A 19th-century oil-oncanvas reproduction of George
Washington in “The Lansdowne Portrait,” the famous Gilbert Stuart (17551828) painting, the back reading, “Painted by my Brother George H. Woolsey and sent to his Grandfather Joseph Howland from England - EJW ‘45,” in a gilt frame, sold for $2,500. A late 19th-century French Depose Tete Jumeau bisque head doll with jointed composition body, 16 inches tall, the back of the head bearing the red stamp of the maker, realized $2,100. A Victorian-era European miniature bisque doll family of three, all bisque with jointed bodies, glass eyes, and painted facial features, brought $1,500.
Something you don’t commonly see sold, a Minelab Excalibur II Universal underwater metal detector still in the box went for $700. An antique Victorian-era William L. Gilbert No. 4 wall clock sold for $600.

Toy makers included Lehmann, Hess, Bing, Doll, Fernand Martin, Carette, Meccano, Bandai, Yonezawa, Schuco, Lincoln, and Marx.
The session’s expected top lot was a 1920 American preWWI style Samuel Orkin U.S.S. New Mexico toy battleship, the largest one made, a survivor made from pressed steel and wood, 25.25 inches long, in a glass display case ($2,124). But besting that lot was a German WWI Marklin U-Boat Submarine with pressed tin plate, 15.5 inches long and featuring adjustable diving planes ($2,242). Both toys were tested and were working.

OLD PAINTINGSWANTED
American Impressionists, New Hope School artists, PAFA artists, European paintings. 40 still bank, possibly English, ca. 1880-1900, 13 inches tall, maker unknown, the church half octagon shaped with a tile roof, went to a determined bidder for $2,655. Also, a German pre-WWI-era Fleischmann pressed tinplate toy battleship, reading “GERMANY” on the stern, 16.5 inches long, with replaced key, lifeboat and flags, but otherwise excellent, hit $2,124.
A Canadian 1950 pressed steel Lincoln Auto Transporter, 25 inches long, with a nice set of cars (two of them original) with knobby tires, plus a Lincoln Auto Transporter decal, graded 8 out of 10 for condition, achieved $2,006. Also, a Roullet and Decamps pouncing white tiger, (French, ca. 188090), with a material-covered tin body and a key-wind mechanism that causes him to turn his head, slowly crouch and pounce, brought $2,006.
