Operation Saturation has begun-at least by these designers! Bright colors hit the runway in full force providing excitement on the runway. Several collections popped with bright reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, and greens. It seems as if these designers have stepped away from black and are trying to provide an optimistic outlook despite today’s volatile political and global climate. For maximum impact, designers such as Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham chose a head-to-toe monochromatic look in a single bright hue. This option is a bold, confident, but sleek look. It’s sure to turn heads! However, Ford also shows that for those who don’t normally wear color, the use of incorporating bright outerwear pieces with neutrals is another equally as chic and on trend way to go. It’s a nice switch up since most outerwear pieces are found in neutral tones versus a daring color ,such as orange. WGSN

Public School chooses a similar route as Victoria Beckham, with the monochromatic look. However, they layer a more brightly saturated

piece over a top in the same hue just not as bright and that contains a print. This slight variation in color sticks to the cohesive nature of the hue while adding interest and introducing another color as well. In this case, the black in the tye-dye print of the shirt complements the shoes bringing every element together.

The streets are brightening up with pops of color as well. The trend is catching on by fashionistas mainly in the form of monochromatic bright hues. The orange ensemble has a more casual flare to the trend with the pairing of sneakers, but the style star even goes as far as to match her glasses with the orange monochramatic set. The red ensemble is still on the casual side, while the boot choice adds contrast but at the same time keeps it in the red color family. The third look provides an alternative option for the trend, mixing two different bright colors. This keeps with the color trend while using color blocking to do so.

It seems that celebrities have taken the monochromatic approach for this trend for the absolute knockout look. Gigi Hadid, uses the trend in a sporty casual look, while Margot Robbie applies this trend to liven up a stiff suit set. Camila Cabello looks red hot, even using her boots to complete the monochromatic effect, while Blake Lively does the color yellow like no one else could. Her bright look is my favorite of them all and actually tempts me to wear yellow, which is my least favorite color! This color choice for the trend is also on trend in another way since yellow was also used alot during fashion week. Nevertheless, these stars make the trend look sleek and prove that you won’t look like a walking crayon if you choose to dress in an all bright ensemble!

The resurgence of the 90’s keeps on going- this time inspiring collections to incorporate a tied sweater element into garments. I remember tieing a sweater around my waist as a kid and I still occasionally continue that practice but wth flannels and jackets. Therefore, I’m loving the nostalgia this trend brings and the illusion of another garment that is created with this element. The placement of the tie is versatile, but most common at the waistprobably since it’s the most flattering spot. However, Balenciaga chose a different take, by placing their tied element around the shoulders to complete their preppy look. This placement brings another nostalgic memory of country club members wearing their sweaters that way over their polo shirts. Balenciaga’s is definitely not country club preppy ,but in a smart business chic way. Jason Wu, also uses the tied element for a more business/ dressed up look. The tied element around the skirt provides interest to an otherwise very boring pencil skirt silhouette.

Kith, however, goes in the opposite direction from Wu and Balenciaga with a sporty take on the trend. The tied element is used in a sweatshirt dress for a casual sporty chic look. I can see this sweatshirt being worn by Kylie Jenner or Khloe Kardashian in th near future! Jeremy Scott, known for fun and crazy, throws the element into his already crazy look for one more bit of fun and nostalgia. His collaboration with My Little Pony, which comes from the same time frame of the tied sweater trend, further complements the choice to include this element in the silhouette.

The tied element has made it to the streets! The element is mainly in skirts. Above, you can see a more formal look with a skirt, while the other is more casual cool. Either way it looks sophisticated and flattering. The other street look is more of a parisian chic look with a midi dress featuring the tied element. It exudes the ultimate comfortable ,yet polished look.

I can see this trend catching on since it provides volume and interest to any silhouette while still maintaining a flattering form for women. It’s just enough to make any outfit seem polished in a cool way. A perfect choice for any working woman who can find this trend in a dress shirt or skirt. They’ll be sure to be on the best dressed list for their office!

Some celebrities have even donned this element in their silhouettes. Chrissy Tiegen and Kate Bosworth both prove a tied dress is the perfect attire for travel. It’s casual and put together attire, simple, and perfectly acceptable to be spotted in by the papparazzi. Lily James, on the other hand, proves it can also be worn in a more sophisticated setting with her simple and elegant tied waist dress.

Fanny get your pack on! Fanny packs were out in full force on the runway for S/S 18 fashion week. I can’t say I’m surprised since they are another element to complete a look and can be worn a few different ways. Furthermore, if you are like Gucci, and have killer fanny packs/waist belts in your assortment, it only makes sense to show them off. On the runway Gucci used theirs as a waist accessory paired with a formal dress and Rochas took this approach as well. Can’t say I see this combination actually appearing on the red carpet anytime soon since in my mind the fanny pack cheapens the look and is not a formal bag at all to complement any gown. But in theory, it does make sense. No one likes having to carry a clutch around all night so this hands free approach is a nice one! Valentino, also paired their fanny pack with a dress-but a more casual one. Furthermore, the low hip placement of the bag is more realistic and ties into the trend of jeans/pants going away from high waisted to a low

waisted fit. Cividini, complemented their sporty and more utilitarian look by having their fanny pack slung over the shoulder and across the body. This position reminds me of being a tourist in London and having to wear my backpack in front of my body so nothing would get stolen by pick pocketers. Nonetheless, the bag itself, complements the look beautifully with its color palette in a snake print-breaking from the solid elements the look mainly consists of.

The fanny pack has also been in full force on the streets. In the street style images above, again one can see there are a few different ways to wear them. The Gucci fanny pack paired with a trench coat is definitely the most sophisticated way for it to be done, while the low waisted fanny pack is a more festival inspired and casual take. It’s this casual fanny pack style that is expected to be worn by the masses, but mainly for festivals and events.

Personally, the sight of fanny packs makes me cringe. I flash back to my fifth grade school trip when my mom packed me a fanny pack to wear. I wore it one day for practicality, due to the outdoorsy tasks we were doing that day. However, that was it and I promised myself I would not be seen in public wearing one ever again! For that reason, since they have a bad stigma associated with them, I don’t think the trend will last long or truly catch on for everyday wear. They make sense for festivals and other special one day outdoor events, but they are not a fashion forward piece or meant to be one. I applaud Gucci for taking the well known ugly bag and making it more sophisticated, but I think even some people wouldn’t buy their version because it is still a fanny pack.

Celebrities have taken a liking to this trend. Perhaps because the bag is functionable and makes sense for their hectic lives. Kate Bosworth and Kourtney Kardashian use the bag as an accesorry to complete their polished and sophisticated looks. Sofia Richie, on the other hand, uses her fanny pack as a statement piece against her sporty tracksuit. Also making a statement is Rihanna, with her blinged-out fanny pack sticking out against her Canadian tuxedo.

Where to buy: Nordstrom Designer: Rebecca MInkoff $118

Where to buy: Nordstrom Designer: Rag & Bone $455

As I said before, I personally wouln’t follow this trend, but here are my picks for some of the most stylish versions at different price points. On the lower spectrum, Rebecca Minkoff does the waist belt right with a bit of a groovy edge-thanks to the paisley studded print. For a more classic but sleek look, Rag & Bone has a simple fanny pack that gets the job done. But my favorite of them all, is Gucci’s version. This particular Gucci fanny pack pick is inspired from the blinged out Rihanna fanny pack, but they offer simple quilted options as well. Gucci kills the game in the fanny pack department in terms of style-now if only they were more accessible in price!

Sequins shined on the runway this fashion week! Designers made glamorous statements with sparkly sequinned dresses, skirts, suits, you name it! Sequins can come off cheap, but when done right- I’m a fan! Color with sequins makes them more fun and avoids models from looking like walking disco balls. Sequins, as separates such as in Coach’s look above, dresses up a more casual look in a youthful way. Furthermore, mixing it with booties and a leather jacket gives that sparkle some edge. Bottega Venetta and Sachin & Babi provide sequins for more elegant formal looks. Bottega Venetta used large sequins unlike most designers. They were also incorporated in a subtle way by being layered under a shirt dress and in soft hues. This would be for more of the soft romantic girls who are less daring. Each x Other brings a bold sequin suit for the tomboys and more daring girls. It’s a glamorous take on menswear and one I can see on the red carpet for a music awards event.

The streets are also sparkling and in many forms. A sequin skirt provides a glam girly balance to a menswear assymetrical top. I’d wear that skirt with a graphic tee! The gold sequinned jacket provides the ultimate dressed up cool balance to a pair of jeans. It’s a head turning piece of outerwear, and I am always a fan of those types. On a more subtle note is the jeans paired with a sequin shimmering sweater. It has a vintage cool take on the trend and in a not-so-loud kinda way. Perfect for those who aren’t the biggest fans of sparkly things. And to turn it from 0 to 60, the full on sequin set look is the most sparkly and daring look of them all. I mean, if you are going to wear sequins, you might as well go all out! But what I love about this trend is the variety of styling with it. I’ve seen sequins in so many things from converse, jogger pants, handbags, etc. that any person can add as small of a dose of sparkle to their look as they want. There is so much fun and potential with this trend, which is why I

think it is here to stay. Thus, proving that sequins aren’t just for the holiday season or tacky party dresses.

The starlets in Hollywood are adding to their shine with this sequin trend. Nicole Kidman stuns on the red carpet in a sequin silver gown, while Gigi Hadid takes a sexier and bolder gown approach. The bright yellow sequins create for a stand out look, while the color also adds a youthful hint to the piece. Also having a touch of youth is Bella’s sequined bomber jacket paired with a casual knit choker dress and booties. Thus, proving sequins can be done in a more casual way and transforming any everyday outfit from day to night. Blake Lively brings the sporty sophisticated look with a mock basketball jersey sequinned top. This look is my favorite and a slam dunk for this trend.
