A REDEFINING OF SACRED SPACES
Acdemic Project
Year : 2021
Site : 10 Acres
Location : Ivarmadom Cremation, Thrissur, Kerala
The focus and aim is to create a Crematorium with an environment that fosters healing and honors the dead.
To be a positively built space in urban sceneries that provides a proper burial of the dead along with multipurpose utilization of the space.
To Understand and push the boundaries of death care with fresh perspective of how we interact with physical spaces and architecture in bereavement and remembrances.
Using design and architecture to redefine funerary architecture with quality to inspire hope as the present funerary structures fails to provide quality and are mostly abandoned and poorly maintained places, less interesting to visit and inject intense negative impact on mind
Including landscape along with built environment, potential to become the most favored green spaces of the city. To explore the possibility of monumentality of a public building. Such a program provides a unique opportunity for architecture to change the mind set of people through architectural quality of spaces making their experience memorable.
Public spaces are the core of any human settlement and when it comes to urban planning and human settlement, zoning of various public spaces is an integral part to form the matrix of the city.
One public space, very crucial for the metabolism of the city, is the space for the disposal of dead bodies to term in the aspect of city service or the space for the last rites of the deceased to term culturally.
Always kept at the edge of the city, for hygiene purpose, crematoriums in India have always seen neglect in terms of planning, maintenance and acceptance in the urban spatial matrix
The ‘Afterlife’ is the post cremation area where the mourners reaches to heal from the grief. Its that next stage where the soul is reborn after death and
The ‘Old age and death’ are the final walk a human has to take. Its the last stage of life before the death.

The ‘Adulthood’ is depicted as longprocessional pathway shaded with lush green in which the mourners are destined to walk with the dead body.
The passage arrives at a central courtyard which is a Tulsi court. When the mourners reach court it gives an open view of the processional path ahead.
The ‘Birth’ is depicted as a process of birth when a soul is entering into the Crematorium giving dark & light with the shadows of the entry passage
Minimize solar gain
Maximize the daylighting to brightup the interiors.
Openings oriented towards the good views from the river and open land to west.
Project not only attempts to find a valid architecture expression for a crematorium in an urban context but also attempts to eloquently navigate the changing role of religion in modern society.
The research aims to provide insights into how architecture can create meaningful and respectful environments for the final rites, reflecting both cultural reverence and contemporary design principles.
Although connected ritually to Hinduism , the building is secular in nature, open to all, irrespective of all religious belief.
Introducing skylights to increase the daylighting inside
Reducing the openings onto south side to reduce hot wind.
Large openings and views towards the N-W and S-W directions.
Open areas and outdoor activities can be provided to well shaded North side.
A filteration landscape with plants that not only bilogically fiter storm water but with aromatic components that provide a fragrant experience. Also these plants and trees attract urban birds into this biodiverse corridor.
Being a place of grief, the materials to be used must be simple and should guide one to where the focus should be.
The concrete gives a sense of timelesnes.

Social and Community Interaction: Design the campus to encourage more social interaction among students, faculty, and visitors. This includes creating communal spaces, gathering areas, and multipurpose zones that serve educational, recreational, and social functions.
This project seeks to redefine the conventional approach to campus design by integrating ecological sensitivity and innovative architecture. The goal is to create a sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive educational environment that not only meets the functional needs of a college campus but also enhances the natural beauty and ecological health of Vedavyasa Hills.
The large building program is fragmented into a series of volumes interspersed with open landscapes and gardens.
Classroom blocks are placed where they can get maximum amount of sunlight and wind.
The aim of this project is to design a college campus at Vedavyasa Hills in Calicut, a sensitive ecological region characterized by its unique contours and natural features. This project, initiated as a Mini Project during the pandemic before the thesis project, focuses on creating an environmentally conscious and socially vibrant campus that harmonizes with the natural landscape. The key considerations for this project include:
Minimized Non-Point Source Pollution: Reduce the area of impervious surfaces on-site to minimize non-point source pollution, thereby protecting the natural water quality and promoting sustainable drainage solutions.
Integrated Site Design: The design will work with the existing landscape, enhancing the natural beauty and ecological balance of the area.
Environmental Protection: Protect environmentally sensitive areas within the development site.
Open Space and Recreation: Create ample areas for open space and recreational activities. These spaces will foster social interaction and community building, offering students and faculty areas to relax, exercise, and engage in various activities.
The brief is converted into different buiding volumes.
The volumes are snaped to create clear arrivals and connections
All faculties are interconnected via the central plaza

The project entailed transforming a house, originally owned by the client, into a vibrant restobar cafe. The design objective was to embrace and reflect Vietnamese and Cambodian architectural styles, while also creating an inviting and contemporary space for dining and socializing.
The initial challenge was to retain the structural integrity of the house while implementing significant modifications to accommodate the restobar’s functionality. The design solution focused on blending traditional Vietnamese and Cambodian elements with modern aesthetics to create a unique and culturally rich atmosphere.
The outdoor area offers alfresco dining with a view of the landscaped garden, complete with traditional sculptures and water features. This space is designed for both relaxation and social gatherings, with ample seating and shaded areas.
The restobar cafe incorporates sustainable design principles, including natural ventilation through strategically placed windows and doors, reducing the need for air conditioning.
The transformation of the clients house into a restobar café successfully merges Vietnamese and Cambodian architectural styles with modern design elements. The result is a culturally rich and inviting space that offers a unique dining experience, reflecting the heritage and spirit of the region.

The project involved designing a luxurious vacation home facing Juhu Beach, inspired by the fluidity and movement of ocean waves. The design objective was to create a seamless blend between the natural surroundings and the contemporary living space, providing the client, a renowned film director, with a serene yet stylish retreat.
The vacation home features a curved sit-out balcony that mimics the undulating forms of waves, offering panoramic views of the beach. The two-story structure is encased in a concrete finish outer shell, giving it a sleek and modern appearance.
The ground level serves as the main entrance to the house, featuring a spacious parking area and a grand entryway that sets the tone for the home's minimalist aesthetic.
First level has an expansive landscaped area with a swimming pool, designed for relaxation and entertainment. The outdoor space is meticulously crafted to harmonize with the beach setting, giving a very tranquil environment for the client and guests.
The home incorporates sustainable design principles, such as natural ventilation and the use of local materials, to reduce its environmental footprint while enhancing the living experience.
I played a key role in this project, including designing the overall architectural concept, creating detailed 3D models, engaging in client discussions to ensure the design met their vision and preparing comprehensive project documentation.
This home successfully merges contemporary design with natural elements, offering a unique and serene living space that reflects the client's sophisticated taste and appreciation for the coastal environment.

This project involved the design and development of a multifamily residential apartment in Chennai, characterized by an elegant arch-shaped façade. The building comprises a stilt floor plus three additional floors offering a blend of functional living spaces and aesthetic appeal.
The first two levels follow a consistent layout, each accommodating two well-planned residential units. The topmost floor is exclusively occupied by a single, spacious apartment. These floors are designed to maximize space utilization, offering residents ample living areas, bedrooms, and modern amenities. As the architect in charge, I led the design and 3D modeling, managed client consultations, coordinated with consultants and contractors, conducted site visits, and handled project documentation.
