We’re always worrying if we’re dead. on the show, but then I heard about a companion show, read the pilot and absolutely loved it,” she said. “I got excited and nervous when I got the role, but I was ecstatic.” On knowing about her character’s shelf life, Mason said she and the rest of the cast don’t even have a clue of how much time they have left.

aster, stronger and scarier. That is how actress Mercedes Mason, who pays Ofelia Salazar, summed up the second season of Fear the Walking Dead. Although the new season premiered on April 10, fans can expect a lot more zombies, as the pace has picked up quite a bit. “We’ve gotten to know our characters and the audience knows us too,” said Mason of the show, which highlights three families that are forced together in a cabin-esque scenario. “Everything is really amped and the drama is escalated this season.” Mason, a native of Sweden, has wanted to be an actress since she was 4-years-old. She remembers donning her mother’s clothes and putting on plays for her family and friends, but also admitted that as a kid, she was very insecure, but always loved to pretend. “I studied psychology and got my bachelor’s, but I wanted to try acting, so I set a deadline for myself. When that was extended by a year, I almost gave up until I somehow booked a role that kept my dream alive, much to my parents’ chagrin of course,” said Mason. “I imagine all actors need some semblance of attention. You’re feeding off the attention you’re getting and I love the idea of stepping into somebody else’s shoes.” Like her costars, Mason was a huge fan of The Walking Dead, and did everything she could to land a role on the hit show. “I bugged my agents to get me

BOOK REVIEW
The Cash Heist That Shook The World
Henry Hill, the organizer of the largest unrecovered cash heist in history, shares the inside story of The Lufthansa Heist: Behind the Six-Million Dollar Cash Haul That Shook the World, co-written with Daniel Simone. Despite Hill’s death in 2012, Simone continued with the book and published it in 2015, in sync with the 25th anniversary of Goodfellas, which is based on Nicholas Pileggi’s book, Wiseguy. On Dec. 11, 1978, the notorious armed robbery of more than $5 million rocked Kennedy Airport. Hill’s account takes readers through the details of the heist and little known facts that baffled law enforcement for more than a decade. Although it’s disclosed that some elements of the story are fictional, some readers have critiqued the book for not being true to the dialogue and dialect of some characters, for instance, why an Irish mobster would regularly dot his dialogue with Italian street slang. Hey, fuggedaboutit, it
could happen. True though, there is a lot of slang peppered throughout the book and I did spend time in the book’s convenient glossary, reviewing some of the terms as they appeared and then finally just took to reading the glossary like it was its own chapter. Still entertaining, but also part of the allure of the Hollywood-sensationalized mob life. Technically, this story is not historical fiction because of the criteria that defines this genre as something that happened at least 50 years ago and usually before the author was alive, but it does straddle the line between fact and fiction and it’s an exciting read, especially to those who are familiar with the characters and storyline of Goodfellas. Unsolved burglaries, homicides and myriad related crimes, all connected to the Lufthansa heist, continue to unravel and have remained at the forefront of public interest for more than 30 years. The late Hill was placed in the Federal Witness Protection Program in 1980, while assisting the feds in cases against top mob associates and organizations.
One of Henry Hill’s mugshots If you can’t get enough of the Goodfellas and Wiseguy stories or you love to read about ’70s-’80s Queens and the criminal underground, this book is for you. Simone has co-written autobiographies and published numerous shorter pieces on prominent figures in film, theater and fiction.

here’s no lack of Mexican eateries on Long Island, but if you’re looking for a place where the tequila flows generously and the food is made fresh, look no further than Besito in Roslyn. Tucked into a strip of stores on Old Northern Boulevard, Besito offers patrons delicious Mexican fare in an elegant and contemporary atmosphere—an intimate, sophisticated ambiance that pairs well with the top-rate food and service. A far cry from the chains and unoriginal eateries littering Long Island, Besito gives classic Mexican dishes a twist, pairing beloved staples with fresh, inventive flavors. Every dish, from guacamole, to tacos, to the beef short ribs and churros, is exquisitely prepared and the restaurant’s commitment to local and fresh ingredients is apparent with each bite. Besito makes great boasts in their tableside guacamole and with good reason. Prepared in a traditional molcajete (the Mexican version of a mortar and pestle), the classic dip is simple yet stands out at Besito for its freshness and flavor. The chunky guacamole is served with warm chips, but also pairs perfectly with the warm

Besito’s cocktails are sure to please.
MEXICO from page 6A and cheesy queso fundido—which combines baked queso Chihuahua, rajas, chorizo, cilantro and white onion. Another popular appetizer option is the crispy, jumbo lump crab cake, which is served with roasted habanero cream sauce, roasted corn salad and queso fresco. If you’re sticking to the classics, you can’t go wrong with the iron skillet tacos. The pastor, which features pineapple, guajillo marinated pork tenderloin and grilled pineapple salsa, is a true standout on the menu, as is the carne asada. If you’re seeking a lighter option, go for the vegetable tacos, which blend organic baby spinach, crimini and button mushrooms, goat cheese, salsa and avocado. Besito’s ability to elevate traditional dishes by
incorporating unconventional ingredients is highlighted with the filete de res al chipotle—filet mignon marinated in Negra Modelo and topped with plantains, which add a sweetness. Plantains also make an appearance on the flavorful enchiladas mixtas—skirt steak and grilled chicken enchiladas with chorizo and guajillo cream salsa. Another signature item on the menu is the decadent budin de mariscos, a tortilla pie of shrimp and jumbo lump crab, spiced tomato salsa, queso Chihuahua, mild poblano cream sauce and pico de gallo. Entrées come with rice and beans, but the tasty elotes de la calle—roasted street corn with queso fresco and chile molido—is the perfect addition to any meal. Besito, which is known as a great Happy Hour option, doesn’t neglect the thirsty either. The signature Besito Patron margarita, with pomegranate and tangerine juice, is a refreshing summer choice and the frozen La Casa Margarita is a favorite among guests. The sangria is also a great choice, as are the tequila flights. End your meal with the creamy tres leches cake, topped with fresh fruit. And if you’re still not stuffed, enjoy the complimentary churros or take them home to keep your Besito buzz going. During the course of each year six racing events occur as part of the Cup’s world series, an updated version of the AC45 raced in the last series. In 2016, the America’s World Series began in Muscat Oman on Feb. 27 and the last event is tentatively scheduled for November in Fukuoka, Japan (with the recent earthquakes in Japan, this event has not been confirmed). The American yacht, which is an AC45 catamaran, was designed specifically for the event by Airbus
and incorporates hyrdrofoiling capabilities. Land Rover designed the British yacht. The race will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8. The World Series uses a high-point scoring system. The six teams will be racing on the Hudson River for the first time since 1912. The teams will compete head-to-head in New York Harbor and the best places to watch the action will be in Battery Park City Esplanade and the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza at 230 Vesey St. All races can be seen off the Battery Park City Esplanade between Pier 25 and The Battery. The event village main stage at Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza will host the Dock-Out Show where fans can cheer on the teams before heading out to the race course, as well as the awards ceremony.
