Dear Parishioners,

5

“Will not God see justice done to His chosen who cry to Him? Lk 18:6 Widows in the Bible are usually described as poor and defenseless and are frequently mentioned with orphans because they too lack voice and resources. They are usually perceived as helpless and Scripture often uses the widow and the orphan as the example of the weakest and the ones who need God's and OUR compassion. But this widow breaks the stereotype; she is no shrinking violet, no mute victim. She stands up boldly against the power structure and insists on justice. Why shouldn't she? She must have known that the God of her people stood with her and empowered her to speak. She is an example for those of us gathered at worship today. We are called to be the voice of our compassionate God. We can often feel that in difficult moments God is far away from us and maybe not answering our prayers...a normal reaction in times of stress. Yet the widow is persistent and finally her prayers are answered. Patience, hope and trust are revealed as the mode to embrace. To have patience that all will be answered in God's time. Hope, that are voices are not going unheard by God and trust that He will give what is truly best for us. October is Respect Life month and the Gospel reminds us to stand firm in a proclamation for life - all life: unborn life, the life of the terminally ill, the life of the physically and mentally challenged, the life of the elderly and yes, even the life of a murderer on death row. As many of you know, this past Sunday and Monday our Confirmation Candidates went on retreat as a preparation for Confirmation. It was an awesome experience. The Confirmandi were so unbelievable. I was so impressed with their participation and openness to the person of Jesus in their lives. If you were there, you would have been as proud of them as I was. We had many parents who assisted on our retreat experience. I would like to thank the parent chaperones who spent the night with us assisting in all aspects of our retreat: Jennifer Bello, Wendy Cardali, Laureen Feehan, Adrienne Garland, Tim Morely, Jean Nelson, Michael Purcell, and Pat Warner. There were parents who came at meal time to assist the other parents preparing food Giselle DiMasi, Gina Pisciotta, Claudette Rowell and Ginny Wagner. Special thanks goes to our Confirmation Coordinator, Pat Lizza. We were very blest to have members of our Youth Group join us. Their witness talks, leading many of the activities and their presence added so much to our retreat. My appreciation and gratitude is extended to the Youth Group Members: Heather Arena, Gabby Gartner and Sam Szemerenyi. I want to thank our D.R.E., Karen Croce for all her work in organizing the Confirmandi, volunteers and food preparation. As always my sincere thanks is offered to our Youth Minister, Chris Mandato. His faith and energy makes the retreat the wonderful experience it is. Without the help of so many it would not have been the success it was...so THANK YOU ALL! A reminder that October is the month of the Rosary. Use this powerful prayer form to bring you closer to Jesus through the intercession of Our Lady. In Jesus and Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Fr. Bob
