Reviews This is a 3-book set. There are 5 major charactrers-think good guys. They were all fun characters, but there was much uncovered in the way of back story. How did Eli meet his swordsman? How did the Spiritualist and the Ghostdog meet? In some ways I thought the characters could have been fleshed out a little more to help us care for them. The magical system used in the series was a little different from some of the common systems I've seen- well thought out and worked nicely throughout the series. I also felt that the Goddess seemed very
childlike and immature for someone who is supposed to be caring for the whole world. So. Yes, I would reccommend this book to be read. It is a fun storyline. Maybe we'll see the characters surface again in another book? ================================================== The characters are interesting. The system of magic is original. The protagonists are delightfully irreverent. I enjoy the way in which Eli and his band of merry followers prance about their lives. The books in this omnibus read quickly and enjoyably. It is a bit of chase the affable rogue combined with foil the plot of the well connected evil wizard. Each book grow in scope and threat and brings in new characters while deepening our awareness of the powers of the spirits at play.
The main drawbacks are the thin characters and thin explanations for motivation. Perils are not too perilous and everyone is able to get back up and fight again. It is like having endless lives in a video game or watching the movie Run, Lola Run. But the whimsical nature and quick pacing make this an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
