BUSINESS FAIR
Melaka’s Glorious Past Melaka’s history began in 1403 with the arrival of Parameswara, an exiled Hindu Prince from the Kingdom of Sri Vijaya in Sumatra. He assumed the title of Raja Iskandar when he embraced Islam and became the first ruler of this new kingdom which marked the early beginnings of the Sultanate of Melaka.
PARTICIPATING ENTREPRENEURS, WHAT TO LOOK FOR
In time, Melaka gained prominence as a vibrant maritime trading centre and coveted by several foreign powers. The Portuguese led by Alfonso d’Albuquerque conquered Melaka in 1511 and colonised it for 130 years. The Dutch then came in 1641 and ruled for 154 years. They were followed by the British in 1824 who rules until the country gained its independence.
The three days trade fair is open to traders and the public. SMEs alongside the big brothers and sisters showcase products and services to establish market presence & awareness, to attract buyers, to produce or transact retail or wholesale, to establish short and long term collaboration as buyer, agent, distributor etc. It is considered to be the essence of the convention and that’s what entrepreneurs are looking for; market penetration, presence, expansion, and avenue to transact in a big way.
Portuguese Square, Melaka
The 1WBC trade fair is divided into THREE broad categories: THREE (3) Bs
This square is also known as ’Mini Lisbon’. Located within the Portuguese Settlement, the square is the centre of Portuguese culture in Melaka and in Malaysia.

The small kampung, or village, around the square is the heart of Melaka’s Eurasian community, descended from marriages that took place between colonial Portuguese and Malays some 400 years ago. There are occasional performances of Portuguese dances and music. There is a bulletin board at the square that lists upcoming cultural events. But even on days when there is no performance, the square is a delightful place to go to for a meal and a drink and view the sunset over the Straits of Melaka.
