Come to the country and find antique treasures under the trees and in an historic German Turnverein that has been the center of social activities since 1879. Built to promote physical, spiritual and social life, the Turnverein provided the all male members with a place to practice their sport called Tureining similar to present day chinning the bar. By the 1930’s the practice had ended and the Turnverein became a meeting place on Sundays and hosted social functions such as dances. The 1902 original dance hall is a fine example of construction methods the Germans brought with them from their homeland including a rare arch-type ceiling not typical for structures of this kind and not like others that are still standing. This building could tell us much about the life of the people living along the Fayette and Washington county line. Decendants of the original charter families and members of the community are dedicated to the preservation of this architectural and historic “jewel” so it may continue to serve the community for many years to come. The Turnverein is the perfect setting for La Bahia Antiques Show for dealers and collectors. This year, March 25 to April 2 are the dates for the Show & Sale. Those who are looking for a particular item enjoy a country atmosphere, history, and the aroma of wonderful food cooking in the outside kitchen area, and are interested in seeing an unusual architectural building should make plans to visit the La Bahia Show. La Bahia is located 15 miles west of Brenham, Texas on Hwy. 290 W, 1/4 mile left on Texas 237. The location is only 7 miles from Round Top. Since the neighboring towns are also holding antique shows and sales on these same dates, this area is the place to be.

Roznov Rd. is East of 237 and can be reached by taking Florida Chapel Road South of Round Top or by turning East on Highway 159, Bauer Rd, or FM1291 when coming North from La Grange. On the West side of 237 is Hartfield Rd. which can be reached by going West on FM 1291 when heading North, or by turning right onto Hartfield when headed South from Round Top. Taking these roads to avoid the traffic hassles leaves you more time to shop at the THE OLD DEPOT ANTIQUE & VINTAGE MARKET for the 43rd Antique Show and the 11th Round Top Glass Show. Returning from Winston-Salem, NC is JACK PEACOCK, with the largest selection of rare pieces of elegant glass from companies like Tiffin, Heisey, Cambridge, Fenton and many others, and the largest selection of candelabra in all of Antique Week. All the collector has to do is go to the National Depression Glass Association’s website www.ndga.net, and in the “MENU� area in the upper left corner, click on “Contact us�. On the screen that appears, click on “I would like help with glass identification�, enter your name and email address and attach a photo of the piece you’d like identified. Your inquiry will be forwarded to one of our many volunteers, each of whom specializes in a specific glassware field such as Early American Pattern Glass, Depression Glass, Elegant Glass, etc. Since these are volunteers, please keep in mind that it might take a few days for them to research your glassware and send a response.
