HERE WE GO AGAIN! When I was little, before I could understand English, there came a movie called “Mamma Mia!”. It became one of my favorite movies because of all the dancing and singing. That I never really understood what the movie was about was not a problem. When I heard that it would be a follow-up movie I could barely wait for it. In 2018 July 16 it finally came “Mamma Mia! Here we go again”. “Mamma Mia!” came out in 2008 and it took ten years to make the follow-up film “Mamma Mia! Here we go again”. The second movie is directed by Oliver "Ol" Parker. It is not the same as the first film where Phyllida Lloyd is the director. If you have not seen the first movie it is hard to like the second one because it is all about how the characters turned out after the movie and before the movie. Both movies are musicals with a lot of singing in them. The songs that is used in the movie are only songs that where produced by the band Abba. The band is a Swedish pop group and was formed in 1972 in Stockholm, so the music Is not from this century. In the movie it is the actors who are singing the songs which makes it more realistic and the difference between singing and ordinary conversation is not so big. Almost all the main characters in the first movie are in the second movie, some even in more ways than one. In the first film you see Donnas perspective and get to follow along when her daughter Sophie, gets married. The second time around the directors decide that Donna have died between the movies, so Sophie becomes the main character. The movie also travels in time and the flashbacks are from before Sophie was born where you once again get to see Donna in the centrum. I believe it clarifies a lot of questions about why the characters act in a certain way and by that makes them even better than they were in the first movie. On the other hand, there are a lot of new questions that shows up. Characters that we have never seen before turning up and a plot twist that you never thought would come. Mamma Mia! here we go again is about Sophie and the hotel she grew up on and now owned because of Donna passing away. Sophie are going to reopen the hotel after a big renovation and there is going to be a big opening ceremony. Attending to the ceremony are important reporters and press that they need for the hotel. Not attending however is her husband Sky and two of her dads, Bill and Harry who are a big part of her life. Then a warning about a storm that could destroy the opening of the whole ceremony comes it is not hard to give up.
In the flashbacks we see how a young Donna and her two best friends, Rosie and Tanya graduate from school with Donna as a valedictorian. The girls back then had their song group, and end the graduation by performing a song and then storm out without stop singing. Donna then decides that she want to see the world and goes on her own to travel. She ends up on a fancy restaurant in Paris with one of Sophie’s dads Harry and they end up spending the night. Donna then takes off to go to Greece but misses the boat to Kalokari but luckily Bill, also one of Sophie’s dads and he owns a boat so he takes Donna to the island. She arrives at the island and meet Sam, also one of Sophie’s dads, and they end up spending a lot of time together. He then leaves to be with his fiancé and Donna takes comfort with Bill. She soon realize that she is pregnant and then she is offered to go stay on the island she takes the offer. That is how she gets the hotel in the beginning and I think that you can see how much the house means to Donna and Sophie. The film gave us a background to the first movie which gave a deeper understanding to it and since I liked the first movie a lot I love this one even more. It makes the first one better and puts everything in perspective.
The Battle of the Internet On the social media platform YouTube PewDiePie has ruled as the one with the most subscribers and right now has 77 million subscribers. But around September a new channel has gained attention and it’s called T-Series which is rapidly growing faster than PewDiePie, gaining more than 5 times more subscribers a day than compared to PewDiePie.
PewDiePie's real name is Felix Kjellberg and he’s from Sweden. He started his YouTube career in 2010 playing video games while talking to the audience who were watching, he really enjoyed it and no one else were doing this which made his videos unique. Felix rose to the top with his charming personality and funny humor while playing entertaining and interesting games. Later though he stopped playing games and did more serious videos where he just talked because he didn’t feel the same joy out of recording gameplay anymore. When Felix had around 67 million subscribers T-Series started to gain attention for getting a lot of subscribers super-fast compared to an average youtuber. T-Series is an Indian Corporation who make Bollywood trailers and songs and other Bollywood related videos. They make around 3-6 videos a day which is a lot compared to an average youtuber. Because T-Series is a massive corporation they have more people working on their videos which means that they get more videos out and Youtube likes more videos so they prmote them more. That’s why most people are on Felix’s side because they don’t want YouTube to be represented by a faceless corporation which also doesn’t work when their slogan is “Broadcast Yourself” which implements that the site is for individuality. Many other solo content creators are angry about big corporations taking over and that YouTube favors big corporations compared to smaller independent channels, which make the big corporations content come up in the recommended tab and homepage more frequently.
A bad consequence of all this drama is that people start to hate on Indians since T-Series is from India, posts only Indian videos and all their millions of viewers are Indians. There were several hate comments such as “fuck Indians” and other cruel comments which was related to Indians. T-Series says that it feels like their rights have been violated and that they don’t have the same rights as an individual creator and that people have made it in to an India vs west thing. That was never Felix's intention, so he started a fund raiser to help children in India who don’t have an education or are working at young age. The fund raiser funded 165 500 British pounds which was 15500 pounds more than their goal. To show how big this event was people around the world tried to help him remain as number one. They did everything from buying billboards to hacking printers or anything that leaves the message to subscribe. Many thought this was funny but it got the wrong kind of attention from the media, they were saying that this is absurd and that he’s promoting hackers for doing the illegal act. It seems that the media just isn’t on Felix's side because they didn’t even write about his fundraiser for the children.
Now in conclusion this is all over because it went for a long while but now people lost interests when the gap between the channels became bigger and bigger. They were around 1,5 million subscribers apart so everyone thought that Felix is safe now and this event was at its prime when the gap was around 100000. - Alex Slånmark
throne of Wakanda, it´s natural resources and the chance to control the whole world is at stake.
BLACK SUPER POWERS
In the beginning of 2018 — on the 14 of February to be more precise — one special movie had its premiere in theaters all around the world. Even before the premiere, it broke record for most pre-bought tickets. This big-screen superhero movie may be the first Hollywood production ever to have an AfricanAmerican director and a mainly black cast. Even if you aren’t a movie geek you probably already know what movie I’m talking about; Black Panther.
THE MYSTIC PLACE WAKANDA The movie take place in the fictive African country Wakanda, which might seem like just another insignificant and poor country with a massive jungle and huge mountains. But that’s not the truth. Behind the “poor country frontage” a mystic place, filled with advanced technology and an enormous amount of the precious metal vibranium, is hidden. We get to follow T’Challa who´s son to the king of Wakanda. As a child he lost his father in a bomb attack (the attack is depicted in Captain America: Civil War, 2016). After T´Challas father´s death he returns to his home country Wakanda to become king and assume the title as Black Panther. But it turns out someone else got the same plans. This results in an intense fight where the
This is Marvels first movie with a black superhero headlining his own story. The huge success of Black Panther is yet another proof of how important it is with representations of ALL humans on the big screen, not only white people. But the success of this movie is also sort of problematic in one way. A movie with most black actors should be considered something normal, not outstanding. In the perfect world Black Panther would be just another marvel movie embraced by its awesomeness. Sadly, we live in a society poisoned by racism. Embracing the black community is vital — especially in the fraught climate of President Trump’s America — and therefor Black Panther is so important. Kayla Sutton, of the website Black Girl Nerds, started the viral hashtag #WhatBlackPantherMeansToMe. On twitter she writes:
NEW YEAR NEW MOVIES We´re soon heading into another year with new amazing movies, actors and directors waiting around the corner. I think and hope that the impact and importance of Black Panther will be seen in 2019’s productions. Representation of diversity should always be shown in all movies. Let´s see if the big screen during 2019 serves the world what it deserves. Linn Israelsson
Britains Royal Wedding! It’s been quite an exciting year, with annoying memes, and an exciting football world cup! Horrible celebrity deaths (rest in peace, Steven Hillburg, Stan Lee, among many others) and reading political news with a smile on my face before realising that the object of laughter is like watching the development of the hydrogen bomb, at first it’s all flashy lights and excitement before you realise that we’re all doomed.
But rather then dwelling on the Orange Man’s latest fiasco, I’d like to cover a ”momentous” event in the history of Britain and its royal family! More specifically about its newest member, the young and charming Meghan Markle! Now, what is it that makes her so special that the media wouldn’t shut up about it for three months!? Well, she’s a COMMONER, an AMERICAN commoner, an AMERICAN commoner DIVORCEE AND she’s of mixed race! I KNOW, RIGHT!?
The last time something like this happened was back in 1937, when Wallis Simpson (an American woman who found herself in a similar position to our dear Meghan Markle) married King Edward VIII. The marriage caused a constitutional crisis which forced Edward to abdicate the throne. But Mrs Markle (or should I say ”The Duchess of Sussex” has two things working in her favour, firstly. Her husband isn’t a bloody nazi suspected of collaborating with a heavily militarising expanding power (though Prince Harry could certainly fill the stinking shoes of his late relative if he so desired), and secondly, we live in happier, more enlightened times! The only people who still give a toss about a persons ethnicity or background are old people who fondly remember British rule in Aden, these people are more commonly known as ”lowlife thrash”.
In the end though, it is yet another wedding between yet another man, and women who will grow up to have yet another kid. The only difference with this marriage is that their surname has magically made them appear interesting. Joseph Daruvala Ejnelind
Climate change during 2018 Climate change has been a highly discussed problem this last decade. Most people acknowledge human involvement, but some evidently don’t. Regardless if you do acknowledge it or not; the planets average temperature is increasing. Directly or indirectly, it will affect everyone. What does this have to do with the year 2018? There hasn’t been a particular spike in the temperature 2018, but there has been realizations and warnings. The UN and other scientists and researchers frequently came out with warnings about how critical the situation is. On December 12th, 2015, almost every country sent a representative to an urgent meeting in Paris, where they agreed on goals to reach surrounding climate change. This agreement is well known as the Paris agreement. During that meeting, they agreed to keep the temperature below an average increase of 2 degrees in Celsius. During the end of 2018 UN said that it’s not working. UN’s environment program reported that the emissions gap is bigger than last year and that we have to triple our efforts or ”face catastrophic climate change”. The effects of climate change have been especially noticeable 2018. In Sweden, the summer of 2018 was the hottest summer ever recorded in some places. In Stockholm; the recordings started 1765, but most places started recording around the 19th century. But regardless of when the recordings started; it was the hottest summer known in many places in Sweden as well as Europe. The heat led to Sweden’s worst draught between May and July also since roughly the middle of the 19th century, when most recordings began. The draught had many bad consequences. The consequence that has gained the most attention are the wildfires spread all over the country. Sweden is not well forearmed in case of wildfires as the weather usually isn’t as dry as it was. Therefore, Sweden had to be supported with help from other European countries, so, Italy sent planes and Poland sent fire engines and that received a lot of attention on social media. On top of this, the world’s most powerful man; Donald Trump, said during late 2018 that he doesn’t believe in man-made climate change, just as the subject had received a lot more worrying attention. This has been very controversial, but people has not been very surprised. He has not been showing a lot of interest in the topic, which is alarming since USA is the second biggest carbon dioxide producer in the world after China.
The rainforest in Brazil, Amazon, is considered a vital organ of Earth. Over 20 percent of the world’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon Rainforest and it is home for 10 million plants, animals and insects. In order to avoid increasing global warming, the forest needs to be protected, as the deforestation continues. But the plan to decrease the deforestation didn’t seem to sustainable after the 7th October in 2018. That date was the Brazilian presidential election, on which Jair Bolsonaro got elected. He certainly doesn’t put the protection of the rainforest very high on his priority list. The health of the rainforest is not important in his political plans. Jair Bolsonaro said that he has no plans to furthermore extend the protected areas of the Amazon Rainforest. Even though all the tragedies; from the example about Sweden, we can see that these shared climate change problems may create bonds between people and the countries. It can create relationships of trust between different countries. When a country needs help, other countries and organizations may be there to help them, due to a history of relationships and help. And of course, good relationships prevent conflicts and war. But climate change would create conflicts as well as relations. Certain resources may become rare. Due to, for example flooding and drought there will be a big wave of immigration. Which will also create conflicts. I wrote that there are good consequences about climate change; creating bonds. But you have to remember that it will create conflicts too. Just as anything, problems create bonds as well as conflicts. Joar Nilsson

The year was all about politics, climatchange and Avicii’s death. What came after ‘#metoo’ more or less. If one would to break politics down into what it actually is, extremely simply it would most likely be described as choosing the leader of our democracy to distribute the county’s resources. And today we all know that by resources we refer to money, this because in today’s society most things can be bought. A few years ago Sweden’s financial minister Magdalena Andersson described the Swedish economy with the words ‘empty barns’. This meant that the nations’ financial status was worse than the inhabtitants would have thought. Closing up to 2018, election year. The very same minister described the nation’s economy as thriving, this to make the country believe that during the period of time her party was in charge they made the economy in Sweden go from horrible to great. Only days after the election the yearly rapport was released, many experts within economy state that the government held it back until after the election, even refer to this as corruption. This because the rapport contained the correct numbers regarding our BNP per capita for example. This revealed that Sweden had sunken from 23rd place in Europe which already is bad to 28th place, which is the place furthest down at the list. This while the financial minister had been telling the country that the economy was and is flourishing which caused for confusion. But what does it actually mean, that the Sweden had the lowest BNP per capita in EU? A number which also is historically low. BNP per capita measures the concluded financial activity during one year. So when the number for a countries BNP per capita is high the nation have had an economic growth during the previous year. The number is also the sum of the national investments, consumption and earnings from export. When the number is low on the other hand, shows that the country is ineffective because this is split and divided onto every single individual. This means that obviously has some individuals a lot more earnings than others which could be compared to a group project in school where there’s always someone doing most of the work and some who does nothing. So at this moment this means that we do not have as much financial growth, but why is this such a problem? Sweden has for some time been in a very high business cycle where the interest has been lower than ever in history. This has been causing people to take large loans for buying houses they can’t afford if the interest were to rise which is going to occur at some point because this will not work in the long run. The cause for these low interests is partly that they have not made a full recovery from the crash back in 2008, Another cause for this is the neutral interest in the world has been sinking the last decades, this interest do neither stimulate nor decrease the economic sitiation.

Elon Musk 2018 Elon Musk is a famous and very rich engineer from South Africa, he is known by most people as the CEO of both the car manufacturer Tesla and a space company called SpaceX. Elon has been very controversial in the year of 2018, he showed us plenty of times both how rich and how technologically evolved his companies are.
SpaceX launched a lot of rockets in 2018 but some launches were significantly more impressive than others. One of his launches that got a lot of attention from media was when he launched a brandnew Tesla Roadster into space with one of his SpaceX Rockets. The company “Teslaâ€? lost a lot of money in the year of 2017, as much as 600 million USD in just the month of September alone. Even though the company lost insane amounts of money due to production failures it didn´t stop him from showing off his fortune by sending a car out in space on a test flight, not just any car either, a new tesla roadster will cost you between 200.000 to 250.000 USD. Another SpaceX related event that got a lot of attention was the launch rockets of the Falcon 9 model spaceship, when their purpose of launching the main spacecraft into space they separately departed from the spacecraft and started falling towards the ground. As they got closer to the ground they started to gain control over the speed and the positioning of their body by using thrusters. When the rocket got really close to the ground you could see the rocket using its thrusters to land slowly and safely on a marked position on the ground. The fact that the launch rockets landed safely and controlled back on earth is cool but what gained the landing a lot of attention was by landing on their individual marked spot synchronized at the same moment.
Elon musk is the founder of yet another company, The Boring Company, it´s a daughter company to SpaceX. “The Boring Company” focuses mainly on transportation and how to fix the problem of traffic and congestion by traveling in 3D they say that transportation would be much more efficient. By 3D traveling they mean that we should dig layers of tunnels on top of each other to make us travel underground instead, if we need more room we need only to dig deeper according to The Boring Company.
Although The Boring Company focuses on ways of transportation Elon decided to release a “toy” for people with a lot of money to spend. He made a flamethrower and released it out of nowhere without warning, this flamethrower got really popular on social media and is frequently used by the comedian and vlogger David Dobrik. Technically it is not a flamethrower and therefore Elon Musk can sell it legally, Musk said in an interview that “it´s basically just a roofing torch” and that´s the reason why they can sell it legally. However it does not come with a propane tank (which is used as fuel) when ordered online because that would not be legal, but they ship the box with enough cash inside for you to buy a tank. In conclusion Elon Musk certainly have done a lot of interesting things in the year of 2018 and if he keeps working as he does currently we can only guess what will happen next year. Maybe he will keep launching items into space, like spacecrafts, supplies and maybe even an entire space station. His cars can already drive themselves and are highly technologically advanced, perhaps Musk will continue to develop even better cars that can do even more tasks by themselves. One thing that we can say for sure is that Elon Musk will continue to use his intelligence and ambitions to push the technology forward. Written by Erik Lundberg
Emmet Till
Emmett was described by his family as a smart, mischievous and fun-loving boy from Chicago. His mother said that nothing fazed him as a child. He had ease with most things put in front of him, excelling in science and maths even though he was brought up in the suppression of the white man during the segregated society in the nineteen forties and fifties, the time of cotton picking, afro-American suppression, and racism. Around 1955 when Emmett was fourteen years old, his grandfather came into town from Money, Mississipi for a funeral. Emmett's cousin was allowed to visit Money whit his grandfather and of course, Emmett found out and he wanted to go as well and there were some questions about him going but finally, they let him come as well. Before an Afro-American went to the south they usually got prepped so they knew what it was like and what to do or not so that they would be aware of what could happen but Emmett's cousin states that he didn't know if Emmett was told or not. When they arrived it was around cotton harvest season and Emmett and the other younger afro-American children present in the same area weren't old enough to be out picking, so they mostly played around in the fields. One day after they had finished picking cotton in the fields and had their supper, Emmett and his two cousins chose to head into Money and go to the local country store. They arivved into Money and stated to make it twoards the store. Emmett's cousin went in first and he doesn't remember what he bought, just that he spent some money and then Emmett walked in the store, so his cousin left due to the store only allowing certain amounts of colored people inside at the same time and when his cousin left he sent in their other cousin so that Emmett
wouldn't say anything out of line, his cousins states that before he went into the store he has no clue what Emmett might have said, when they then exited the store, Emmett's cousis states that whilst they were in the store together Emmett didn't have any conversation with Mrs, Bryant but as she exited the store, walking towards her car Emmett whistled at her. He didn't think much of it first until he saw the reactions of the people around him who were terrified which made him scared as well. His cousin then grabbed Emmett and threw him into the car, getting out of dodge real fast. They were speeding down the gravel road but they weren't moving fast enough, as the car behind them was gaining on them, so they picked up some speed and stopped by the side of the road, Then they ran into the cotton fields, the other car then speed by theirs rushing down the gravel road so they just assumed that they were out of trouble and Emmett begged his cousins not to tell their grandfather and they didn't. Then later their neighbor mms Crawford told them that they would hear some more about that, but the boys didn't think anything of that. People started talking about this event at the country store in the town and they were saying that they were going to get it, get punished for harassing a white woman in such ways, so the friends of their grandfather told him to take the boys to the train station right away, but he didn't do it. Days pass by and their grandfather chose to bring the family into town for a social gathering, give them a little wine, have some fun etc. then about twothirty in the morning some people were talking outside about some boy from Chicago and they then knocked on the door and said that they wanted to speak whit, Emmett. The man presented himself as Mr. Bryant. When his uncle then opened the door Mr. Bryant had a revolver in one hand and a flashlight in the other, then he asked for the boys from Chicago, and his uncle said that they were there. So Mr. Bryant started walking through the house going door by door looking for Emmett and first they got to his cousin and recognized that he wasn't the one they were looking for, so they passed on the house to the third room they
found Emmett, they then started to ask him questions and he was answering yes sir and no sir which was illegal in Mississippi, a black person was not allowed by law to address a white man or woman directly which more than probably agitated the men, so they took Emmett whit them and told him that they'd be asking him some more questions, they then marched through the house out into the car that then drove away, His family states that they were hoping that they would only torture the boy and return him to his grandfather.
Five days later they had found a body in a ditch, severely bruised and beaten, sexual organs had been cut off, the tongue had been cut and pushed down his throat, teeth been knocked out, ears cut off, shot through the head, nose bridge broken, head had been chopped by an ax so that the head and face were separated. His body was so extremely mutilated so that they couldn't identify him by anything except that on the ring he wore had his dad's initials carved in it.
his family described the feeling as if the world was falling apart going between sadness and disbelief, Emmett's mother was called and she couldn't believe it either, a burial was arranged by some locals so that they could put the boy to rest as well as the story behind it, so that they would get away with it. his mother came down for the funeral and she said that the worst part wasn't even the size of the coffin but the fact that it had been nailed shut, and after they'd shown her the body and she'd seen what they'd done to her boy she got absolutely heartbroken. the funeral director then asked if she still wanted an open casket funeral and she said yes, yes I do. Then he asked if she wanted him to fix the face so that it wouldn't look as bad, but Emmett's mother felt that everyone needed to see what they had done to her boy.
The picture of Emmett's mutilated body went on almost every newspaper front page across America and led the civil rights movements through all of America leading to people like Martin Luther King having the courage to do what they had to because the way black people had been treated could not go back to how they'd been referring to events that happened just like they did to Emmett Till.
The trail on Emmett till proved Mr. Bryant and all the other men that were accused in the kidnapping, torture and murder of Emmett Till were proven unguilty on all accusations because of the jury mostly being filled with white people, On the witness stand Mrs.Bryant is to have said that Emmett Till had spoken directly to her and said sexually advancive things as well as had grabbed her by her hips before she'd gotten out of the store where he later whistled at her. During two thousand and seventeen Mrs. Bryant on her deathbed admitted to having lied in her court testimony and confessing to the murder of Emmett Till committed by her husband and his accomplice in 1955, which is to this day still being written about, brought up in political debates and still has a large piece in the civil rights movements for Afro-American history. Qualis Rex, Talis Grex When crisis came to England There still ruled a queen All who loved their nation Were her very keen Upon a gilded throne she sat And ruled in all the land She spoke to the government But gave naught from her hand Upon a day the minister strode The primest of them all And she said unto the queen “For isolation, people call!” And queen replied, “What sayest thou?” – “England and the vassal princedom Have voted that we isolate ourselves To them we surely must bow”
– “Troubling that; but why against us? Art thou not supposed to take the blame?” – “Yes, but of course; but this they lack: To Your Majesty’s riches they lay claim To appease them with Brexit shall not work Here they are coming with the guillotine Now no deception can stop them From chopping our heads off clean!”

The queen: “Wonderful news! May we now become free From foreign little pests Absolute our might shall be When democracy isn’t imposed” – “Yes, surely Ma’am will do so And the government will serve her To all the peoples’ woe!” – “Oh, thou mustn’t worry That we’d doubt thy loyalty ‘spite austerity and homelessness Left are the riches of the royalty” The minister: “Oh, what relief! We’d feared the contempt arisen Would displease Your Majesty” – “What contempt? I listen” – “Has Ma’am not seen the riots The strikes, threats or protests? To preserve Your Majesty’s might We’ve starved the poor pests We’ve run over the Irish and Scots Dismantled the NHS, stolen rights Now Robespierre leads the opposition And that’s why they’re picking fights”

Famous Female Deaths
Rest in peace, Queen Of Soul<<3
Aretha Franklin (1942-2018) Aretha Franklin was an american singer, songwriter and pianist who was active in the genres soul, jazz, blues and R&B and passed away the 16th of August this year. Aretha was born the 25th of March 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee where she started singing gospel in church. Later, she started singing soul and her career took off. Her most successful songs were I Say a Little Prayer, Son of a Preacher Man and Respect. Aretha was a highly rated creator and singer in soul during half a century and sang in front of Barack Obama on his inauguration ceremony. Unfortunately, smoking and alcohol became her addiction and after many years as a chain smoker, she eventually quit since the smoke was too bad for her singing voice. At the same time, her weight increased significantly and she had a malignant tumor that got cured when she had a surgery. She took a pause from performing and once she did a comeback, she begged the audience to have her in their prayers. Aretha Franklin’s official appearance at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation gala in 2017 came to be her last. Reports said that her health condition deteroriated rapidly and she passed away at a hospital in Detroit where she was surrounded by her dearest. The cause of death was cancer in the pancreas.
Kate Spade (1962-2018) Kate Spade was an american fashion designer and entrepreneur who built a fashion empire with her husband. She was born the 24th of December, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri. Handbags and purses with her name on is an essential accessory in every affluent and fashionable woman’s closet. Clothing, jeweleries, porcelain, interior products, linens as well as the bags of her brand are classic if you want to pay a few thousand crowns extra. Around 25 years ago, she started a fashion/design company together with her husband Andy Spade which was named ”Kate Spade handbags” and grew into a huge empire with 175 stores around the world and resellers online. Kate did sell all her shares in her company to Coach for an affair worth 21 billion crowns and the
reason behind that was to focus more on her family. Last year, she started a new company named after her daughter Frances Beatrix that just like her first company made high-end fashion. On Tuesday the 5th of June, Kate was found dead in her Manhattan residence. Her house keeper encountered the dead body in the flat located in central New York. A scarf was tied around her neck and attached to a door knob so the cause of death was certainly suicide that afterwards can be said was a consequence of her struggle with mental illness. A suicide note was found at the scene where Kate turned to her husband and 13-year old daughter.

Fortnite, the game that took the world by storm! Fortnite is the biggest game of 2018, it’s made by the company Epic Games. When playing Fortnite you choose between two game modes, Save The World and Battle Royale. Last fall Battle Royale was released, and it got extremely popular very fast. It would become the most popular game and genre of 2018. What many people don’t know is that Fortnite got announced way back in 2011. Before Battle Royale got released the game was barely known by the gaming community. Fortnite Save The World is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC while Battle Royale is also available on Nintendo Switch, Android and IOS. Fotnite Save The World: Save the world is the least popular game mode for Fortnite. When buying it you can choose from the Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition. The price of the Standard edition is €39.99, but it’s often up to 50 % cheaper on sale. The Deluxe edition can be bought for €59.99 and comes with a lot of extra items that can give you an upper hand in the beginning. It includes weapons/traps, loot packs, heroes, weapon slots, XP boosts and banner icons. The purpose of the game is to survive by building defensive forts and fight monsters with other players. According to the story a storm came, bringing monsters who took everything, including towns and people’s families. Now the survivors need a leader to help them fight back. When playing you collect weapons, heroes, loot packs and so on by completing missions and levelling up. New items and cosmetics is added to the game regularly for the players to enjoy.
Fortnite Battle Royale: Now on to the biggest and most popular part of the game, Battle Royale. This game is free, everyone can play it if they have the right platform. If you’ve ever heard of the Hunger Games movies, you’ll instantly understand the principle of the game. When playing you decide if you want to play Solo, Duos or Squads, depending on how many you and/or friends are. In the beginning of the game you and 99 other players drop from a flying bus called the “battle bus” with nothing but a harvesting tool. As you come closer to the ground a glider activates to help you reach your destination. As you have nothing on you, your first mission is to find guns and shields to defend yourself against other players who is trying to kill you. Loot is found all over the map, mostly in buildings and houses. As the game continues you gather materials to use for building forts and fighting other players. The game lets you build almost anything you want as long as you have materials and imagination. A good player will use their building-skills in battles to increase their chance of getting the kill. Having the higher ground in a fight is very important in the game as it’s easier to hit headshots which deals more damage. This is the reason behind the so called “building fights”, two or more players is trying to kill each other while trying to reach and keeping the high-ground. This is very interesting and enjoyable, the more you practise building, the faster and better you become. Minutes into the game a ticking timer and a big circle appears on the map, covering about 60 % of the total area. When the time reaches zero a storm starts to make its way to surround the area outside the circle. All the players have to move fast and enter the so called safe zone before they lose too much health by the dangerous storm. Whenever the storm reaches the circle, a new and smaller one appears. This goes on until there’s only one team left or when the storm eventually covers the whole map. To win the game you must be the last one standing.
The success of the game: The harvesting tool is used to gather materials as you can build walls, floors, ramps and pyramids. This is what’s special about Fortnite and probably the reason behind its success. No other third person shooter-game has ever had this function in battle royale before. Another reason behind fortnites success is the games availability. As mentioned before the game is free so anyone with a console, PC, phone etc can play the game. This is a very important factor behind the game as it’s so easy to get your hands on. Epic games reached out to tons of player through social media. They can also thank all the big streamers and entertainers for all the free commercial they’ve gotten through their channels on youtube, twitch, twitter and so on. Epic games have earned millions of dollars through Fortnite Battle royale, even though its free. This is because of all the items you can buy in the game. All the items are cosmetic and won’t give the purchaser any advantages. You can buy skins, glider, emotes and harvesting tools in the shop which updates daily. A battle pass Is also available every new season and offers the buyer special items. In the end of 2018, fortnite isn’t as popular as it used to be. Although, the game still has millions of people playing it daily.

Internet Trends of 2018 This year is finally coming to an end and it has been filled with weird Internet trends. We have been sharing everything from stories of sexual assault under the hashtag #MeToo to clips of people consuming laundry detergent capsules in social media. It is now time for me to give you a little recap of the best and the worst Internet trends of 2018.
Tide PODS Tide PODS are small laundry detergent capsules that look appetizing because of the pretty colors, but if you have some common sense you might understand that they are poisonous and that consuming them is a very bad idea. Joking about eating Tide Pods was one of the first memes of 2018. Although it was a joke and eating Tide PODS is extremely dangerous, some people actually did eat them this year, which is slightly concerning, to be honest. It really went so far that both YouTube and Facebook announced that they would have to start removing these videos as they were “intended to encourage dangerous activities that have an inherent risk of physical harm. Despite the fact that many people got poisoned, I think this trend was epic.
ASMR ASMR, short for autonomous sensory meridian response, is an experience characterized by a tingling sensation on the skin. Making videos that make the viewer feel this kind of tingle has become very popular this year, especially on YouTube. What most creators do is that they whisper into a microphone or touch an object so that it makes a soothing sound. Some people find this very relaxing and it can actually help them fall asleep whereas others just get uncomfortable watching it. Either way, I think it is worth checking out if you have not already, who knows, it might be the cure for your sleep troubles.
Mukbangs Mukbang is an online audiovisual broadcast in which a person eats large amounts of foods while interacting with the people watching. It has been popular for a pretty long time in South Korea, but this year the trend spread all over the world. You can now find it on almost every single popular platform online. It has a strong connection to ASMR since mukbangs also can make you feel tingles, but unlike ASMR videos it is not the ultimate purpose of the video. Personally, I think it is kind of disgusting and I do not really understand why anyone would want to listen to someone chew loudly but I guess everyone is different.
Subscribe to Pewdiepie If you hang out on the Internet a lot you have probably heard of Felix Kjellberg, mostly known as Pewdiepie, since he has been the most subscribed to YouTuber for the past five years. At the time of writing he has 76 million subscribers, which corresponds to over 1% of the entire world population. He has not had any competition up until this year when a new channel popped up on YouTube: Tseries. It is an Indian channel that posts Indian series and it has been gaining millions of followers in just a couple of months. The channel almost passed Pewdiepie in November this year and that is when Pewdiepie’s fans decided to do something. They have bought billboard ads, hacked printers and written “subscribe to pewdiepie” all over the place – all in order to keep him in the number- one spot. It worked and Pewdiepie is now over one million subscribers ahead of T-series and has been for a while. If you ask me, I think it he is worth all the subscribers and that the whole Pewdiepie vs T-series thing is really funny.
Fortnite This year the game Fortnite blew up and you can now find it literally everywhere. In case you have been hiding under a rock lately and have no idea what I am talking about, do not worry, I am going to explain it to you. Fortnite is a videogame available on Xbox, PS4, PC or even your phone. In the game’s solo mode 100 players play against each other and the point is to be the last one standing. The players air-drop out of a moving plane (or “battle bus”, in this case), then fight to survive as the play space slowly shrinks to force people into combat. You need to find all your weapons and equipment on the map by yourself since you do not land with anything other than a pickaxe. The pickaxe is used to harvest building materials from trees, cars and other objects so you can make your own walls, ramps and platforms to protect yourself. In the game the players can also dance, and these dances have become extremely popular. You have probably seen people doing them, either online or in real life. The game itself is alright, but the dances are just too overused at this point and I hope that they will stay in 2018 forever.

Big failure for Sweden in their asylum process! 2018 was the year the people of Sweden realized that Sweden has failed big time in their asylum process, it has spread across social media and been in several newspapers. I have been told many dreadful stories from people who fled from their home countries, risking their lives and leaving everything behind. Now, when they have lived in Sweden for around 3 years the majority of them (mostly people from Afghanistan) are being denied asylum from the Migration Office, even though they can’t go back for various reasons. How do we think when we are sending people back after they have given up everything, to start over and create a new future? Is it reasonable to have a processing time for 3 years and then get denied staying in Sweden? We have had the longest processing time ever in Swedish history. Children who arrived on their own to Sweden when they were 15-16 years old in August to November 2015 still have not received their approval or denial of their asylum application. It has been 3 years, they have gone to school, learnt Swedish and most of them speak fluently. Is it really human to send these kids back to their home country when they see Sweden as their home? Unfortunately, some of them have been upgraded in age from the Migrations Office which means that they can no longer attend Swedish primary school, nor can they stay in homes for youth. They have to move to asylum camps for adults were there happens to be drugs and other psychological problems which is a result of very long waiting time for their claim and people are losing hope. I know a family that has been denied and that Sweden is going to send back to Afghanistan. If they were to be sent to their home country, that they have fled from then I have hard to see a bright future for them. One of the reasons they fled was because the Taliban’s took their son and then threatened with a gun in their hands that next time they come their oldest daughter of eighteen would come with them to marry a Taliban. How can we send home that family? The Taliban’s have spies, eyes and ears everywhere, how long would it take to find them? The youngest girl will she have an opportunity to school, apparently not. Many people are protesting to send young people back to Afghanistan. Some young men have never lived in Afghanistan, they were born in Iran of Afghan parents and have been raised there too. But they have not been legalised citizen of the country. Because of no passport, they have no rights in Iran and they can’t go to school. The situation in Afghanistan is worse than ever.
They can’t go back so they look for a new life in Europe. They come with empty pockets and we are now sending them back to nothing and no one. We are deporting men, women, young people and children. There has never been so much debate in newspapers and social media about Sweden and other European countries concerning deportations, despite that these people have very good reasons to stay. In my opinion this is insane. Sweden has failed in dealing with immigration issues and integration. We can defend the lack of process due to an enormous amount of people seeking asylum in the year of 2015. But we must realize that this is a big failure for Sweden. I believe that many decisions the Migrations Office, the community and government have made are barbarous. Let us show humanity, let us make a change and stop these deportations immediately! NBA’s Biggest Happenings and Awards. There has been a lot of big happenings in the NBA during 2018. Perhaps the biggest happening is Lebron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers in his free agency after getting swept in the finals against the Golden State Warriors. Lebron joined the Lakers in a fouryear contract worth $153.3 million and it was no surprise because he carried his former team Cleveland Cavaliers to the finals multiple times, and now in the 2018-19 season the Cavs have so far gone 6-21 in wins and losses. A couple of big trades and free agencies are the Kawhi Leonard for Demar DeRozan trade where the Toronto Raptors unexpectedly traded DeRozan for Leonard. This trade surprised the whole NBA, Vince Carter tweeted this on DeRozan's exit from Toronto: “Wow. That’s it. Simple as that. DeMar has done so many great things there. He deserves to finish his career there, if he wanted, which he did.” Demarcus Cousins were a free agent who signed with the Warriors after they won the finals for just $5.3 million, that might sound as a lot but compared to the $18 million he earned the season before with the New Orleans Pelicans it is not that much. A lot of people say he ruined the NBA because he signed with a super team who now has five all-stars in their line-up just to win a championship ring.
Demarcus Cousins (2017)
Carmelo Anthony (2013)
Another big trade was Carmelo Anthony who was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to Atlanta Hawks during the offseason and later got waived by them and became an unrestricted free agent. He later chose to sign with the Houston Rockets but did not play well and they later went part ways. Anthony was drafted as the third pick in the 2003 NBA draft, the same draft class as Lebron James.

Some good news for us swedes are that Jonas Jerebko, our only Swedish NBA player to ever play is having a terrific season so far. He is playing for the Golden State Warriors and is averaging 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game which is good when you come off the bench. He has also made some clutch goals to win games for example against the Utah Jazz in November, who waived him before he signed with the Golden State Warriors. Another big night for Jerebko is when he scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists off the bench against the league leaders Toronto Raptors but still lost 128-131. Stephen Curry posted on Instagram after Jerebko hit the game winner against his former team Utah Jazz.” They didn’t want ya Jonas!”. As we see the 17-18 season and offseason had a lot of big trades and players switching teams, and I am excited to see the rest of the 18-19 season, the playoffs and how the players develop.

Why 6ix9ine is so popular Daniel Hernandez also known as 6ix9ine has had a very successful year 2018 in terms of music. He has had a lot of songs high up on the charts. All of this in a little bit more than a year. And he is probably going to jail for a long time. Here is why he is so popular. His upbringing made Hernandez 6ix9ine. At 13 years old his father passed away. This had a huge impact on the rapper as he dropped out of school and then started working odd jobs to help his mother. He eventually started to sell drugs. By that time, he started to develop his 6ix9ine persona. He got inspiration from anime, hip hop and metal. That persona was an act, he said, but it put him on a path to hip-hop stardom according to The New York Times. His image is a part why he is where he is now. 6ix9ine got rainbow hair, rainbow teeth and the number 69 tattooed on him over 200 times according to The Times. Him looking insane makes people more interested. The rappers career started with him being a joke on the internet. People on social media like to post pictures of him and make fun of him and that is good for his popularity. He also posts videos on his social medias which a lot of people think is funny. A consequence of that is that people makes so called memes of those videos which gets spread around and because of that 6ix9ine gets more popularity. 6ix9ines music is also unique from what you typically hear. His sound is very aggressive, and he also got a certain type of energy to his songs that is fun to listen to. He also has his gangster image that also boosts his fame. He mentions it or reference gang affiliated stuff in almost every song and that is what a lot of people like to listen to. His music videos also carry a certain type of energy. One of his music videos got 200 million views in just a month for example. So what´s so special about his music videos? There is usually a lot of people in his videos dancing and having fun. There is also a lot of gang signs and guns in a lot of his videos. In late 2017 Hernandez released his debut single “GUMMO” which got platinum. After this successful single he has gotten a bunch of other songs which has gone platinum. He got features on his tracks such as Kanye west, Nicki Minaj, Bobby Shmurda and more. He starts fights on the internet with other artists with purpose. This gets a lot of people to talk about him on the internet. He gets the people that don´t know who he is to wonder who this crazy looking person, so therefore he gets more views on his videos and 6ix9ine gets more exposure. The latest album “DUMMY BOY” by the artist was released whilst he was in jail. It has gotten a lot of attention because of he is in jail and therefore gotten a lot of attention on the internet. He was recently arrested on charges of racketeering and illegal firearms possession as part of a violent crime ring and could go to prison for life, according to charges filed in November 2018. The November charges could be the end of his career.

BTS; the boy group of 2018
Kim Taehyung, Min Yoongi, Kim Seokjin, Jeon Jungkook, Kim Namjoon, Park Jimin, Jung Hoseok
As the currently biggest boy group in the music industry, BTS, the Korean boy group is taking the world with storm. Being the first K-pop group to receive this level of recognition in the west (although secondly after PSY´s Gangnam Style) and being from a prominently smaller entertainment company they have continuously grown against everyone’s expectations. The group consist of the seven members going by their stage names: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook. They debuted from the company BigHit lead by Bang Si- Hyuk, June 13, 2013 and have since then released a total of 16 albums (several of them Japanese) and sold up to 10 million albums. Their name, “Bangtan Boys” in Korean which translates to “Bulletproof boy scouts” has also become a backronym for both “Beyond the Scene” as well as “Burn the Stage”, their recently released movie about their life as artists. Burn the stage had its premiere on November 15, 2018 and attracted a total of 1.96 million fans worldwide. Thus, becoming the most watched music documentary breaking the previous record set by the western boy group One Direction. It is also estimated that 10.5 percent of the viewers bought new tickets to re-watch the movie and in the US, it ranked in the top 10 at the box office.
BTS are not from one of the more famous entertainment groups in South Korea (SM, YG and JYP which dominate the industry and are referred to as the “Big Three”) and rose from a generally unknown company. This means that they didn’t have the same economic support that many other mainstream groups have. While it is quite common for music producers to write and compose the songs for the respective artists, BTS has played a big role in their own comebacks and many of the songs and choreographies are created by the members. As well as the cooperative albums, RM, Suga and J-Hope have released their own solo projects/mixtapes together with their manager that have all been successful both in Asia and the west. Until now they have collaborated with Steve Aoki, Nicki Minaj, The Chainsmokers plus more and several artists such as Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan, Ansel Elgort among others have expressed interest in future collaborations. In addition to their achievement in music, the boys appeared on the October 2018 issue of the Time Magazine cover with the caption: Next Generation Leaders, as well as previously being ranked as top 25 most influential people on the internet last year. Guinness World Records has also announced that the group has earned a spot in the 2018 edition for having the world’s most twitter engagements for a music group. On September 24th the group attended the UNICEF launch ceremony at the United Nations and the leader RM delivered a 3-minute speech in which he talked about finding his motivation for life and pushing through his hardships and urging people of the younger generation to do the same. They had previously partnered with the organization in their album “Love Yourself”, an anti-violence campaign and around $1.03 million was donated to the cause. Through working with different music genres, themes and incorporating both their own cultural traits as well as others they reach a broad audience and during this last year they’ve succeeded in not only surpassing artists and groups in Korea but the entire world. On the 17th October it was announced that BTS renewed their contract until 2026 with BigHit Entertainment and will continue their journey as K-pop artists for at least 8 more years to come.

The Degeneration of Democracy
Protest against Bolsonaro by Brazilian women in London before his election
In 2018, many national and local elections were held across the world. These were characterized by the collapse of the traditional ruling parties in many countries—which might be a good thing, as many of them have lost their ideological compasses—but also by the rise of farright parties that are openly hostile to the concept of democracy and human rights. The election campaign in Brazil was completely centred around the presidential candidate of the evangelical far-right, Jair Bolsonaro. He had made himself well-known for his vocal attacks on women, LGBTQ people, political
opponents and immigrants. Among other things, he said to the former Human Rights Minister of Brazil that she was “not worth raping” due to being “very ugly”, and that if he had a gay son, he would like him to “die in an accident”. Bolsonaro has fervently celebrated and defended the brutal military junta that ruled Brazil between 1964 and 1985 and the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, claiming that it “should have killed more people”. Ironic, perhaps, as Bolsonaro’s “pro-life” stance should seem incompatible with the Chilean dictatorship’s frequent executions of pregnant women. In October, Bolsonaro was elected president with 55 % of the vote, against
the centre-left candidate Fernando Haddad’s 45 %. Similarly, the neo-fascist party Lega seized power from the previously dominant Democratic Party in Italy, in an alliance with the populist (although “opportunist” would be a more fitting description) Five-Star Movement. The new Italian government is now actively preventing aid from reaching refugee boats in distress in the Mediterranean, rather letting people drown in the sea than giving them aid. The pattern of far-right, racist parties growing can be seen in most countries. According to several opinion polls, the Nazi-apologetic Alternative for Germany has outgrown the Social Democratic Party in support. The Freedom Party of Austria has its roots in the Nazi government during WWII; but it is despite this now part of the national government. What European ultranationalism has led to in the past is apparently not a daunting prospect for many voters. In this situation, it is easy to blame the “stupid voters” and call for increased technocracy, as many self-proclaimed liberal ideologues are now doing; but this is misplacing the blame completely—and intentionally. In reality, no one deserves greater blame for this than the neoliberal establishment. Time and time again, these staunchly reactionary leaders have shown that they are far more comfortable with far-right demagogues than the progressive left. Protecting the economic interest of the bourgeoisie from even the slightest of tax increases has been shown to be a far more important principle than protecting basic human rights for modern liberals. Early in the Brazilian election campaign, ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers’ Party was leading the polls—far ahead of Bolsonaro. A victory
by Lula could not be tolerated by the right-wing government, wherefore an investigation, accusing Lula of corruption during his time as president, was launched on dubious grounds. Lula was excluded from the presidential race when he was sentenced to prison in a clearly politicized trial. In precisely the same way, the previous elected president Dilma Rousseff (also of the Workers’ Party) was ousted from power in 2016 and succeeded with the unelected and highly unpopular Michel Temer of the centre-right Brazilian Democratic Movement. This paved the way for Bolsonaro, who was backed by most of the right against a fractured left. In many countries, the centre-right and far-right have united in their defence of the capitalist society against perceived left-wing threat. Many neoliberals are more than happy to look past Nazi ties and adopt racist policies to claim power, as is now the case in Austria and many other European countries. This legitimizes anti-democratic and racist views and is what allows neo-fascist parties to grow. What we are seeing now is exactly what happened in Germany in the 1930s, when the German right and centre voted in favour of giving Adolf Hitler dictatorial powers in fear of the growing Communist Party. We must realize that today’s neoliberal politicians have no greater interest in protecting our rights than their progenitors had. To counter their enabling of fascism, we must stand up and raise our voices against the right and in defence of our rights, because soon it will be too late to do so.

Thai Cave Rescue - 17 People Saved On June 23rd a junior soccer team from Thailand went to the Tham Luang caves with their coach to perform an initiation ceremony. They left all their belongings outside the caves and went 4 km in to the cave to write their names on the wall before returning. This is when disaster struck, and a flash flood trapped them inside the cave. The team, the Wild Boars, were aged 11-17 and had just ended their practise. The boys liked exploring the caves and had done it before, but on this day, it was pouring outside. The boys had ventured sometimes as far as 8km into the caves before and they loved exploring it together. The team also used the exploring as an initiation
ceremony for new team members. The ceremony had the goal to write the new member’s name on the cave walls. The reason they entered on this day, despite the pouring rain, was because of one of the boy’s 17th birthday. They wanted to celebrate him, in their favourite place. When found on July 2 the boys had been trapped for over a week and many wondered how they managed to survive, not only survive but stay close to healthy. It is said that they had brought snacks into the caves because they were there to celebrate their team mate’s birthday and that, and drinking the water dripping from the cave walls, is what they survived on. The 25-year-old coach had spent several years as a Buddhist monk and most people believe that he is one of the biggest reasons to their survival. He refused to eat the snacks and was therefore the weakest when found. It is also rumoured that he had the boys meditate to avoid stress. The meditation is also a tool to use less air from the cave. The oxygen levels had dropped to 15% since they entered when it was about 21%. Hypothermia was also a worry from outside the cave, but the boys spent their days digging into the cave wall with rocks, creating a tunnel where the cold water did not reach. The rescue team for the huge rescue consisted of Thai navy seals and loads of volunteers. On June 28th international cave divers arrived from for example the UK, Scandinavia but also from many other countries. There was also a team called the Wet Mules from Australia. The experienced help was crucial in the mission because most of the Thai Navy divers had little cave diving knowledge and experience. When the boys had been found the way out was still a difficult dive so the rescue divers had to hold a crash course in diving before actually being able to start the mission to get the boys and their coach out safely. Each boy had to be accompanied by two divers, one in the front and the other behind. The rescue team managed, using pumps, to remove enough water in the cave so they cleared a piece of land in chamber three where they could set up a base for the divers. The last part of the cave, after chamber three the boys were secured and carried in a stretcher. At least five men had to be a part of this section, wading through mud and some sections of chin-high water. The first 4 boys were saved July 8th, the coach was the last to be saved and was freed on July 10th.
Apart from the 12 boys and their football coach there were 4 workers trapped in the cave too. They had been working when the flash flood hit. They got trapped but it had only gone a few days, so they had not yet been reported missing. They were discovered when the divers were exploring the caves during the search of the boys. The rescuers that found them started a spontaneous rescue that also started with a crash course in diving. All four men got out of the caves safely. The rescue was a success because 17 people were saved but unfortunately it was not without casualties; one life was lost. On July 6th the Thai navy Seal diver Saman Kunan suffocated at age 38. He died while trying to fix the problem with decreasing levels of oxygen in the cave. He dove with oxygen tanks and placed them along the cave walls while the rescue team figured out a way to get the team to safety. He ran out of air when returning. After his death Kunan has been honoured as a hero and earned a royal funeral.

Top 5 Netflix picks from 2018 On My Block On My Block is one of the TV series that has taken the world by storm since it aired on March 16th, 2018. Since they have only released one season, there are only 10 chapters available. But do not fear, there is more yet to come! The show won the prize for “Choice Tv Breakout Show” at the Teen Choice Awards in August 2018, as the series has gained a lot of viewers in just a few months. Netflix describes the show as a comedy with a great deal of teen romance and drama, which seems like an accurate description. The show has a rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, so one can draw the conclusion that the show has a great fanbase. In the cast you find Jason Genao as Ruby, Ronnie Hawk as Olivia, Brett Gray as Jamal, Sierra Capri as Monse and Diego Tinoco as Caesar along with a lot of other good actors. The plot is set in a neighborhood in Los Angeles where Ruby, Jamal, Monse and Caesar are facing the difficulty of trying to stay friends while starting High School. In the first of the ten episodes we see Monse returning from camp only to find the other two guys no longer speaking to Caesar. Monse tries to figure out what he has done and learns that he has joined his big brother’s gang and that he has spread a rumor about her. Jamal has another
problem of his own, as his parents live for football while he hates it. He pretends to join the varsity team and finds himself weaving a bigger and bigger net of lies. Ruby also has problems of his own. When his big brother leaves for college, he thinks he will finally get his own room, but alas, he must share it with his grandmother as there is a water leak in her room. When his grandmother finally has moved out, a friend of his parent’s daughter moves in with his family and of course the girl, Olivia gets his room. Although, this time he is easier to convince to give up his room, as he instantly catches feelings for her.
The story goes on with the five of them going to school as well as attempting to solve the problem of getting Caesar out of the gang. The show is filled with humor and romance as well as more serious matters as lost parents, money and murder. The only problem with the show is the age of the characters. While the actors that are playing the five friends are all somewhere between 19 and 22 years old in real life, the characters are supposed to be 14! That is the reason that On My Block will only get 8/10 points.
Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia All who have never watched Trevor Noah clearly have missed out on something. This 34 years old comedygenius is a writer, producer, actor and television host as well as a comedian. Among his other works, he gives voice to Griot in Black Panther, is the host of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah since 2015 and has not only one, but three Stand-up specials on Netflix. Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia is the latest addition to those Stand-up specials and was added to Netflix in 2018. In one hour and three minutes he has time to touch every subject between tacos and snakes. In sassy comments and through enhancing storytelling he talks about how his mother Patricia taught him how to tackle racism, about the first time he ate tacos and what his thoughts on camping are. Trevor Noah also manages to squeeze in time to criticize Donald Trump. If you like to laugh and dislike the racist president of the United States, this stand-up special might be something for you. Noah’s witty jokes will make you smile while the seriousness behind them will make you think. A clear 9/10.
First Match This American drama film was released in March 2018 and is one hour and 42 minutes long. First Match has a rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and the writer and director, Olivia Newman, won a SXSW Gamechanger Award for this incredible movie. The main character Monique, played by Elvire Emanuelle, is a teenage girl
Trevor Noah, the comedian himself.
hardened by her years in foster care. She has made some careless choices in her life and is driven by a lot of anger. One day she meets her father, Darrel, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who got out of prison but has not been trying to find her. Mo (Monique) only has one friend, Omari, played by Jaharrel Jerome, and even though they often are hard on each other and fight a lot, everybody can see that she loves her friend. Even though Mo is tough from the inside and out, the audience can see how badly she is hurt by the fact that her own father does not want to be a part of her life. As a desperate attempt to get her father’s attention, she decides to join her school’s boy’s wrestling team since her dad was a great wrestler back in the day. This action is positive at first as it renews their relationship and it gives them something to connect over. But unfortunately, it has some bad consequences as well; Darrel is so obsessed with fixing his own life that he puts Mo’s wellbeing and feelings second to his own.
The plot is well-written and the acting is even better. The actors portray the characters with outmost exactness and this is probably the least predictable story out of all these movies and series. But the plot is rather dark at times; Monique pushes away everybody that means anything to her and the movie contains violence as well as a lot of anger. Considering everything, it is a great movie and therefore receives a score of 8/10.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before This one hour and 39 minutes long movie is both amusing and romantic. The film has received a tremendous amount of love. Rotten Tomatoes has even given this rom-com a rating of 96%. It seems like everybody loves this movie, as well as the now-famous actors Noah Centineo and Lana Condor, but the question is: is it as fantastic as everybody describes it?
Lana Condor and Noah Centineo
Lara Jean, the story’s main character lives a normal-enough teenage life. She goes to school and spends time with her family in the evenings. Lara Jean keeps five love letters in her room, each addressed to a different boy she has had a crush on at some point in her life. The letters are hidden in a box given to her by her late mother, which she keeps in her closet. Everything is as it has always been, until Lara Jean’s little sister decides to mail the old love letters to the boys they are addressed to. Lara Jean finds out, to her horrification that Peter Kavinsky, her seventh-grade crush has received one, as well as her big sister Margo’s exboyfriend, Josh, and the other guys she once was in love with. To avoid hurting her sister’s feelings she kisses Peter to make it clear to Josh that she’s not interested in him. One thing leads to another and Peter and Lara Jean get into a relationship, although it is fake. Peter wants to make his ex jealous and Lara Jean tries to make Josh stop liking her. The fake relationship works out in the beginning, but the question is: how long will it last and who will end up getting hurt?
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is easy to watch and makes you smile as well as feel for the characters. The main characters are relatable and even though they have their flaws, they are sweet at heart. The “shy-girl and jock” relationship may seem cliché at first, but with all the new twists of that old storyline, such as the fake relationship, it is still exciting and leaves you wanting more, so it will receive a rate of 10/10.
Elite Another amazingly captivating new show that has been added to Netflix in 2018 is Elite. It is a Spanish series that takes place in Barcelona, but of course there is English subtitles if you’re not fluent in the Spanish language. This show contains a clever mix between teen drama, romance and crime. There is now only one season on Netflix since it came out on October 5th, 2018, but all eight episodes are between 45 and 55 minutes long. It was renewed for a second season only days after the release of the first, so hopefully we soon find out the answers to all the questions that the cliffhanger left us with. The series begins with Samuel (Itzan Escamilla) being questioned by a police officer about the murder that has taken place at his school. Throughout the whole season, perspectives shift from the police questioning the students, to going back in time to when Samuel, Nadia (Mina El Hammani) and Christian (Miguel Herrán) appear at their new school, Las Encinas. Las Encinas is the most exclusive school in Spain, and the three students have been given scholarships to attend this new school since their old one collapsed. At Las Encinas they meet new friends, as well as enemies. Samuel falls in love with Marina (María Pedraza), another student at the school whom is sister to Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) who also attends the school, but who isn’t nearly as nice as her sister. They also interact with the other upper-class students, such as Polo (Álvaro Rico), Carla (Ester Expósito), Lu (Danna Paola), and Ander (Arón Piper). We get to meet Omar (Omar Ayuso) as well, Nadia’s brother who ends up falling in love
with a guy, which he can’t tell his parents. We are also introduced to Samuel’s brother Nano (Jaime Lorente) who just got out of prison. In the last episode we find out who the murderer is, and after watching the other nine episodes trying to understand who it could possibly be, one is excited to finally have the answer. The show has been rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is understandable because of the intriguing plot and the interesting characters. According to Netflix, the show is okay for everybody over 13 years to watch, but due to scenes of the murder etc. one could ask if 15 wouldn’t have been better as an age limit. Overall, this show gets 10/10 points.

Stephen Hillenburg The beloved creator of the popular Nickelodeon animated series Spongebob Squarepants (1999-) passed away 26th of November 2018 at the age of 57. With this article we would like to go back in time and see his growth and how the creation of one of the most iconic tv-series in history came to be. Born in Oklahoma and raised in California, young Stephen became fascinated with the ocean and later an interest in art. At the year of 1984, he started his professional career of teaching marine biology at the Orange County Marine Institute. At the OCMT he wrote an informative comic book about tide-pool animals called The Intertidal Zone that was used to educate his students. He started his animation career by attending California Institute of the Arts where he made two animated shorts, The Green Beret and Wormholes, and later was offered a job at Nickelodeon to work on an animated show called Rocko’s Morden Life (1993-1996). The year is 1994 and Stephen looks back at his old project The Intertidal Zone and begins to create concepts and develop his characters into the ones we have today, Spongebob Squarepants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles with many more. The show premiered 1999 and has been aired ever since, with no sign of cancellation. The show was however supposed to end with The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (2004) but the Nickelodeon insisted on making more episodes and keep the show going. This ended with Hillenburg parting from the network and resigned from being the showrunner.
In 2013, he returned to creating animated shorts together with Hollywood Blvd (USA). However, he would later return to Nickelodeon and work on the next Spongebob Squarepants movie, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge out of water (2015). Stephen was the co-writer behind the story and also acted as an executive producer on the project. Hillenburg had won two Emmy Awards and six Annie Awards for Spongebob Squarepants, but he had also won an accolade from Heal The Bay for his efforts on elevating marine life awareness. He won as well the Television Animation Award from the National Cartoonists Soceity. Sadly in 2017, Stephen was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a specific disease that kills neurons controlling voluntary muscles. He stated however that he would continue working on the show as long as possible. He managed to work for about a year until he sadly passed away.
