All the collector has to do is go to the National Depression Glass Association’s website www.ndga.net, and in the “MENU” area in the upper left corner, click on “Contact us”. On the screen that appears, click on “I would like help with glass identification”, enter your name and email address and attach a photo of the piece you’d like identified. Your inquiry will be forwarded to one of our many volunteers, each of whom specializes in a specific glassware field such as Early American Pattern Glass, Depression Glass, Elegant Glass, etc. Since these are volunteers, please keep in mind that it might take a few days for them to research your glassware and send a response. Come to the country and find antique treasures under the trees and in an historic German Turnverein that
has been the center of social activities since 1879. Built to promote physical, spiritual and social life, the Turnverein provided the all male members with a place to practice their sport called Tureining similar to present day chinning the bar. By the 1930’s the practice had ended and the Turnverein became a meeting place on Sundays and hosted social functions such as dances. The 1902 original dance hall is a fine example of construction methods the Germans brought with them from their homeland including a rare arch-type ceiling not typical for structures of this kind and not like others that are still standing. This building could tell us much about the life of the people living along the Fayette and Washington county line. Decendants of the original charter families and members of the community are dedicated to the preservation of this architectural and historic “jewel” so it may continue to serve the community for many years to come. The Turnverein is the perfect setting for La Bahia Antiques Show for dealers and collectors. This year, September 26 to October 4 are the dates for the Show & Sale. Some of the dealers will be setting up outside under the beautiful old trees. These dealers will offer quite a variety of merchandise such as Garden Architectural Items, Painted Furniture, Oriental Statues, Advertising, Shabby Chic, Collectibles and Re-purpose Items and Wagons. Inside the hall, Flow Blue, American Primitives, Victorian, English Antiques, American and European Linens, Stoneware, Vintage & Estate Jewelry, Elegant Glass, Silver Sets, Clocks, Vintage Lamps and Toys, Quilts, Folk Art, American Stoneware, Oak Furniture, French Antiques & much more will be offered for sale to many of the eager buyers. Porcelain restoration at the show. Those who are looking for a particular item enjoy a country atmosphere, history, and the aroma of wonderful food cooking in the outside kitchen area, and are interested in seeing an unusual architectural building should make plans to visit the La Bahia Show. La Bahia is located 15 miles west of Brenham, Texas on Hwy. 290 W, 1/4 mile left on Texas 237. The location is only 7 miles from Round Top. Since the neighboring towns are also holding antique shows and sales on these same dates, this area is the place to be.

40th Anniversary Vintage Glass & Antique Show and Sale August 15th, 16th, & 17th The year was 1974. Towering Inferno was a blockbuster hit. Richard Nixon was the first US President to resign from office. Gas was 55 cents a gallon. Average income was $13,900. And the big news of the year – the Houston Glass Club held its first Annual Glass Show! Fast forward to 2014. Celebrating 40 years as one of the premier glass shows in the south, the Houston Glass Club’s Vintage Glass & Antique Show & Sale is still going strong! This year, early Friday afternoon shopping on August 15th begins at 2:00 p.m. at lasts to 7:00 p.m. Collectors have a prime opportunity to shop for their favorite patterns and to explore the hundreds of tables of glass available at the show. There are two more full days of shopping on Saturday August 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday August 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds just south of Houston - in air conditioned comfort! Collecting glass remains one of the top items collected in the world! Every country has its own glass making history and the United States is no exception. The most collected items are those made during the first half of the 20th Century from companies such as Cambridge, Fostoria, Heisey, Tiffin, and Hocking. The colors, different shapes and sizes, and unique items made from glass are what attract buyers and collectors from across the country - and the globe. The Houston Glass Club Show remains one of the top-rated and respected shows in America. It is also one of the largest with some of the nation’s leading glass dealers. Some of the more rare and hard to find pieces are seen at this show. The dealers buy all year with this particular show in mind knowing that the patrons have discriminating tastes and styles and expect both the unusual and the best glassware to be there. Collecting glass can be a fun family hobby. Grandparents, parents and their children all seem to have their own favorite patterns and it is an exciting event for them to come to the show and look for themselves and their family members. For early Christmas shoppers, this show is a must! There is a wonderful general line show in the second building. Attendees get two shows in one! Admission is $10.00 for the Friday early shopping and is good all three days of the show and $6.00 on Saturday (good Sat & Sun) and Sunday, $6.00. Food concessions are also available on site and will be catered by well-known local caterer, Custom Caterers. The food is so delicious that many customers make dining part of the show experience. Also, there is a glass repair booth at the show for any slightly damaged items you would like to have repaired. So, don’t forget on August 15th - 17th to head south to Rosenberg, Texas for the spectacular annual Houston Glass Club’s ‘Vintage Glass & Antique Show and Sale’. Location is the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, just south of Houston. Exit Highway 36 off Highway 59 South, in Rosenberg, Texas. Free parking is available and all buildings are air-conditioned. NDGA National Glass Museum By: Pam Meyer
Less than two years ago the NDGA National Glass Museum opened it’s doors to the public in Wellington, KS at 117 S. Washington. This fulfilled the dream of many National Depression Glass Assoc. members. This dream started with the donation of one piece of glass and quickly grew. By the time the doors opened there were well over twenty thousand pieces just waiting to be displayed for the education and enjoyment of any and all who wished to come visit. During the time between that first piece of glass and the opening, the organization was also accepting glass reference books so that when the museum opened there could be a small library. Today we are so very proud to have a home to share the joy of American made glassware. When you come to visit you will find glassware from the Victorian Era (1800’s) up through Mid-Century Modern. There is Depression Glass, Elegant Depression Glass, EAPG, Carnival, Kitchenware Glass, and 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s glassware. When you come in you will also find a gift shop. There is no charge to come see and learn. The museum relies on the generous donations of the attendees. It has recently come to pass that by working with Crystal Traditions in Tiffin, OH, the NDGA National Glass Museum will be offering for sale a limited (100) and numbered Christmas Ornament. The 2014 Ornament is a beautiful Ruby Red with a lovely ribbon and name of the museum and year etched on it. It is possible these ornaments will be available at the museum sometime in May and can be preordered for $35.00 plus shipping and handling of $8.00.
