The mannequins in shop windows show trousers, shirts, dresses, bags, shoes, jewels and trademarks. They look so lifelike: as trendy girls, elegant ladies, business men, athletic boys, fortune-tellers and pregnant women. They project emotion and real life from their stage. On the scene, pedestrians suddenly appear, crossing the street; then parked cars and bicycles; scooters dart past; people are chatting and a woman carries her shopping bag. The stage opens to include the Duomo of Milan, houses and a wall covered with advertising. This dual vision has always intrigued me – Life represented on a stage, while real life is reflected in its windows. In this book I have collected 34 photos, shot during my strolls through cities in Italy and abroad over 2005 and 2006.
