Instructor Cara Fragias taught students about the cultural tradition of ribbon dancing and demonstrated to students how to ribbon dance and guided them through the process. The program, sponsored by the Glen Cove Education Foundation, is part of Principal Francine Santoro’s commitment to expanding arts and cultural education at Gribbin Elementary School. It’s also one of the many programs offered in the district to connect students with diverse cultures through the arts.

Oyster Bay Business Students Attend Regional Conference

Oyster Bay High School’s student entrepreneurs recently took part in Virtual Enterprises International’s 2023 Long Island Regional Conference and Exhibition at LIU Post. Thirty-nine Oyster Bay High School students in grades 10 to 12 participated in the event with their business teacher Alexis Zaino. More than 2,000 students from 80 Long Island schools attended the tradeshow event to showcase their simulated businesses.
Oyster Bay High School students promoted their two innovative companies during the event – Sherbert Pharmaceuticals, a company that sells vitamin infused sherbet for kids, and Solar Seat, a beach chair designed to charge any device at the beach or pool using solar energy. The students created their own trade-floor booths and networked with fellow VE students and corporate volunteers from regional businesses and colleges. Six student-department heads from each business had the opportunity to present their executive summary to four judges as part of several competitions that were held during the day.
In addition, the students were able to “sell” their goods or services using Virtual Enterprises’ unique, virtual banking system during the event. At the end of the tradeshow, participants were awarded for best business plan, best sales pitch, best exhibit booth and more.
Being part of Virtual Enterprises International allows students to gain meaningful career and business experiences. Together with their peers, they not only develop an idea for a company, but manage the dayto-day operations and build their business and entrepreneurial skills along the way. The
Bay High School students look forward to continuing to grow their
