“N

ot just another ice cream truck.” Never has a company motto been more on the mark than that of Frozen Sin, a roving food truck slinging artisan ice cream sandwiches, mini doughnuts and more, all made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Frozen Sin partners Erica and Stephanie Belk have imaginatively altered the art of truck fare with flavors that are love at first bite. With help from Stephanie’s foodie inspiration, chef Erica, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, makes her own ice cream, chewy cookies (the “bread”) and dynamic fillings. Frozen Sin offers sandwiches—full or half— that rotate often. Treats include the cookie-dough sandwich with pure vanilla ice cream between two frozen slices of cookie dough. The homemade vanilla also stars in the Funfetti sandwich, which mixes crushed homemade donuts in the ice cream with sprinkles baked into the cookie. In Frozen Sin’s must-try “breakfast” sandwich, the Belks dreamed up the perfect excuse to eat ice cream in the morning, sandwiching coffee ice cream with crushed waffles between candied-bacon studded cookies. It is chewy, sweet and salty with a deep richness. Another standout is the creamsicle sandwich. This cool confection marries vanilla with fresh orange zest for a taste straight from childhood. For chocolate lovers, the frozen hot chocolate ice cream sandwich is dotted with marshmallows and served on a chewy brownie cookie. Other ice cream sandwiches include a strawberry shortcake, mint chocolate chip with fresh mint and toasted coconut made with coconut milk for those with a dairy allergy. If Frozen Sin only offered amazing ice cream sandwiches, that would be enough— instead, they also dole out fresh mini doughnuts. The aroma of fresh batches of mini doughnuts is immediate upon walking

Stephanie and Erica Belk (below) are masters of mobile confections with the Frozen Sin truck. up to the truck—an aroma that convinces you it’s fine to eat two, five or 12 of these sweet morsels. Some customers love the doughnuts au natural, bathed in a sugary mixture for a taste reminiscent of carnival fare. But beyond that, Frozen Sin has more than a few surprises in store. Toppings include s’mores with graham cracker dust, chocolate and toasted marshmallows; Girl Scout cookie-inspired toasted coconut with salted vanilla bean caramel and chocolate; and chocolate raspberry with chocolate glaze and raspberry preserve. Fresh this year is the Long Island peach cheesecake doughnut, with fresh cheesecake mousse topped with peach preserves.

And bacon makes another appearance, this time on a doughnut with a salted vanilla bean caramel drizzle. Other gourmet treats include doughnut sundaes, floats, ice cream pints and quiches, as well as vanilla bean lemonade. Find the Frozen Sin truck at the Seaford Farmers Market in the Seaford Rail Road Station parking lot on Saturdays between 7 a.m. and noon, as well as Sundays at the Rockville Centre Farmer’s Market in the railroad parking lot between 7 a.m. and noon. Their products are also found at Thyme On Your Side in Bethpage, Old Westbury Gardens and Krave It in Bayside, Queens. Frozen Sin is available for private events and is found online at www.frozensintruck.com or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/frozensintruck), Instagram and Twitter (@frozensintruck). ollege. It’s a wonderful four (give or take) years of freedom, fun and adventure. It’s a phase of life that’s been captured many times on the big screen, giving students an unrealistic expectation of what to expect come post-grad life and the older generation a chance to reminisce on how their toga parties compared. Here’s a look at some of our favorite college movies, which take us back to those glory days of campus parties, limitless possibilities and making friends that last a lifetime. Animal House (1978)

Fraternities, toga parties, drunken misadventures—Animal House is the quintessential college movie. The film follows the Delta Tau Chi fraternity, a group of lazy college students who have broken just about every rule on campus. They’re also the bane of Dean Vernon Wormer’s existence, and he sets out to do everything he can to get the rabble-rousers expelled. The cult classic not only launched John Belushi’s career, but was also one of the highest grossing movies of its era.

Pitch Perfect (2012)

Live out the a capella dreams you didn’t even know you had with Pitch Perfect, which follows the Barden Bellas as they vie for a spot in the national championships. The movie has become a fan favorite not only because of its sharp, funny writing, but its endearing cast of characters, who are perfectly quotable. Its success garnered the franchise an equally hilarious sequel in 2015, and a third installment is scheduled for 2017.

A

s the summer draws to a close, the greatest tennis players in the world gather at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, to play in the ultimate Grand Slam tennis final—The U.S. Open. The event will be held from Monday, Aug. 29, through Sunday, Sept. 11. The Open, which is played outdoors, draws thousands to see the best talent in the tennis world. The U.S. Open has two sessions daily: a day session beginning at 11 a.m. and an evening session. In the past, inclement weather delayed play; however, with the new retractable roof constructed over Arthur Ashe Stadium, play can continue as scheduled. In addition, a new grandstand was

constructed and a new oyster bar at the back of court 7. What is more exciting is the incredible talent that will play in the stadiums. Fresh off the Olympics in Rio, Juan Martin del Potro has obtained a wild card slot in the U.S. Open. Del Potro won the U.S. Open in 2008; last week he defeated Rafael Nadal at the Olympics to earn the silver medal. The 2013 U.S. Open champ Andy Murray, who secured his place in Olympic history, will also be at the Open as will as five time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovíc. Roger Federer will not be playing this year due to a knee injury. On the women’s side, Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki are considered favorites. Bethanie Mattek-Sands, an American who just returned from Rio

with an Olympic gold in doubles, has won a wild card slot to the main draw. Mattek-Sands is best known for winning the Australian Open in 2015 and the French Open doubles with Lucie Šafárová last year. The USTA also gave main-draw wild cards to Kayla Day, USTA Girls’ 18s national champion and Sofia Kenin, USTA Pro Circuit wild card challenge winner. The U.S. Open draw for all players will be announced on Friday, Aug. 26. Starting the event will be the 21st Annual Arthur Ashe Kids Day, which will bring in platinum hip-hop artist Flo Rida as part of the entertainment. The U.S. Open is the premier event in tennis that you won’t want to miss. Accessible by train, subway, bus or car, visit www.usopen.org for more information.
