STUDY PROJECT: Thesis: Youth Center

THESIS: Youth Center Location: Ladprao District, Bangkok

Bangkok Youth Center

Final project (thesis) was submitted for bachelor’s degree graduation. It was separated into 2 parts of work’s process. First, information’s compilation and research summary; including background and aim of project, area requirements and functional details for design strategies, case studies, site selection. All topics were compiled and chosen by student’s own decision with suggestions from supervisor. Second, design process comprised of human’s habit analysis, conceptual design and architectural design. Every process was checked and recommended by academic professor.

Background and site selection The main research theme of the project speculates on relationship between behavior’s identity of any age and architecture, particularly the identity of adolescent and teenager in Thailand. The project argues for “youth architecture”. Several factors for choosing the site are the location, which is in the neighborhood of academic institutions as well as shopping malls; the lack of youth-related center and the high accessibility. Due to lack of recreational spots for Thai teenagers, therefore they usually spend most of time in department store, shopping mall, internet café, cafeteria and so forth. This project aimed to invent new meeting space for adolescence and teenagers to do recreated activities (by surveying and collecting from sample group).

Design strategies

ACADEMIC WORKS :Thesis: Youth Center

There are 3 main steps of strategies to devise the space; -Opening approach at the front side (connected with general pedestrian and public road) which can be seen outdoor activities inside from far away area. -Separating main architecture to be 2-3 buildings for inventing open space; play area, sport yard. Group of building should be located around vacant spaces, which have been formerly created. Consequently, all available areas would encourage visitors to have far and comprehensive scenery with various types of interesting and attractive activities. -All type of circulations such as ramp, walkway, connecting bridge need to be devised as appropriate, importantly, they should be appeared and located smoothly space to building, space to space and floor to floor, for activating people to walk around and drop in all activities. WALKWAY AND TRANSITION ACTIVITY’S SPACE Viewpoint's DIRECTION VISITOR”S LOCATION VISITOR’S CIRCULATION

ACADEMIC WORKS :Thesis: Youth Center

According to various researches base on teenager’s behavior by many specialists, the definition of these ages would be “the age of freedom and identity’s exploration”. Therefore, teenage architecture should provide space for exploring preferences and interests , so, different kind of transitional space need to be located between function and function. Besides, appearance of the building should represents characteristics of youth; fun, continuity, lively movement, hence, curve line and circle shape were used to devise space as proper, in the same way as building materials such as glossy composite panel, glass wall and canvas were used to reflect modern style for persuading expected visitors (teenagers).

Museum: Art’s attractive point

One of the practical projects during the 4 th year of study at university, the aim of this project was to develop design skills under several complicating conditions in urban areas such as regulations, limited sites, diverse habits of residents and visitors, and the context of community.

Site background and Area identity Historic place

Marketing zone

The condition of this practical design is local museum situating in a compact site of old town zone, where historical evidences such as ancient temple, grand palace are observed. This zone of Bangkok has expressed significance of indigenous characteristics of Thai people for long time. Furthermore, it attracts many global tourists per a year. Therefore, it deserves to be the most suitable site for establishing a local museum. On the other hand, recently, main usage of this area has become commercial zone and night live attractions for natives and foreigners respectively. Nowadays, it is surrounded by dense marketing, tasty food restaurants, nice bars and congested local communities. Certainly, there are a lot of hurry and bustle movement of people by mostly foot travelling all time.

Goal To create attractive and cultural art destination for tourists and local residents. Residences

General people circulation

Analysis and thinking process Due to the lack of interests in artificial aesthetics; art works, architectures and cultural identities of people, despite of fertilities of historical evidences and traditional spirits in the area, design process aims to distract people’s interests from ordinary living to appreciate and consume more art works

Strategy diagram

According to mainly foot travel of people in this area, important factors for building design are ‘circulation and connection’; the primary strategy is creating new sidewalk, which is supposed to be more efficient and attractive. Secondly, inventive pedestrians have to be put inside area of building connected to general pathway. Besides, fascinating viewpoints such as sculptures, art works, paintings that correspond with the old area context will be located to help persuade pedestrians to use new design pathway instead of the previous one. Consequently, movement of visitors who pass along space, walkway and ramp in the building will produce lively atmosphere and animate movement inside the building. Finally, lively transition inside the building will be expressed and more people will be induced through the glass wall, which appear as a big screen of building.

ACADEMIC WORKS : Local Museum

The aim of the building is to represents community’s conspicuous by reflecting outstanding context via massive reflective glass. Besides, it also expresses inside interested movement, hence, building circulation need to be devised as interested, connective, continuous and correspond with outside circulation. Therefore, building image do not appears as remarkable architecture, but it expresses simply and stagnant appearance which hidden itself among ancient architectures with hurry and bustle movement in the area.

Circulation

Outcomes

All of levels are connected by ramps at the front building for expressing movement inside the museum through glass wall, besides; they also link with outside pathway at the outdoor exhibition for inducing general people who walk around the museum. However, visitors who intend to visit museum can use elevators and stairs as well.

Type of people were separated into 6 types as below; - Factory workers - Office staffs Office staff - Maintenance and services Factory worker Guess - guesses Goods supplier Maintenance & service - Goods suppliers

Project description Aisin factory project is the branch of Japanese company in Thailand that manufactures automotive equipments for Japanese cars. There is a quite big project for around 1000 staffs ,consists of various types of one storey buildings, that is, factory building, office building, locker building, entranced gate with guardhouse and outdoor car park with roof shade. Construction period is separated into two parts; phase 2 will be started after 1 year-usage of phase 1. Therefore future space preparation for each building is necessary.

Project design analysis

PARKING

- Thirdly, planned internal road and walkway to conform to circulation assignment. - Fourthly, set up group of building for convenient accessibility and correspond with internal road which have been formerly created. -Finally, provided future space for phase 2 expansion and devising landscape.

Main idea for designing this project as efficiency was not a profound conceptual design; on the other hand, functional compartment and arrangement of positional circulation were the most important mainstream for creating space as appropriate. Second factors that had to be considered were client’s requirements including image of company, style, preference, all of these orders referred to materials, color and building shape, others were functional objective, production’s procedure and staff’s circulation that influenced on lay out planning. FINAL LAYOUT COMPARE TO PRIMARY ZONING

PROFESSIONAL WORKS: AISIN Factory

AISIN Automotive casting project

- Firstly, made site analysis follow general effects which influence on site, including sunshade, wind direction, regulations, approach etc. and then, separating zoning as proper

Goal

Environmental dependence and Material selection Due to environmental objective that try to dependent on natural benefits for atmospheric enhancement, the material specification is one of important factor. Hence, material’s identities as well as OTTV and RTTV results were considered and appropriately selected, besides roof monitor was created to detect natural wind for activating inside ventilation, all of inventions were established to ignore the usage of electronic equipment (air condition and electricity) as possible, Actual work, material’s specification is the important factor for building design, which usually different and varied by several reasons such as local temperature, location, environmental distinction etc. Therefore, material’s identity and the range of OTTV and RTTV need to be considered before selecting as suitable, besides, dimension of material’s installation in the drawings, especially, wall and roof should be drawn as correct and accurate because it influences on inside temperature, heat control and the amount of natural light .

PROFESSIONAL WORKS: AISIN Factory

This project was to respond about sustainability in every aspect, for example, recent building layout was designed to avoid future demolishment and reconstruction for existing building in any development effects, each space are devised as efficient and totally usable.
