Portfolio Anshuman Singh | Bachelor of Planning
Philosophy . Objective
I’m Anshuman Singh, an urban planning bachelor student, and this is a selection of my most representative work over the training period. I believe that as urban planners, we should create projects that challenge dogma. It is clear now that there is a new layer emerging of social interation over the changing city. I’m inspired by the increasing demand for human centered design around the re-arrange and re-use principles, as direct social confrontation has become a part of the urban planning process. With experience in urban build form design, planning and architecture I am looking for rethinking urbanity in different ways, in a collaborative design environment.

HUBLI-DHARWAD CITY PLAN Post liberalization, India has witnessed a dramatic economic growth driven by the service and manufacturing sectors. Many city regions are now competing at a global scale and have grown exponentially in size, density and complexity. Unplanned assimilation of the rural into the urban at the urban periphery has left them under provided with amenities and infrastructure. Some cities have tried to address these problems through the existing Master Planning frameworks, but these fall short on many accounts. Master Plans are top down plans prepared for and implemented by municipalities over a 20-year horizon. They are limited to the jurisdiction of the municipality, not very flexible and are mainly used to address issues related to physical planning and land allocation. However, to deal with complex and fast paced growth seen in Indian cities, in addition to Master Plans, municipalities need to develop regional, sectoral and local planning processes that are flexible, open to revision, evidence-based, and participatory. Objective: The Hubli-Dharwad City Plan seeks to address planning issues that are beyond the mandate of the Master Plan. Using such tools as GIS and open, web based data sharing systems, the plan envisions to set up a continuous feedback loop for participatory evidence-based planning. The intent is to produce context specific planning frameworks that can help integrate infrastructure projects into the city, address sectoral needs and produce growth that is inclusive and sustainable. The entire planning process will be viewed through the framework of the “Learning City, an approach which recognizes the need to involve the population along with its formal administration in the process of finding and implementing answers to the highly complex problems of city development. Creating an open, transparent working partnership of this sort between residents, the private sector, non-profits and government agencies will hopefully encourage each to learn, grown and share. This reduces the likelihood of conflict and assures that new issues can be identified and addressed on a regular basis. Tasks Done: Categorized & standardized the attributes of the Surveyed data on GIS platform for Interactive mapping website of the project. Map preparation of the physical, socio-economic & natural features of Hubli-Dharwad on GIS. Designing icons and Deciding contents for the Web-GIS services of the Interactive mapping. Analysis for the Interim Report of the project followed by GIS overlays of various heads.
Rajajinagar Metro station plan, Bangalore & Pune Streetscape Plan Streetscape Plan is a community-based planning process to identify improvements to streets, sidewalks and public spaces in the city. The goal of the Streetscape Plan is to re-imagine streets as vital public spaces that serve the needs and priorities of the community. The outcome will be a system of neighborhood streets with safe and green sidewalks, well-marked crosswalks, widened sidewalks at corners, creative parking arrangements, bike paths and routes, close integration of transit, and roadways that accommodate automobile traffic but encourage appropriate speeds. The Streetscape Plan designs will improve pedestrian safety and comfort, increase the amount of usable public space in the neighborhood, and support environmentally-sustainable stormwater management. Objectives: Both the plans are directed towards a highly connected street pattern with design elements coordinated to provide visual interest, pedestrian amenity, and sense of place improve the desirability of walking and shortens perception of distance. Tasks Done: Drafted Rajajinagar Metro station plan, Bangalore on AutoCAD. Surveyed & Documented Srirampura Metro station, Bangalore (Residential area) for Street Accessibility Plan. Worked on Pune Streetscape Plan, drafted Satara road and surroundings (Phase I & Phase II) on AutoCAD.
