PROJECT SCOPE Tasked with adaptively re-using an existing street car maintenance facility into a unique light manufacturing headquarters, this project took direction from the ecclectic array of personalized doors and entryways. The building design incorporates a design studio, workshop, production facility, showroom and office space. The site strategy included reclaiming a portion of an existing parking lot into a public greenspace. A semi-private outdoor walkway was also created to improve pedestrian comfort along a narrow, busy corridor. 2012-2013
SITE Historic Civil War era defense stronghold Castle Pinckney, Shutes Folly Island, Charleston, SC PROJECT SCOPE The final graduate design and research project, this design competition was a year-long study to answer a single decree - Rethink the abandoned early 19th century fort on Shutes Folly Island. Through a minimalistic approach, this project offers simple and clean design solutions to Shute’s Folly Island and Castle Pinckney. The design and concept for the boat exhibition and transportation system is creative and advantageous for the city of Charleston and its visitors. The introduction of the groin walls is a successful preservation strategy, as they allow the island to remain and grow, crucial to protecting the site.
