Art Show-Suzanne Posner Now-Aug. 5 (Great Neck Library) Dr. Suzanne Posner is an award winning sculptor and painter. The Great Neck Library will be displaying her artwork throughout the month of July. Visit suzanneposner.art to learn more about Posner and her work.
Pond Ecology with Alley Pond Environmental Center
11 a.m.-11:45 a.m. (Main Library Commuity Room) Through this hands-on educational program, children will learn about the plant and animal life of this complex ecosystem. As they meet some live pond residents, students will discuss food webs, predator/prey relationships and amphibian metamorphosis. This program is for entering grades 3-5 to attend independently. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (Steppingstone Park) The vendors offer selections of local, organic and sustainable foods and items. Enjoy live music and family activities, every week, during the Farmers Market. Hosted by the Great Neck Park District and Deep Roots Farmers Market.
MONDAY, JULY 18
Food Safety
11 a.m.-12 p.m. (Parkville Branch Library Community Room) A critical part of healthy eating is keeping food safe from bacteria. Learn the four basic food safety principles to reduce the risk of foodborne illness-clean, separate, cook and chill. This program is being taught by Connie Zhu, a SNAP-ED Chinese Bilingual Educator with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. The class will be taught in Mandarin.
Making Memories with Film: Hello Mother, Hello Father!
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (Main Library Community Room) Gold Coast Arts presents: Making Memories therough the Arts Making Memories is a series of programs designed for people living with memory loss and their caregivers. Individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to enjoy live musical performances and/or clips of classic films, all accompanied by guided conversation and reminiscence. At this event, enjoy your favorite clips from Gypsy, Mrs. Doubtfire, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Mamma Mia, I Love Lucy and other classics as we compare parenting styles from some of Hollywood’s most memorable mothers and fathers. Birds of Udall’s Pond
2 p.m.-3p.m. (Main Library Community Room) There are more than 30 bird species that call Udall’s Pond home. Join avid birdwatcher and reference librarian, Christy, for a slideshow presentation about the dozens of bird species who live at and near the pond and get some quick bird watching tips. Ocean Life Water Globe Workshop
11 a.m.-12 p.m. (Large Multipurpose Room 34, Main Library) Join us for a fun and colorful Oceans of Possibilities craft. Learn about the ocean and aquatic life. The glitter inside makes the water sparkle and the neon colors inside make the visuals pop! Perfect to display at home, on a desk or in a teen’s room. Presented by Lisa Colon, CREATE Programs.
