. Denne proces har skabt de karakteristiske strandvolde som bliver kaldt Korevlerne.Korevlerne er en del af den første UNESCO certificerede Geopark i Danmark. At Odsherred nu er en Geopark kan forhåbentlig bidrage til Odsherreds kommunes strategi til at gøre området mere attraktivt for tilflyttere. Sommerhusområdet er med tiden blevet opdelt af veje, hegn og hække. Og en række invasive og ikke hjemmehørende arter er blevet introduceret på baggrund af beboernes manglende tilhørsforhold til områdets natur. Korevlerne GeoCommunitys formål er at imødegå disse udfordringer og bringe naturen tilbage til området. For at få landskabet tilbage til det historisk naturlige udtryk, bliver der lagt vægt på at bruge hjemmehørende arter på sommerhusgrundene, der styrker det naturlige miljø. I øjeblikket arbejder Jørgen Stoltz med at formidle og give råd til folk om hvordan de kan vedligeholde deres sommerhusgrunde som naturgrunde, frem for at de får restriktioner fra kommunen. Han udvikler omfattende vedligeholdelsesstrategier, som opmuntrer sommerhusejere og grundejerforeninger til at agere som naturens forvaltere. Dette medfører en bedre økologi, og et stærkere fællesskab gennem naturen. Derudover har det den
fordel at de grunde der ligger i et mere naturligt landskab bliver vurderet til en højere salgsværdi. Et andet problem som området har, er at der mangler aktiviteter så vel som mødesteder hvor disse aktiviteter kan foregå. Dette er forværret i og med at der ikke er nogen klar og direkte vej mellem sommerhusene og stranden, det der er nu er et forvirrende netværk at grusveje og uattraktive samlingssteder. For at bygge dette Geocommunity har vi tænkt os at starte med at genbruge allerede eksisterende samlingssteder. Vores idé er at genbruge en af de inaktive grunde på Lyngvej og genetablere det som et mødested og et marked, hvor man kan købe lokalt producerede varer. Denne udvikling skal også fungere som et samlingssted med en sikker adgang for fodgængere, cyklister og biler. Det andet sted vi har valgt at arbejde med er Hønsinge mølle, som skal fungere som et lokalt kendetegn. Her bliver der etableret en lokal café, og et udkigspunkt, som skal fungere som et samlingssted for både tourister og lokale beboere i området. Fra udkigspunktet er det meningen at man kan se hvordan kysten har udviklet sig gennem tiden fra et lidt højere synspunkt. I området med parceller ved Lyngvej opstartes workshops der introducerer principperne om naturgrunde. I gennem denne dialog, kan beboerne opnå viden om hvordan at de skal drifte deres grunde på en måde så mindre attraktive elementer som fx. Hække og hegn undgås og det naturlige landskab kan blive genintroduceret. De vil opnå vviden om at blive bedre land stewards og transformere deres grunde til attraktive naturgrunde. Denne proces startes op lokalt, fx. på grunde der har været til salg i lang tid i samarbejde med Silva Danica. Dette vil forhåbentlig starte en sneboldseffekt der skaber et mere sammenhængende landskab.
KOREVLERNE GEOCOMMUNITY Korevlerne Geocommunity proposes to reignite the community within Denmark’s highest concentration of summer cottages. The community will be developed as an exemplary development where conservation of the land, environmentally friendly living and participatory resident engagement play a key role. The Korevlerne Geocommunity is situated on the western coastline of Odsherred Municipality in Sjaelland and consists of 15.000 summer cottages. This is a unique area where many landscape types – beach, woods, heathland, farmland – can be experienced from coast to inland. The area is continuously being formed by westerly winds and currents that erode the coast, transporting and depositing sand. Ultimately this creates prominent beach ridges, and what today is called Korevlerne (Cow Reef). Furthermore, Korevlerne is situated near the first UNESCO certified Geopark in Denmark. The establishment of the Geopark Odsherred has been devised in a way that helps the diminishing Odsherred municipality to reflourish. This summer cottage landscape has become fragmented by roads, fencing and non-native species, which results in a lack of identity. Korevlerne Geocommunity works going back in time and eliminating such divisive implementations. Hence, in order to return the landscape to its natura l and cohesive state, an emphasis on the use of native flora within the properties and the surrounding environment is encouraged. Currently Jørgen Stoltz - founder of Silva Danica- is advocating a nature maintenance initiative that promotes bottom-up nature maintenance. He provides comprehensive management strategies, which encourage the summer cottage owners and associations to act as nature’s caretakers. This equates to better ecology and a community that is unified through nature. Further, property prices increase as plots that
are closer to endemic nature tend to be evaluated at higher values. Another issue the community faces is an absence of activities as well as centers for these activities to occur. This is further exacerbated by inadequate access to the beach and between the summer cottages due to a confusing network of gravel roads and unattractive nodes. Building the Geocommunity will begin by reusing the nodes we have chosen to work with. Beginning with the unused property along Lyngvej, the plot will be reestablished as a buzzing market place that sells local produce and allows for casual dining opportunities. The development will also serve as a unifying node with safe access for the pedestrian, cyclist, bus user or automobile driver. The next design intervention will occur at Hønsinge Mill historical landmark. Currently unused, the mill will be reused as a local café where visitors or residents of the area can stop for a rest when wandering through the paths of the area. The mill will also serve as a viewpoint so one can experience the varying coastal formations from a higher elevation. Finally, it will double as a community hall for the residents of the area - the use of Hønsinge Mill will improve the sense of community one feels. The parcelled cottage area along Lyngvej will begin with participatory education workshops. Through this dialogue, the cottage owners will learn how to manage their properties in a way that brings down barriers such as unattractive fencing and hedges, and reintroduces the natural landscape. They will learn how to engage in a process that will teach them how to become better land stewards and transform their properties into attractive nature grounds. This process will begin with few property owners - such as is occurring now with the guidance of Silva Danica - but will create a snowball effect and eventually create a unified landscape with a cohesive network of nature grounds. 58

The area is characterized by a disordered network of gravel roads, private roads and lack of signage. And the beach is the only public space.
The site is covered by a network of hidden streams and ditches and contains a lot of inaccessible biotypes and interesting wetlands.
A few restaurants and a super marked are the only activities and the only landmark is the historic mill in the small village of Hønsinge on the border of the cabin area.

ACTORS KOREVLERNE GEOCOMMUNITY Jørgen Stoltz is a nature-interpretor and guide who seeks to preserve the native landscape in Odsherred. Some of his innitiavtives include arranging tours of the area, called “Spis Naturen” (Eating Nature) where the participants search the landscape for ingredients, which are then gathered and shared in a delicious local meal at the end of the trip. Article from Odsherred Ugeavis – 19th of March 2014 Destroyed summer cottage gardens A large part of the nature in Odsherred is situated in the summer cottage areas, so it doesn’t make sense to arrange the gardens as villa gardens. I don’t understand people, who hire landscapers to create such uninspiring spaces consisting of foreign plants, hedges and fences. Not only does it destroy the native landscape, but it requires a lot of maintenance. It is easy to create a low maintenance garden with a lot of privacy, which consists of the native flora in the area, says Jørgen Stoltz. He loves to visit different community associations and inspire people with his work. Further,
he enjoys collaborating with the local plant-nurseries who share the same interests in keeping the local native plant species in the area. Many ideals Jørgen states that he has a big wish, which is that Denmark will develop a more exciting natural landscape. It is currrently a bit dissapointing to see that there aren’t a lot of others working with the summer cottage properties and developing it with respect for the nature they are situated in. A growth in practices such as Silva Danica’s would become a positive influence on the Danish natural landscape, says the 63 year old nature-guide, who would like to continue promoting and developing his projects and inspiring others.
Geopark Odseherred is Denmark’s first geopark and has recently become UNESCO certified. Through the Geopark’s attractions one can experience the history of the landscape, cultural history, local art and produce – everything that makes the whole of Odsherred unique. One of the Geoparks main efforts aim to educate local residents and visitors in the area about the special features mentioned above. Some actions include the establishment of Geokids, which consists of art projects and educational programs catered for primary school pupils in Odsherred and run by local artists. The result is citizens that become more aware of their surrounding environment, which therefore can lead to a population that takes better care of their landscape.

The Korevlerne Geocommunity will be part of the Municipality of Odsherred – an area that seeks to attract people who choose to live “the good life”. The main website of the municipality presents the dream that here nature isn’t something that you make an excurision to go to, it is something you simply open the door to. The Municipality of Odsherred does not have an easy task due to the heavy fluctuaion of residents from summer to winter. Further, it is Denmark’s largest concentration of summer cabins. In the summer, the permanent population of 33.000 increases to more than 100.000 seasonal residents. The Municpality closely collaborates with Geopark Odsherred as a way to reignite the area, introduce conservation efforts, and create more reasons to visit the area.
These actors are a huge driving force behind the inspiration and further development of the Korevlerne Geocommunity. Silva Danica’s methods of blending private properties with the native landscape is one of the Geocommunity’s main priorities in order to retain the native flora and fauna of the area. Further, this creates a nicely flowing landscape which brings citizens together rather than dividing with unnatractive fencing and hedges. The goal is to integrate the cabins into nature rather than having plot boundaries dominating the area. Geopark Odsherred can support bringing about an increased pride to live in such a unique lanscape. Further, the cabin owners can benefit with an icreased array of activities to choose from. The Municipality of Odsherred could benefit from the development of the Geocommunity in terms of an increase in permanent residents, as well as an increasingly endemic landscape throughout private properties.

NORDISK CENTER FOR LOKALE FØDEVARER – EN LANDSKABSOPLEVELSE Dette projekt forslår at placere det nye Nordiske Center For Lokale Fødevarer (NCLF) på Dragsholm Slot som en integreret del af Geopark Odsherred. Vores vision er at forbinde folk med landskabet gennem fødevarerelaterede aktiviteter.
NCLF vil bestå af tre hovedkomponenter: Madeksperimentarium (forskning), madakademi (uddannelse) og madhus (offentlig fællesskab). Staldbygningerne ved Dragsholm Slot vil blive renoveret og ombygget til forskningslaboratorier, undervisningsfaciliteter, demonstrationshaver, et besøgsventer og en café. Gårdspladsen vil rumme en bred vifte af udendørsaktiviteter såsom markeder og unikke udendørs spiseoplevelser. Et udvidet og forbedret stisystem vil skabe bedre sammenhæng mellem Dragsholm og de omgivende karakteristiske landskaber - stranden og havet, Vejrhøjbuen og Lammefjordens inddæmmede landskab. Dette vil samtidig give besøgende bedre muligheder for at opleve hvordan vilde spiselige planter gror i naturen og hvordan lokale fødevarer bliver dyrket på marken. I Lammefjorden vil der blive etableret forsøgsmarker, hvor eksperimentelle metoder til landbrugsproduktion kan afprøves og formidles.
Det nordiske køkken er blevet et verdensomspændende kulinarisk fænomen, som allerede nu drager globale interessenter til Odsherred. At integrere NCLF med Geoparken på Dragsholm vil skabe nye muligheder for at fordybe sig i det landskab som er grundlaget for det nordiske køkken. Mange eksisterende fødevareinitiativer er koncentreret i nærheden af Dragsholm Slot, hvor Mads Bøttger driver en verdensberømt nordisk restaurant og hotel. Guidede toure efter vilde planter, Lammefjordens grønsagsproduktion, vinmarker og butikker der sælger lokale fødevarer er blot nogle eksempler. Ved at placere NCLF på Dragsholm Slot vil der kunne opstå stor synergieffekt med de eksisterende initiativer.
Endelig vil mobile multifunktionelle elementer blive placeret i landskabet langs med eksisterende og nye stier for at vise vej til steder med gode muligheder for at samle vilde spiselige planter. Elementerne vil forvaltes af NCLF for at sikre betænksom plantesamling kun på steder hvor der er rigelig med vilde planter. Sidst men ikke mindst vil elementerne invitere til at stoppe op og opleve Odsherreds unikke og dramatiske landskab.
Dragsholm Slot er allerede i dag en central indgang til Geoparken i kraft af sin beliggenhed mellem tre karakteristike landskaber. Desuden har stedet stor historisk og kulturel betydning som indgangen til hele Odsherred før Lammefjorden blev inddæmmet. Endelig kan eksisterende, funktionstømte staldbygninger genbruges for at skabe verdens førende forsknings- og udviklingscenter for nordisk mad på Dragsholm.
THE NORDIC FOOD CENTER – A LANDSCAPE EXPERIENCE This project proposes to locate The Nordic Food Center (NFC) at Dragsholm Castle as an integrated part of the Geopark Odsherred. Our vision is to connect people to the landscape through food related activities.
The Nordic Food Center will have three main components. The food laboratory (research), the food academy (education) and the food house (community). The unused stables at Dragsholm will be renovated to accommodate research laboratories, teaching facilities, demonstration gardens, a welcome center and a cafe. These features surround a courtyard which gives room for a variety of activities such as markets and unique outdoor dining experiences. By improving and expanding the existing path network the castle will be better integrated with the surrounding landscape and the three distinctive landscapes - the beach and the sea, the Vejrhøj arch and the reclaimed Lammefjord - will be tyed together. This offers hikers and foragers a closer experience of the wild and man-made food processes occurring within the landscape. In the Lammefjord, test fields will be designated for experimental methods in agricultural food production and educational purposes.
The Nordic cuisine has become one of the world’s most popular culinary experiences which already draws a varied global community to Odsherred. Integrating the Nordic Food Center with the Geopark at Dragsholm Castle opens up an opportunity for people to immerse themselves in the landscape which is the basis for Nordic food. Many food related initiatives are concentrated in close proximity of Dragsholm castle where Mads Bøttger runs a world-famous Nordic restaurant. Foraging tours, the Lammefjord farmland, farm shops selling locally grown produce and vineyards are just some of the existing activities. By locating the NFC at Dragsholm we see the existing initiatives as benefiting from the NFC and vice versa.
Furthermore, small-scaled removable multi-purpose elements will be placed in the landscape along existing and proposed paths. To an educated eye, these dynamic interventions will symbolise foraging opportunities within the local vicinity as well as a way-finding tool for trails and foraging tours. These elements, managed by the NFC, will ensure sensitive foraging through attentive monitoring of abundance of wild edible plants. Additionally, they offer an opportunity for hikers to pause and experience the unique and dramatic landscape Odsherred has to offer.
Dragsholm Castle is a central access point to the Geopark Odsherred located at the meeting point of the Geopark’s three distinctive landscape characters. Moreover the site has great historical and cultural significance as it was the only access to Odsherred before the Lammefjord was drained.The Vikings also used to drag their boats between Isefjord and Samsø Bælt. Finally, existing vacant stables could be reused to accommodate the world’s leading research and development center of Nordic food at Dragsholm. 66

HOW ARE THE RESEARCH FIELDS FARMED? Year one - Research hypothesis are tested on a one-hectare test-field. Samples are small (a few rows) and can therefore only be farmed by hand. Three to five employees are needed. Year two and three - Farming techniques with promising results are tested on a larger scale and produced industrially (e.g.: mechanised) to confirm findings. Test fields should be over 1,000m2 for findings to be considered valid. Year 1
