ONE PIECE
WONDER Jump into these styles from Adrianna Papell
I
BY JENNIFER FAUCI
t’s one of the most classic brands in fashion with a sparkle of glamour and sophistication. For the past four decades, Adrianna Papell has been the go-to label for evening gowns and formal wear. Now, jumpsuits are all the rage and they are so much more than the average one piece. “At Adrianna Papell, we strive to create more than a look; we deliver a feeling to make every woman and every moment feel special,” said Jaynee Berkman, president and chief merchandise officer of Adrianna Papell. For almost 40 years, women have worn the designer’s dresses, especially the unique and handcrafted beaded designs that Adrianna Papell is known for. Berkman said that in women’s “most cherished moments as members of bridal parties, as mothers of the bride, or, simply, as the valued guest of any party,” Adrianna Papell continues to set the standard for special events. The brand’s new fashion staple? The stylish and versatile jumpsuit for all ages and sizes. “As jumpsuits and pantsuits continue to take center stage on both the red carpets and political platforms, we provide our customers with a variety of options to choose from,” said Berkman, noting that celebrities and powerful women including Madonna, Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Miley Cyrus have
been expressing their individuality through great pant looks. “Adrianna Papell has always guided our customers to wear clothes that suit them and make them feel more beautiful and confident.” The jumpsuits, available in several styles and colors, combine superlative fit and comfort, but it is their timeless versatility that really makes them stand out. Women can transition from a bridal shower during the day to a wedding guest at night or an office look to a night out in the city for drinks with friends. Modern and playful with classic, clean lines, dress them up or down with jewelry and accessories, making the style possibilities endless. “Adrianna Papell believes in designing a product that is not married to one season, and the jumpsuit is no exception,” said Berkman, who added that those in fashion believe in wearing white all year round. “Soft blues are currently trending and look fresh, but you can never go wrong with classic black or navy for any event. Our one-shoulder jumpsuits have been a big hit but keep your eyes out for our new tuxedo looks as well. Dress up and have fun with it.” To browse the collection and to see other styles from Adrianna Papell, visit adriannapapell.com.

SKIN DEEP
Technology and an effective regimen pave the way for an outward glow BY JENNIFER FAUCI
“Your skin is an organ. It’s part of you and if you treat your skin well, it will treat you well,” said Abigail Trudden, a licensed medical aesthetician and president of Redefyned Skincare, LLC. The Garden City native is doing just that: redefining skincare. Working out of her office at 1101 Stewart Avenue, Suite 102 in Garden City, Trudden utilizes LightStim and MDPen technologies to give her clients the utmost confidence when it comes to their skin.
QA
:Tell me a little bit about yourself.
: I’m a licensed paramedical aesthetician and phlebotomist, which I have been doing for a year now. It’s a really big jump from facials and chemical peels to almost like being a nurse. I wanted to mix healthy skin care with really amazing treatments and therapies that will help people and improve their confidence.
Q A
:How did you get involved in the health and beauty industry?
: I was in college and I didn’t like anything I was doing, but I really enjoyed making people feel good about their physical appearance. I worked as a makeup artist for Clarins, Chanel, MAC and Bobbi Brown and struggled with my own insecurities with very bad acne. I went on Accutane and it was the best thing I could have ever done because it gave me more confidence, so I found that when people feel good on the outside, that improves their confidence on the inside as well.
QA
:How does one go about becoming an aesthetician?
: I spent 600 hours for my aesthetic license and 900 hours for my medical aesthetic license, and during that time, you learn about the field, practice treatments and techniques and hone your skills.
QA
:What are some of your specialty treatments?
: The LightStim is my unique
treatment that utilizes LED light therapy to achieve youthful skin. It heals scars from acne, plumps fine lines and wrinkles and helps with TMJ or anything pain related in your face. It is a soothing and painless technique that can be used on all skin types for a matter of a few minutes per day.
QA
:Tell me about your MDPen, which is another treatment unique to Redefyned Skincare.
: The MDPen is used for micronee-
dling, which is essentially a process that damages the skin in an effective order to get increased circulation. The MDPen is my signature treatment and it is an anti-aging tool that features several tiny needles that both restore and refine the skin to a natural, youthful glow. The rule of thumb is that the pen cannot go deeper than .5 millimeters, however, my pen penetrates the skin three millimeters deep, which can aid in the removal of surgical scars after three to four treatments. However, since I am a phlebotomist, I can go deeper than the 0.5 millimeter rule for this minimally invasive treatment.
Q A:
The LightStim Machine and MDPen are Trudden’s signature treatments.
:What are some of the products you recommend patients use in conjunction with their treatments?
It’s important to start good skincare habits early on. Just wash, tone and moisturize if you want to keep it simple. I really love Indie Lee’s makeup products, especially the cleansers, toners, creams and moisturizers. The Squalane Facial Oil, Co-Q10 toner and Brightening Cleanser are my personal favorite products.

Organic is a lifestyle right now, it is not just a trend.” Among the Organic Wear products are everything from foundation, liquid blush and cleansing oil to lipstick, mascara and brow gel. The line is affordable, with price points designed to provide beauty enthusiasts with high-performing organic products without breaking the bank. Creamy and long-wearing, this lipstick comes in six nature-inspired shades: Buttercup, Spice, Desert Rose, Raspberry Crush, Goji Berry and Sugar Plum. For less intense lip color, but with the same nourishing properties, try the Tinted Lip Treatment. In five natural shades: Tawny Nude, Gingersnap, Tickled Pink, Love Bite and Berry Me, this hydrating balm quickly soothes dry lips while adding just a hint of color.
Skincare
Rejuvenate skin with Physician’s Formula latest skincare launches. Created with ingredients designed to sooth and cool, dry summer skin is in for a treat with these products. For those who love to end the night with a face-pampering mask, try a Multi-Masking Stick ($9.95). These stick masks can be used individually all over the skin, or use each one in areas where
you need each treatment the most. The creamto-clay masks come in three formulas: Pore Refining White Halloysite to absorb oil and tighten skin; Brightening Pink Triple Rose to brighten, boost elasticity and rejuvenate; and RefreshMint Cucumber & Bamboo to cool, hydrate, soothe and refresh. Give your undereye area a wake-up call with the RefreshMint Cucumber & Bamboo Eye De-Puffer Gelée ($14.99). This thin gel glides onto the delicate undereye skin with ease and ingredients like peppermint, bamboo, cucumber, aloe vera and glacial water instantly start working to cool, enrich, calm, soothe and hydrate the area of application. Use the included metal rollerball to massage the product in and deliver an ultra-cooling effect. For a spritz of instant refreshment and skin-boosting properties, pick up the RefreshMint Cucumber & Bamboo Facial Spray ($12.95). Formulated with SPF 20, this perfect-for-on-the-go spray, similar to the eye gelée, contains cucumber, aloe, bamboo shoot, glacial water and peppermint to revive, refresh, sooth and hydrate while also protecting skin against the sun’s harmful rays. At Your Gate Airport delivery app takes off after promising first year BY DYLAN SPILKO
F
or those who fly, getting past security is only half the battle of spending a few hours in an airport. The real dilemma is what and where to eat as you wait for your flight. Multiple airports on the East Coast have introduced a new and growing in-airport delivery service that brings your meals right to your gate as you wait for a flight, eliminating the wandering traveler on a quest for food. “AtYourGate,” has been named one of the ‘Top apps to download in 2019’ by the Today Show and is continuing its expansion into major airports. The user-friendly app enables passengers to order food from select restaurants and other items directly to their gates in airports that have adopted the new delivery app. It’s an easy and convenient solution for all travelers to order food, drinks and even travel accessories while in the airport. Travelers only need to follow three simple steps according to the AtYourGate website: download the AtYourGate app, order your desired items and wait for them to be delivered directly to your gate. It’s that easy. Customers should usually expect the delivery of their food within 20 to 30 minutes of placing their order. Travelers are also provided with real-time updates on the status of their order and there is no minimum order requirement. On top of food, airport shoppers can order a wide variety of items on the app. Customers can place an order for their airport needs ranging from neck pillows to a phone charger, according to the app’s website. The company has delivered more than 5,000 orders and generated more than 15,000 app downloads across Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and JFK International Airport, according to a press release from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. “AtYourGate’s rapid expansion is a testament to its strong partnerships, which have enabled us to offer the best-in-industry app for mobile ordering and delivery in our current network of airports,” said AtYourGate
founder and CEO PJ Mastracchio. AtYourGate is now available at JFK Airport Terminal 7 & 8, Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Portland International Airport, San Diego International Airport and Minneapolis Saint Paul Airport. Founded in 2015 by Mastracchio in Laguna Beach, CA, the CEO created AtYourGate to give passengers easy solutions to the pains of traveling needs. “I traveled extensively for business and was an early adopter of the on-demand economy,” said Mastracchio. “There was a pain point for me. Whether it was an early flight, a tight connection, or an arrival followed by a dash straight to a meeting, I found myself always sacrificing food for work.” After a successful first year, Mastracchio is looking to expand AtYourGate even further into more airports across the United States in the second half of 2019. “We plan on being in 12-15 airports by year’s end and we are also in the process of rolling out our international expansion plan,” said Mastracchio. “In addition to our expansion, AtYourGate users will see some major partnerships and some very cool updates to our app, overall ordering process and passenger experience.” Even with upcoming rapid expansion, AtYourGate will maintain the same goals of quality customer service throughout its development. “We are proud to say that in a little over a year we’ve delivered over 40,000 meals to hungry travelers and airport employees,” said Mastracchio. With thousands of passengers served across the United States, AtYourGate implements a new type of airport delivery service that will look to satisfy their customers for years to come after a booming start. “We are extremely satisfied with our performance to date, but we have so much more work to do. Our goal in year one was to prove that a passenger or employee would download an app, enter their personal information, shop, check out and have food delivered,” Mastracchio said. “Check that box off.”

TOP FIVE ACCESSORIES FOR
LUXURY TRAVEL ou can fly first class, stay at the finest hotels and dine on gourmet meals every day, but the key to luxury travel is really in the details. There are just some accessories and gadgets you wouldn’t want to leave home without on your next well-deserved vacation. Nothing is worse than being unable to concentrate on a noisy airplane, whether your focus is on work or entertainment. Noise-canceling headphones reduce unwanted ambient sounds, such as rowdy kids, background chatter and the loud hum of the airplane itself. Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless headphones II not only give clarity to your music or audiobook, they have the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built in and 20 hours of battery life. Don’t leave for a trip even to a warm climate without a large scarf or wrap. You never know when you’ll get a chill in an airport or a restaurant. A fine wool wrap doubles as a blanket, a makeshift pillow and a suitable accessory to almost any outfit. Wool is lightweight, warm but breathable, soft and low maintenance. Dana Xu sells 96 by 43-inch pashminas on Amazon in a variety of colors and patterns to fit the taste of any jetsetter. Traveling light is traveling smart. In carry-on luggage, you’ll want a timeless design, sturdy construction and turn-on-a-dime maneuverability. Throw in compression technology and a lifetime warranty and you’ll find the Sympatico International Carry-On Expandable Spinner by Briggs & Riley is the ideal companion on journeys to faraway lands. For maximum efficiency,
combine with a nice set of packing cubes. Calpack makes a set of five zippered cubes that help even the most disorganized packer stay organized. The final essential for every traveler is a sleep mask. Disrupting your routine is enough to throw your sleep out of whack. Whether you’re on an airplane or in a hotel, dealing with light sources you can’t control will ruin your shut-eye. Richard Quinn makes a silkblend eye mask in a pretty Cloud Rose print that will transform the setting into instant darkness. The ruched, elasticated strap will stay neatly in place and rolled edges ensure unending comfort.

BENVINGUT A
BARCELONA BY JENNIFER FAUCI
S
o, you have decided to book a trip to beautiful Barcelona. Although Madrid is the capital city, Barcelona is the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, famed for its unique architecture. With so much to do in this walkable city, Barcelona’s history, culture, art and cuisine are at your fingertips, if you know where to begin your tour.
Catedral de Barcelona Pla de la Seu
catedralbcn.org Also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Barcelona Cathedral is an effortless beauty constructed from the 13th to 15th centuries. A prime example of Gothic architecture, the roof is notable for its gargoyles, featuring a wide range of animals, both domestic and mythical. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Eulalia, the co-patron saint of Barcelona, who, according to Catholic tradition, suffered martyrdom during Roman times in the city. Her body is entombed in the cathedral’s crypt.
La Rambla
The most famous street in central Barcelona, treelined La Rambla is perfect for shopping, sightseeing, or taking some time out for coffee and tapas at a local café. The street is dotted with kiosks that sell food, drinks, art, souvenirs and items such as newspapers and postcards. La Rambla stretches for 1.2 kilometers connecting Plaça de Catalunya in the centre with the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell.

Founded in 1820, this pasteleria has been sweetening Barcelona with delicious confections, chocolates, breads, cakes and coffees for decades. Many people recommend bunyols de xocolata, little round pastry balls filled with chocolate cream, but croissants, pasteles, cookies and tortas are all delicious options.
Another famous man in Barcelona was Pablo Ruiz Picasso, a Spanish artist whose love affair with Barcelona lasted until his death in 1973. The museum houses 4,249 of Picasso’s paintings and drawings that make up this impressive collection from his most famous to his lesser known, but equally brilliant works.
Parc de la Ciutadella
Barceloneta Beach
Plaça Reial
As the most distinguished and well-known beach in the city, this seaside oasis is located in the fishing quarter of the same name, Barceloneta, the classic neighborhood by the sea. It is thought to have inspired Miguel de Cervantes as the setting for the fight between Don Quixote and the Knight of the White Moon.
Close to La Rambla, this public square in the Barri Gòtic of Barcelona is a popular local and tourist attraction. On the plaza are a large number of restaurants and some of the city’s most famous nightclubs. Manchego cheese and Jamón Ibérico are popular tapas.
Plaça Reial
St. Josep La Boqueria Rambla, 91
boqueria.barcelona Packed with fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and other local foods, La Boquería is one of the largest and freshest public markets in Barcelona. Visit the website to see a map of the vendor stalls and what they sell, but be sure to get there early, as crowds are quite large around noon. Barcelona’s crown jewel, Iberico ham awaits you as well as fresh cheeses, candied fruit, refreshing fruit juices, empanadas and other high quality market goods.
Palau de la Música Catalana
C/ Palau de la Música, 4-6
palaumusica.cat This stunning concert hall was built by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner between 1905 and 1908 for the Orfeó Català, a choral society founded in 1891. A richly decorated façade includes traditional Spanish and Arabic architecture, blended with red brick and iron, tile mosaics and stained glass. The most visually stunning element is inside the concert hall where visitors can look up and see a rainbow of natural light courtesy of a massive stained glass skylight.
Parc de la Ciutadella Passeig de Picasso, 21
This idyllic and green oasis is located on the northeastern edge of Ciutat Vella and encompasses several attractions on the grounds including the zoo, the Catalan Parliament and the Museu d’Art Modern. Perfect for a morning stroll or to relax during lunch by the fountains, this park is not to be missed.
Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
Palau Nacional, Parc de Montjuïc
museunacional.cat As the national museum of Catalan visual art, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) encompasses one thousand years of art in Barcelona. It is especially notable for its outstanding collection of Romanesque church paintings, and for Catalan art and design from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hang around for sunset where you can see the The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Font màgica de Montjuïc) water show, in
which 3,620 water jets circulate 2,600 liters of water every second in the 3.1 million liter pool, spouting an array of colorful waterfalls timed to musical accompaniments.
El Born
This trendy area of Barcelona is known for its medieval streets, designer boutiques and numerous cafés and bodegas. It is also home to some of the city’s oldest buildings like the Santa María del Mar, or “Sea Cathedral.” And if La Boqeria was too crowded for you, fear not because the Santa Caterina Market will give you that sense of local life you missed as one of the best food markets in Barcelona.
Fútbol Club Barcelona
C. d’Arístides Maillol, 12 When in Europe, take in a football match. When in Barcelona, head to Camp Nou, the home stadium of FC Barcelona and see these athletes engaged in one of the country’s famous sports.

Antoni Gaudí: One Of A Kind The man who epitomized color, creativity and Catalan Modernism Antoni Gaudí (June 25, 1852 – June 10, 1926) was the most famous and admired Spanish architect, known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. His works possess a highly individualized, unique style, most of which are located in Barcelona. As a leading figure of Catalan’s Art Nouveau movement, Gaudí believed in a style that transcended architectural movements. In his early life, Gaudí was inspired by the Oriental movement, which gave way to the neo-Gothic style before being fully influenced by the Gothic Revival. Barcelona is synonymous with his magic, many of which are open to the public.
Sagrada Família (1882-present)
The most famous of all Gaudí’s works, and an iconic monument to Barcelona, Sagrada Familia has been under construction since 1882. Spanish for “Holy Family,” less than one third of the church was completed by the time of Gaudí’s death in 1926. It is scheduled to be completed in 2026, on the 100th anniversary of the archi-

Gaudí utilized an inverted model when designing, suspending strings and weights upside down that gave shape to the cathedral. The most visited monument in Spain, Sagrada Familia was declared a World Heritage Site in 2005.
Casa Vicens (1883–1888)
One of Gaudí’s first major works is also one of his most spectacular creations. Originally built as a residential building for entrepreneur Manuel Vicens, Casa Vicens has served as a private residence ever since. In March 2014, it was purchased by MoraBanc group, which pledged to renovate and open it to the public as a museum. In 2005, Casa Vicens, too became one of the four Gaudí buildings that were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of “Works of Antoni Gaudí.”
Casa Calvet (1898-1900)
The most conventional of Gaudi’s works, Casa Calvet was designed as a two part property for the industrialist Pere Calvet: one part residential and the other part commercial. While it does feature distinctive Gaudí touches, Casa Calvet blends in with other buildings in the area.
Parc Güell
(1900-1914)
One of the most colorful and beautiful spots in Barcelona, a walk through Parc Güell is a walk through a dream. Created for Catalan businessman Eusebi Güell, the Park Güell is one of the most famous and beautiful public parks in the world, even though it is considered incomplete. Originally conceived as part of a housing development in Barcelona, today, the site fea-
tures original Gaudí sculptures, mosaics and various structures. In 1984, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site. Gaudí also built the Güell Pavilions (1884– 87) located within the park.
Palau Güell (1886–1888)
One of Gaudí’s first works and perhaps one of his greatest masterpieces of the late 1880s, Güell Palace was commissioned by one of Gaudí’s greatest admirers—Eusebi Güell, who used the home as his residence for two decades before moving to a house in Parc Güell. In 1984, the palace became one of the first three Gaudí’s works to be declared a World Heritage Site. Located on La Rambla, the palace is known for its innovative conception of space and light as well as its use of stone, wood, wrought iron, pottery and glass.
Also known as La Pedrera or “the stone quarry,” Casa Mila is one of the best examples of the architect’s creativity. Free of load-bearing walls, the structure is open and airy, allowing natural light to flow throughout. A part of the original UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984, the house was built for Pere Mila i Camps and Roser Segimon i Artells. It is now home to the Fundacio Catalunya-La Pedrera.
Casa Batlló (1904-1906)
Also referred to as the “House of Bones,” Casa Batlló wasn’t actually built by Gaudí, but he made it one of the most famous building’s in Barcelona. In 1904, Gaudí was hired by Joseph Batlló to redesign the home. In 1906, Gaudí completed what became one of his most spectacular works: a trendy, eye catching building with colorful and fanciful designs. Much of the façade is decorated with a colorful mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles. Inside, the Noble Floor currently houses a museum that is open to the public. In 2005, Casa Batlló became a part of the extended UNESCO World Heritage Site of “Works of Antoni Gaudí.”

SEASONAL SWITCH UP
How to transition your home from summer to early fall BY JENNIFER FAUCI
oon will come the days when we switch from sipping rosé on the beach to imbibing a cup of cocoa next to a cozy fire. But there is plenty of fun in welcoming a new season and Marilyn Rose of Marilyn Rose Interiors is here to help. Originally an artist before she became an interior designer, Rose gets fulfillment out of exercising her creativity in different spaces, or what she calls, “painting three-dimensionally.” “Designing is a creative endeavor for me, especially when I see a room completed,” she said. “Unless you’re tired of what you have, people don’t really make major changes from season to season, however, switching out decorative items and accessories is the perfect way to warm up or add cooling accents to the home.” If your upholstery is in the neutral family, the obvious choice is to do different pillow colors that reflect the season. For autumn, you’ll want to incorporate burgundy, burnt orange, chartreuse, browns and cocoas, mustard yellow and even some eggplant purple tones. Area rugs are also simple to change and switch out as they can be rolled up and stored until the next season. Draperies, too, are easy to switch out from season to season with different patterns and prints for linens and side panels. “Use sturdier fabrics and textures like velvets and keep the window dressing minimal to let as much natural light in as possible. More people are bringing the outside in, it’s a biophilic design approach,” said Rose of the technique that brings in natural materials to a contemporary or transitional space and can help reduce stress. “Personally, I like to keep things neutral then pop the color into a space to give it excitement. I want your eye to travel to different locations in the room without getting stuck in a
particular space.” As for home décor, swap out seashells for pumpkins and leaves, ditch the driftwood for nutty woods like oak and walnut and freshen up your floral arrangement from peonies, roses and lilies to sunflowers, chrysanthemums, cotton flower and grasses. These seasonal elements are easy and inexpensive to transition and can be found at a local craft or home goods store. If you are in the mood to paint, try complementing your existing wall color with an accent wall or patterned wallpaper. While it is very appealing and pretty, the gray trend can get boring, but creams, beiges and taupes will always be in style.
Pumpkins The symbol of fall, pumpkins don’t have to be orange and decked out with Halloween or harvest sayings. Keep it classy in neutral tones that complement the rest of the décor in your home. Available at TJ Maxx for $9.99 and up.
Floral accents A faux floral centerpiece is a simple way to brighten up any coffee table or shelf. Make your own or get this Dahlia Mum arrangement from Bed Bath & Beyond for $44.99.
Candles Nothing says the scent of fall like a warm candle. Maple, cinnamon, apple and pumpkin are favorites to burn during the cooler weather. Check out the dozens of scents to choose from at Yankee Candle.
Blankets and throws This multi-colored chenille throw has all the colors of autumn to drape over your sofa or chair. Farmhouse Plaid Chenille Throw available for $39.99 at Pier1.
Pillows Throw pillows are one of the easier accessories to switch out and update your furniture, changing the entire style and aesthetic of the space. These pillows from Pier1 range in price from $14 to $30.
