All the collector has to do is go to the National Depression Glass Association’s website www.ndga.net, and in the “MENU” area in the upper left corner, click on “Contact us”. On the screen that appears, click on “I would like help with glass identification”, enter your name and email address and attach a photo of the piece you’d like identified. Your inquiry will be forwarded to one of our many volunteers, each of whom specializes in a specific glassware field such as Early American Pattern Glass, Depression Glass, Elegant Glass, etc. Since these are volunteers, please keep in mind that it might take a few days for them to research your glassware and send a response. FOURTH ANNUAL PARIS TEXAS ANTIQUE FAIR “Mommy, I need to go potty!” How often have we heard that as parents, especially, when you are out & about in the downtown without an available bathroom? What has this got to do with antiques? Well, this year our Paris Downtown Association is taking over the hosting of the fabulous Paris Texas Antique Fair! The money raised this year will benefit our new public bathrooms that will be part of the First United Methodist Church parking lot “park” rejuvenation. We are also so excited to announce that this event will be held in the historic Gibraltar Hotel. It hasn’t been open to the public in 30 years! We have 40 covered spaces available inside the gates of the hotel & unlimited space in the park adjacent. This is the event that has been hosted by Two Rivers Antiques for the last 3 years. They have graciously allowed our PDA to take over the annual hosting of the event with the proceeds to benefit a new project each year in our historic downtown. The dates, you ask? October 10th & 11th. We will be having Music on Main the night of the 10th, which is a free concert held on the square in Downtown Paris from 6-8 PM. There will be lots of additional entertainment in and around Paris as well, including free refreshments at many downtown business, who will be open late just for this event! We will be super excited to see you at this stellar event held in beautiful downtown Paris in October!

HOUSTON

Come to the country and find antique treasures under the trees and in an historic German Turnverein that has been the center of social activities since 1879. Built to promote physical, spiritual and social life, the Turnverein provided the all male members with a place to practice their sport called Tureining similar to present day chinning the bar. By the 1930’s the practice had ended and the Turnverein became a meeting place on Sundays and hosted social functions such as dances. The 1902 original dance hall is a fine example of construction methods the Germans brought with them from their homeland including a rare arch-type ceiling not typical for structures of this kind and not like others that are still standing. This building could tell us much about the life of the people living along the Fayette and Washington county line. Decendants of the original charter families and members of the community are dedicated to the preservation of this architectural and historic “jewel” so it may continue to serve the community for many years to come. The Turnverein is the perfect setting for La Bahia Antiques Show for dealers and collectors. This year, September 26 to October 4 are the dates for the Show & Sale. Some of the dealers will be setting up outside under the beautiful old trees. These dealers will offer quite a variety of merchandise such as Garden Architectural Items, Painted Furniture, Oriental Statues, Advertising, Shabby Chic, Collectibles and Re-purpose Items and Wagons. Inside the hall, Flow Blue, American Primitives, Victorian, English Antiques, American and European Linens, Stoneware, Vintage & Estate Jewelry, Elegant Glass, Silver Sets, Clocks, Vintage Lamps and Toys, Quilts, Folk Art, American Stoneware, Oak Furniture, French Antiques & much more will be offered for sale to many of the eager buyers. Porcelain restoration at the show. Those who are looking for a particular item enjoy a country atmosphere, history, and the aroma of wonderful food cooking in the outside kitchen area, and are interested in seeing an unusual architectural building should make plans to visit the La Bahia Show. La Bahia is located 15 miles west of Brenham, Texas on Hwy. 290 W, 1/4 mile left on Texas 237. The location is only 7 miles from Round Top. Since the neighboring towns are also holding antique shows and sales on these same dates, this area is the place to be.

Also returning are DICK TRACY, of Caldwell, Kansas, who brings primitives, petroliana, gas pumps and over 300 pairs of spurs; INDIAN CREEK ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES, of Seguin, Texas, with over 1000 pieces of Sterling Silver, silverplate and stainless flatware to replace your missing pieces or to complete your set; THE FOXE’S DEN, from Edmond, Oklahoma, bringing his usual selection of fishing collectibles, vintage toys and paper collectibles, wooden boxes and trunks; and COUNTRY ANTIQUES of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, will be here again with oak furniture, fishing collectibles, advertising items, old toys, guns, coins and restored metal lawn furniture. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 HILL COUNTRY ART FESTIVAL Artists from throughout the region will gather in Comfort on Sept. 20 to show and sell their works at the Hill Country Art Festival. This fall art show spotlights works of Hill Country artists in a variety of media and celebrates their unique artistic inspirations and talents. Artists will have displays at merchants, bed-and-breakfasts and wineries in Comfort and the surrounding area. A list of artists and their locations will be available at participating sites.
