My name is Ann (Annie) Thornton and I am a Junior at Georgia State Univeristy pursuing a bachelor in Fine Arts: Interior Design. My objective with each space I design is for it’s purpose to be solely centered around the occupants and their specific needs. I am dedicated to creating interiors people feel comfortable and vibrant in. I meticulously think through every detail in the design process to craft unique spaces. I understand Interior Designers have the capability to impact lives by creating designs that provoke inspiration and increase quality of life.

Commerical Design Fall 2017
Design concept The design concept was to create an office space centered around Kimberly- Clark’s employees well-being by incorporating different types of work environments to suit to each individuals work ethic. This includes relaxed lounge areas, individual sit/stand workstations, and plenty of group collab and unnasigned seating areas. I chose to incorporate Linear elements throughout the design to define each room. These linear aspects are shown through the wood beams, acoustical features, as well as shadows. Light penetrates from one end to the other in as many places to promote natural light. To help towards Kimberly Clark’s sustainability goals I used concrete flooring, environmentally preferred materials, LED lights, and paint with no VOCs.

05 These rooms are desinged as a community space that also incorporates various work styles. There is a main seating area for social and group activites in the center of the breakroom adjacent to the individual booth seating and cafe/bar style seating. There are 4 enclosed huddle rooms for greater privacy and 2 open huddle rooms to serve as a more casual meeting space.

This area combines rearrangeable steps by Knoll for seating and movable walls both from Knoll Rockwell Unscripted collection to create a customizable space. The linear pendant light also serves as an acoustical feature for noise reduction. The assigned workstations surround the center gathering space and feature sit/stand work desks. Adjacent to the assigned workstations are a projected amount of unnasigned work areas. Two semi enclosed rooms located next to the central meeting/gathering area so the indiviudal can break off into a smaller group or work individually.

50 Hurt Plaza SE
residential Design spring 2019
PROJECT STATEMENT Group project involving the renovation of the 2 top level floors inside of the Hurt Building. Conceptually, the idea was to create a space in the heart of downtown Atlanta that would be Well Certified. The apartment building will have multiple floorplan options. To promote a healthier lifestyle for the residents, the building will include a bike repair shop, rooftop garden, and a seating area in an ornamental staircase. Inlcuded is my contribution which includes two computer renderings of the studio unit and the aligning research.
15 • paint with no VOCs for air qaulity • light reflectance through materials such as stainless steel appliances and high gloss cabinets • heated floors which produce heat and save energy
• Blackout shades, nightlights, electronics with the option to produce no ligtht, illuminated toe kicks, and lights with adjustable timed “bed-tiime” and “wake- time” features as to not disrupt our natural circadian rythm. • impact reducing cork flooring which reduces the negative impact on acoustics

Light and Shadow

Fall 2017
PROJECT STATEMENT Create a series of drawings with ink, inspired by Styrofoam theory project, to explore light and shadow - the fundamental components of interiors of architecture.

Tectonics and Scale
theory
Fall 2017
PROJECT statement Exploring solid/ void relationships through a 3D object using Styrofoam. The goal is to create an occupied surface that is formed from systematic geometrical manipulation.
PROCESS I wanted to create shadow through rearranging pieces of foam cut in different shapes and sizes. It helped me learn the importance of where you place objects and how it affects light penetration.
